Guys I'm watching Oshin, a Japanese drama of the 80's that used to air on doordarshan. It is a very very popular drama all over the world. They have eng subs on YT. Please do watch. It is a very emotional and heart- wrenching drama of a 7 yr old girl that teaches you perserverence. I'm crying my eyes out watching this. 😭
Tells the story of Oshin, a poor little girl who would someday become the owner of a big supermarket chain in Japan.
It has been broadcasted in more than 58 nations including countries such as Singapore, Belgium, Thailand and Iran. The drama itself and the flood of commentary that has followed its release have led to a broader understanding throughout the world of what the real Japan' is!
Oshin', as you probably know, is the depiction of one woman's life from a young girl to when she was eighty-two years old. In 1901, she was born as the third daughter to a farmer in the uppermost section of Yamagata Prefecture's Mogami River. As part of a large family, every day was an intense struggle to feed the family and survive, so at the age of six, Oshin was sent to work as a babysitter for a timber dealer's family in exchange for one bag of rice. From there her life took her down a road of trials and tribulations. A few years of relative happiness would be followed by a terrible loss.

I just came to know about it few months back. Yesterday I decided to watch it randomly. I was blown away. If you don't remember it, you can watch it now after all these years but after finishing spellbinder and the other Australian shows. πŸ˜‰

It aired in my country when I was very little. I vaguely remember my family watching it. So basically I've watched it but I don't remember anything. πŸ˜†
I have heard that it's very sad and depressing. Old and depressing is not a good combo for me. So I am not sure if I'll watch it again.

Yes it is sad but it teaches you to strive against all odds and the end is fruitful. It shows perserverence in adversity.

It was my 1st asian drama ever, used 2 watch it during my childhood as their showed the dubbed version in Sri-Lanka when I was 5 or 6. It was such an emotional ride, old is gold. 😊
Even though I was little, I remember watching it with mom & granny, missing those moments were we watched TV together...😭
Then of course I started with the bascis Hana yori Dango, BOF, You're beautiful & Autumn's concerto.

I got to know of it recently and I just tried the first epi and I was hooked, It sure is an emotional ride but I didn't like how they hit women in the show...they showed the reality though...and apart from a few points here and there like Oshin accepting the doormat treatment, it was a great watch.
