Sorry to disagree and I know I am in the minority but...I thought the movie was a hot mess! Extremely manipulative, jerky, disjointed and the screenplay was weak af 🥱 Lion actually made Slumdogs(another overrated god-awful movie) look like an all-time classic 😳

Nicole Kidman and the little kid were the only saving grace, their respective performances were heartfelt and touching 👏
Dev Patel on the other was totally mediocre and lifeless! How in the world did he get an Oscar nomination for such a middling performance? 😕 Oh I know why, all thanks to the great Harvey Weinstein The poor kid was robbed I mean...his nomination would have made a lot more sense since he was easily the best performer but meh whatever, it's no use crying over spilled milk.

Now here's hoping Dev will NOT beat Mahershala Ali because that man was just effing brilliant in Moonlight 👏

Sunny was the star of the movie and Dev Patel looked like he hadn't pooped for days. I shamelessly cried my eyes out. Especially at the news in the end.

The real life Saroo looks gay as hell to me though.

mahershala is busy in protesting against trump so he might miss oscar just like bafta. his role was good but i liked lucas role in manchester by the sea out of the 3.

The little kid was the star of the movie tbh, Dev and Nicole were great but Sunny stole the show, he has such a charming infectious smile😳 the kid is so talented.

And yes the ending scene had me crying buckets, even the real life footage of the two moms meeting👍🏼

Not really because Moonlight has huge support. Neither Lion nor Dev created such big waves in USA.
Dev won the BAFTA just because he is British. Ali is still the front runner because he won the Critics Choice and the SAG - both good indicators of an Oscar win. But even if it isn't him, I honestly doubt it'll be Patel, but Michael Shannon, who garnered the same level of critique that All has. Jeff Bridges seems more like a "just glad to be nominated" type of performance and young Lucas Hedges has his entire career ahead of him.

Agree with everything you said. Great analysis. I dont want Mahershala to win for a very okayish performance in a common role. Michael Shanon would be my pick as well.
