Part ONE
A fine morning. Cool breeze seeping through those extra-large window-panes and those warm beams of sunlight were kissing his cheeks. Omkara allowed the freshness of a new day to embrace him. He has a long day ahead; he needs to meet his deadlines. After a moment or two, he approached his cabinet, drew out his working kit and sat on his favourite chair, with his half completed sculpture resting on the table in front of him.
He mere looked at his creation, which is yet to come in its final form.
Hum kacche mitti ko kitne aasaani se apne marzi ke dhaache mein dhaal sakte hai! Kaash zindagi ke manzil ko bhi apne marzi ke dhaache mein dhal sakte...
He ran over his well-experienced slender fingers over the mould to enhance its features.
Ah! The pleasure! His profession was not just his profession; it was his stress-buster. Rudra says that his O is Truth's boyfriend. Ha! Little does he know that his first love is the very soil, he was always attracted to its alluring fragrance, its mere touch always filled him with joy, the fine texture of it...
"Kaash tumhaara yeh passion business ki ore hota! Mujhe zyaada khushi hoti."
Omkara need not have to look up to know who the intruder who broke away his chain of thoughts. The tone of sarcasm was enough for him to know that The Great Tej Singh Oberoi' has taken the efforts to enter the humble' room of his useless' first offspring.
"Passion kise kehte hai, yeh aako kya pata hoga,Mr.Oberoi. Agar iss term ke bare mein jaante toh dusre ki passions ki aapko kadr hoti."
"Mai tumhaari sirf bhalaai chahta hoon. Tumhe aage badhta hua dekhna chahta hoon. Ek baap kya itna bhi haq nahi hota, ki woh apne bete ke future ke bare mein concerned ho, uske futute ko secure karne ki koshish kare?"
Baap!' Beta!' Bhalaai!' Future!' From whom was Omkara hearing these words...
"Aap kabhi mere baap nahi the Mr.Oberoi." Replied Omkara, with as much calmness as he could. "You never cared for your family. Aap ko sirf materialistic duniya se matlab tha. Aur kya kaha aapne? Aap mere future ke liye concerned hai! Aapka concern aur mere future, kya yeh dono same line mein aate hai! Aapne mera bachpan cheen liya , ab mere future ko secure karne ki baat kar rahe hai! Great Mr.Oberoi!"
"Tej Singh Oberoi ko apne sarcasm mat dikhaao, Omkara!" Tej thundered.
"Mere paas tumhare stupid tantrums sunne ka time nahi hai. The real fact is that you are running away from your responsibilities. Tumhe toh andaaza bhi nahi hai apne zimmedaariyon ke baare mein..."
This was the limits; he can't take a lecture on responsibilities from a man who never cared to take responsibilities of his wife, never cared for his children...
"...Dekho Shivaay kitne aage bar gaya hai. He is touching new heights of success every day. Aur Tum! Shivaay ki baat chodho, Just look at Samar Modi, woh toh tumhaara best friend hua karta tha. Right?"
Samar Modi. Samar. The name brought a train of memories in his mind. The memories which were sweet; and bitter.
"Samar...Samar Modi?"
"Yes, Samar Modi. The new emerging businessman. Modis ka naya Chairman, jisne apna position lete hi tehelka macha rakha hai, saare deals aasani se crack kar le raha hai, fresh face hai islilye sabko usme kaafi potential dikh raha hai...Of course, woh abhi Shivaay ke baraabar toh nahi pohuchaa, Shivaay ka position kaafi strong hai, after all, (looking towards Om) he is an Oberoi; a true-blue Oberoi..."
Omkara clearly understood what he was indicating, he knew this man very well.
"...Par Yeh Modis ab Oberois ko takkar dene ki soch rahe hai...The Oberois! Ha! Young age mein successful hone ka yeh matlab nahi ki one can achieve everything. Oberois ko takkar dena is next to impossible. But they have a reason to have such ideas. Oberoi Textiles group ka in-charge Samar Modi jitna efficient nahi hai, Unka toh business base hi textiles ka hai. Shivaay ka bhi is textiles group par direct control nahi hai, Mai uspar yeh zimmedaari bhi nahi de sakta, his platter is already full. Upar se uske shaadi ki taiyaariyan chal rahi hai. Woh itne saare kaam handle nahi kar sakta...
I wish we had one sensible person (again glaring towards Omkara) who could have effectively tackled this situation. Shivaay par bojh kam hota, agar woh bhi business sambhaalta. Meri legacy ko aage le jaata...I would have been so happy."
Yeh aadmi apna fitrat kabhi nahi badal sakta.
"Don't worry Mr.Oberoi. My best wishes are with you. I know that by hook or by crook, you will tackle this small' problem. Sometimes, it's good to face challenges from young talents. Jaha tak baat Shivaay ki hai, toh mujhe apne Bhai par poora vishwaas hai. I can guarantee you that he can handle every situation in an efficient way. After all he is Rudra's Superman and The Great Wall Of Shivaay Singh Oberoi, who will never disappoint The Oberois .
Aur agar mere bhai ko kabhi bhi meri zaroorat paregi; kabhi bhi, toh woh mujhe hamesha apne saath paayega. Main hamesha uske saath rahoonga; usse aage bar jaane ke liye nahi, balki usse woh sab kamyaabi tak le jaane ke liye, jo woh deserve karta hai.
I think aapko aapke saare sawaalon ka jawaab mil gaya hai. Don't waste your precious' time on this good-for-nothing artist."
Tej didn't waste a moment, and left that room. His stubborn son can't be handled that easily. But Tej Singh Oberoi will never give up...he is wondering whether his words had made any impact on that dunderhead' or not...
Not the words, but one name has triggered his soul. Samar Modi...his best friend Samar. How they used to share happy and not-so happy moments! After ShivRu, he was an important part in his life.
But now, everything has changed. His best friend ceases to be his friend. Now he is stranger than a stranger. Everything changed after that one incident, or should I say one simple conversation which escalated into an argument...
"Tu apne family ke saath aise kyun behave kar raha hai, Samar?"
"What did I do?"
"Family is a very precious thing Samar. Very precious. Don't let it go away from you."
"I obey every order of my father. I have my full confidence on my wife. I stay in that mansion. Isse zyaada main kya karu, Om?"
"What about your brother, your Tolu? Tune last Sahir ke saath quality time kab bitaaya? Wait, tu toh usse baat hi nahi karta, time spend karna toh dur ki baat!"
"In sab ke bare mein mujhe baat nahi karni hai Om."
"Par mujhe karni hai. Mujhe isi baare mein baat karni hai. Samar, Tu nahi jaanta Bhaiyyo ka rishta kainaat ka tohfa hota hai; it's a blessing. Agar mere zindagi mein Shivaay aur Rudra nahi hote toh pata nahi mai kya karta..."
"Om, Sabke life mein alag-alag priorities hoti hai."
"I know that very well. Isliye toh mai apne dost ki help kar raha hoon, uske life ke sahi priorities ko pehchanne mein..."
"I know my priorities very well."
"No. You don't. Tu bhatak raha hai mere bhai! Mai tujhe bhatakta hua nahi dekh sakta. And tu apne badi maa aur dadi ko aise kyun treat kar raha?"
"Mai unhe jitni izzat ho sake utni izzat dene ki koshish karta hoon."
"Izzat dene ki koshish? Waah Samar Waah! Jis badi maa ne tujhe itna pyaar diya hai tu unhe izzat dene ki koshish kar raha hai! Jis dadi ne tujhe itna pamper kiya hai, tu unhe izzat dene ki koshishkar raha hai! Kya din aa gaye tere, I am so proud of you."
"Don't talk to me like that!"
"Toh tujhse mai kaise baat karu mai, tu hi bol de. Samar try to understand, rishton ke dhaage kaafi kacche hote hai, agar nahi sambhaala toh tutke bhikher jaate hai. Tum apne family ki importance ko kyun nahi samajh paa rahe ho Samar?"
"Family ki importance! Who are you to teach me the importance of a family, Omkara Singh Oberoi?"
"Samar..."
"Enough of your lectures! Mai aur sun nahi sakta ideal family ke baare mein. Khaas kar usse jiske paas toh ek proper family bhi nahi hai!"
Each those words were like hammer-bangs for Omkara. His voice was lost. The only thing he could do was stare blankly at his friend; who was not acting like one at that moment.
"Kya hua? Meri baatein tujhe chubhi hai. Chubhni bhi chaihiye! Tu hota koun hai mujhe yeh bolne waala ki mujhe apne family ke saath kaise behave karna chahiye? Zara apne giharbaan main jhaako! Look at the state of your family. Tumhaare dad ki na jaane kitne saare mistresses hai! At least mere dad ne toh legally duusri shaadi ki hai,woh bhi mere maa ke guzaar jaane ke baad. Par teri mom toh abhi bhi zinda hai na? Na-Na! Usse zinda rehna thodi na kehte hai, Din-raat toh nashe mein rehti hai, Duniya ka koi khabar nahi...She is more than alive'..."
Omkara couldn't take it anymore. Samar had crossed every limit...
He doesn't want to recall what he did after listening to those treacherous words. He doesn't want to recall that moment. Those flashes can't come across his mind.
The only thing which dawned upon him was that he lost his only true friend, after that incident...
