Guys, I was planning to introduce Fawad to my mom. She's already watched his work on the big screen with Kapoor and Sons (she rarely watches movies, but I dragged her to the theatre to watch it because it was her kind of film), and she liked it. Back then I was still in the evolving phase of becoming a Fawad fan so I didn't fangirl before her or anything, but I certainly remember her liking his performance/role the most, despite being orthodox and conservative and still not openly embracing the LGBT community (She was a homophobe before, and I tried and converted her, but she's not fully changed her mind, although she was a lot more anti-homosexuals, but she's become more neutral towards them lately). Anyhow, I am drifting away from the topic.. I was just trying to say above that her liking his performance the most despite her reservations about the character's sexuality speaks volumes about FK and is a testament to his talent and charm and good looks.

So back to my original question: I want to introduce her to Fawad, and she's not really the typical TV serial watching Indian woman..she's a South Indian who grew up watching 70s and 80s Bollywood, is a working woman, and enjoys good cinema once in a while. I was thinking I should start with either ZGH or Humsafar first. Have anyone of you shown any of Fawad's shows to your parents? How did they react? Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

Everyone from my mom to aunts to uncles have loved both shows. In general I have seen Indians prefer ZGH to HS maybe due to message and the characterization as HS is a bit typical when it comes to that. But again individual taste. You can safely show them the shows.

My Fawad fever was watched by the side lines in my family for a long time.
I am from a similar background of what you have mentioned on your mom.(south indian, working, grew on Rajesh Khanna, Sanjeev Kumar etc)
She doesn't have the patience to sit through episodes of drama irrespective of languages.

So to give a taste of my fever, I just got her watching Behadd and bingo!, I had hit the bull's eye. :)

It was urban, story of a middle age woman her trials n tribulations. Amma could easily connect with Masooma, Jamal & Maha.

She loved Jamal's easiness & maturity mixture. For some of scenes where Jamal asserts his thoughts with gentle firm ness reminded her of Sanjeev Kumar. Pls dont ask me why!!!. Lol

Now she knows the premise of ZGH...P&P naturalized for sub continent. She loved few scenes...which I keep watching in a loop ;-)

So give a teaser for the litmus test!
All the best on this endeavor :))

Jamal as a character was very rare and bold too. He was a combustion of both maturity and vulnerability. His final confrontation with Maaha, the calmness in his voice and forgiveness in his eyes, a very few actors can emote through eyes that way.
Even if you girls re-watch KPKPBT, you will notice how terrific Fawad was in that show, unfortunately the performance is never talked about, but from the low class dumb Mujju, to a selfish and helpless man, and then the redemption of the character also, everything was written in such a flawed manner but onscreen Fawad makes you root for him at the end.
