PLEASE ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE...ONLY FOR THEM
CONTAINS SPOILER..

so after ayan and alezah found out their respective partners cheating..a crying Ayan comes over with Alizeh to stay at her place since he didn't want to be alone..he keeps on crying and crying and when nothing else works..an irritated Alizeh gives a tight slap

now imagine switiching them and ayan doing this to alizeh..would it still remain a light and funny moment? won't we hate ayan for slapping a woman? then why not the same with Alizeh?

Why does she get away so easy and we only find such a scene funny..coz she is woman and it is okay if a woman loses her cool and slaps a man and that not be considered as violence of any sort?

I think it is time such scenes are noted carefully..any form of violence even if in humour is a violence..such scenes give wrong idea to women who may consider it okay to slap a man if she loses a cool where as any sort of physical violence whether by a man or woman is wrong and should not be encouraged..

i know i took it too seriously but i actually thought about it and can't help but say..how sexist is that. Thoughts?

I have this same problem with the daily soaps too...We see members totally losing it when the male lead slaps the female lead but there isn't even a blink of the eye when the reverse happens, intact its justified saying the guy totally deserved it and had it coming...Physical abuse is wrong no matter who does it..Period!

This scene was ok...the most awkward and problematic scene for me was that raat ko sone nahin deta dialogue between Ayan, Taliyar and Saba...yuck...kya tha woh. Do divorced couples, where one is still in love with the other, talk like that?? What liberal, progressive, high society did they belong to for Saba to smile along as though its a big joke🤢
Maybe divorced couples in Bollywood discuss their current sex life in public places like that😕

Tapping is different from slapping...I don't know of any friends who slap each other frequently for fun...😲

I agree.

To answer the why...

A man is physically stronger than a woman, so if a man hits a woman, it is perceived as wrong because the woman is defenseless. But if a woman hits a man, the general perception is that, since he is a man, he can always strike back, so we don't need to sympathize with a man but we need to sympathize with a woman.

I think that slapping scene was another extension of the Bollywood schtick used throughout the movie.

In old BW movies whenever the heroine was hysterical, crying, yelling, trying to commit suicide, the hero would give her a tight slap to bring her to her senses.

KJo wanted to show the gender role reversal in modern times, Ayan's and Alizeh's both their partners have cheated on them, but its Ayan who is sobbing hysterically, going overboard in his OTT heartbreak. 😆

So Alizeh slaps him to bring him to his senses and then demonstrates with that heavy pot how it actually feels to have ur heart broken as opposed to what he was feeling.

CT- Never thought like that before. Perhaps we are conditioned to the physical violence by men and self-defense by women syndrome? !!
GS - Yes those dialogues were bit cringe worthy but I was too busy watching SRK-RK-Ash in one frame.
