Ronit Roy excited to play negative character in Kaabil'

He may have portrayed negative characters before but actor Ronit Roy says he is excited to play a baddie in Hrithik Roshan starrer "Kaabil".

The film, directed by Sanjay Gupta, is produced by Rakesh Roshan and also stars "Vicky Donor" actress Yami Gautam.

There were reports that Hrithik will play the role of a blind man who avenges the death of his girlfriend. While Ronit did not divulge any details, the actor said he is excited to play a negative role along with his brother Rohit.

"I am playing a negative role along with Rohit. I am excited for that. I don't think I am at much liberty to talk about the plot. But besides dealing with us negative people, Hrithik will be dealing with another big negativity which for him is his positivity. That's a very interesting part of the script," Ronit told PTI.

The 50-year-old actor, known for his TV characters like Rishabh Bajaj and Mihir Virani, has previously done negative roles in "Udaan" and "Guddu Rangeela".

Ronit will start shooting "Kaabil" by March-end and is happy to be part of such a big film.

"I am very fond of Hrithik as a human being and an actor. I have known Rakesh ji for many years and he is very fond of me too. It's a great opportunity to work with Hrithik, Film Kraft, Sanjay and be a part of such a big film. In fact my brother is playing my brother in the film too, so I am looking forward."

Ronit will be next seen in the fictional sports-drama "Saat Kadam". Directed by Mohit Kumar Jha, the film also stars "Kai Po Che" actor Amit Sadh and Deeksha Seth.

"It is not entirely a sports film, but sports is a major part of it. There are a lot of love stories in it. The most primary is the relationship between a father and a son,
the second is between them and football and the third is between the family," he said.

The film mainly revolves around the generation gap and the relationship between a father and his son. Ronit, who has earlier played a father in "2 States" said "Saat Kadam" will show him in a different light.

The actor feels even though football is not a popular sport in India, he is happy that other sports are catching up and becoming popular.

"Saat Kadam" is scheduled to release mid-year.

His menacing turn in Kaabil is creating a buzz, but actor Rohit Roy reveals he initially refused to do the upcoming film as he wasn't sure if he could pull-off the negative character. Rohit features in the film as a baddie, who is being chased by Hrithik Roshan's blind character to seek revenge. When director Sanjay Gupta narrated the film to him, Rohit was "blown away with the premise" but was hesitant to sign the film.

"When he narrated me my role, I said no to the film. I said I can't do it, and he was taken aback too. I was worried because in 20 years of my acting career, I've never done this kind of role," Rohit told PTI. "It could have gone either way. It is not only evil but very lecherous. After being here for so many years, then not being able to pull it off would've been bad. It was a matter of confidence."

The 48-year-old actor, however, did come on board later for the project which would feature him alongside his elder brother Ronit Roy. Pointing out that both of them have different working techniques, Rohit said, "Ronit puts in a solid amount of hard work. He researched for the role. He had a tutor who worked with him and prepared for the Marathi twang. I am completely different actor from him. I went to the set blank, only knowing the lines. Hopefully, you'll see it work on the big screen."

The action-thriller features Hrithik as a blind man, who avenges the death of his girlfriend, enacted by Yami Gautam. Rohit says having Hrithik as a co-star was an absolute delight, as the "Bang Bang" actor is selfless and caring. "A lot of credit goes to Hrithik. While filming he made sure my confidence was at another level. Whether it was rehearsing for the fight sequences, doing them, he took extreme care.

"There was a shot where he hits me and I had a dead fall. But there was no crash mat that day. He didn't give the shot unless a crash mat was arranged. He then called for his own and then gave the shot," Rohit adds. Kaabil, produced by Rakesh Roshan, is scheduled to release on January 25.
