I CAN SEE RIGHT THROUGH YOU
"Nahi, nahi, tum cheating kar rahe ho!"
"Chaachu, mai kyun cheat karunga?"
Kunj narrowed his eyes, studying his nephew. The child looked back at him with wide, innocent eyes.
"Waise bhi, Chaachu, UNO mei mai kaise cheat kar sakta hu?" Ishaan asked, truly wondering how one could cheat in UNO.
Kunj set his Uno cards down and folded his arms, sulking. "Agar tum cheat nahi kar rahe ho, toh tum har game kaise jeet rahe ho?" he asked.
Ishaan shrugged. "Pata nahi."
Kunj looked at him, who blinked at him. "Tum pakka cheating kar rahe ho." He said, frowning.
" Sachi Chaachu maine kuch nahi kiya." he argued.
"Achha, baba, theek hai. Hum ek aur game khelte hai, ok?"
Ishaan brightened. "Theek hai!"
"Kunj!" Twinkle called out, wondering where her husband had gotten to. He was supposed to help with the Lohri decorations, but he was nowhere to be found. She sighed, annoyed. "KUNJ!"
"Dekho, tum phir se cheating kar rahe ho!"
Twinkle stopped just outside Ishaan's room, frowning. Was that Kunj she heard? She backtracked, peering into their room. She rolled her eyes.
Kunj sat on Ishaan's bed, along with Ishaan. Both of them had black and white Uno cards in front of them, and there was a little pile of cards in the centre of the bed as well.
It was what she heard that had Twinkle rolling her eyes: Kunj, convinced that Ishaan was cheating at Uno, was not listening to the child's desperate reassurances that he was in fact not cheating. The kid was giggling at his Chaachu's childish behaviour, and Twinkle really didn't blame Ishaan.
She entered the room and gently pulled Kunj's ear.
"Ah! Twinkle, ye tum kya kar rahi ho?" he cried, standing up, leaving his Uno cards on the bed.
"Kisne kaha tha ki Lohri ke decorations upar chod de?" she asked.
"Maine!" Kunj replied, not liking where this was going. "Please mera kaan chod do!"
"Kya tum jaante ho ki Lohri ki celebrations kuch hi der mei hone waale hai? Aur tumne decorations ab tak nahi lagaye!" She tugged a little harder on his ear, causing him to wince and cry out in pain. (Ishaan giggled; somehow, he enjoyed seeing his Chaachu get into trouble with his Chaachi.)
"Sorry, Twinkle! Mai abhi lagata hu!" Kunj pleaded. "Bas mera kaan chod lo!"
"Apart from that, you're accusing a little child of cheating in UNO?" she added, tugging a little harder on his ear again. She couldn't remember having had this much fun in quite a while.
"I'm sorry, na!" Kunj apologized, desperate. His ear was hurting quite a bit.
"Ishaan ko sorry bolo," Twinkle instructed, failing to keep a smile off her face.
"I'm sorry Ishaan. Maaf kar de buddy?" Kunj asked him.
Ishaan looked at Kunj, then at Twinkle, who raised an eyebrow, silently asking him whether she had punished his Chaachu enough. He grinned and nodded, and Twinkle let go of Kunj's ear.
Kunj sighed in relief, rubbing his tomato-red ear. "Finally!" he muttered. He glared darkly at Twinkle, who grinned back cheekily.
"Ab chalo, decorations lagane hai!" she said.
Kunj left the room, muttering under his breath and still rubbing his ear.
Twinkle looked Ishaan.
"Thank you, Chaachi!" he gleamed.
The two of them burst into giggles.
