Today we saw sacred thread is being tied for the grooms and brides so that the marriage happens without any issues. Even in our community this thread ceremony is there, but it happens 10 days before the wedding with a Ganesh Pooja.
Though it is said that the sacred thread is tied to ward of evil eye for the couple as a rational person what I have felt is that, the bride and groom will be the centre of attention for the wedding day. And more lavish the wedding is, more matched the couple are, there will be many comments passing around like look at the saree, look at the jewellery, she got such a groom, he got such a bride, look at the decoration etc etc and many of these comments are not said with good thoughts. A lot of it will have jealousy tinged in it and will be waiting for an opportunity to find some fault, some bad omen to point out , then show fake sympathy but have glee inside.
And I feel the bad thoughts affects us one way or the other. And the sacred thread on which pooja is done with appropriate mantras protects the couple from such bad thoughts on their special day. Because mantras if told correctly with pure mind has the power and actually the sacred thread is thus equipped with power to ward off the effect of all negative thoughts that are directed at the couple
