In the trailer, I did not like Tabu's characterization and even how she was playing it. It was rather surprising to me. But to be fair, it is mostly me and my idea because I have read the book and have an idea of Miss, Havisham in my head. I have seen other versions, loved some, loathed others. Loved Anne Bancroft in the Gwyneth version and Helena Bonham Carter, but not Gillian Anderson. Many who play Miss. Havisham have been polarizing and I think it has to do as much to do with them as the people watching unlike most characters in a film for many have an idea of who Miss. Havisham is which is not necessarily what the script or the actor's interpretation or the version the director wants us to see. So Tabu's reviews may not necessarily be only her.

just moi -i can tell how the actors and the movie looks...and so can everyone who saw the trailor!

Tabu is such a seasoned actress, she would hv to be very very bad to be bad, you know?how can a miss havisham character, a woman twisted by a love gone wrong and seeking revenge get the better of her? it snot like she is playing an ape like in Planet of the Apes and got her ape walk wrong.😕

now not only is the budget 75crores a huge leap of 25crore (presumably for cost of colouring Katrinas chinar red hair and Adityas gym classes) but only Fitoor depends on good critic acclaim..i suppose now this new ID wala or should i say, MID wil now go and write a review also commenting on katrinas hair and Adityas body and tabu ...hawww she acted baaad

The character of Miss. Havisham to me is more than a character twisted by love gone wrong. She is consumed by it, bitter, revengeful, eccentric, it has even affected her mind. The woman wears her wedding dress, she looks creepy. Have you seen the Gillian Anderson version of Miss, Havisham ? She was not able to portray any of it and her voice and the diction was the most annoying part in it for she changed it to play someone older and it came across as forced and artificial to me. Her voice and diction has never annoyed me before or since. Helena Bonham Carter was able to successfully play Miss. Havisham for me. I saw the Gillian Anderson version of it in Tabu's performance even in the trailer and if it is what it is in the movie, I can get why some of the reviews are negative. Again, it is an interpretation of Miss. Havisham, an Indian interpretation so everyone will have an idea so it is not Tabu's fault if her interpretation does not match the picture in a person's head.

Bollywoodlife review

Fitoor quick movie review: Tabu STEALS the show while Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif impress with their PASSIONATE performances!!!
Fitoor starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina kaif is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' famous novel Great Expectations. Will Abhishek Kapoor manage to do justice to the same, where Hollywood had failed?

Here's how the passionate love story impressed us...in the first half itself!
Fitoor, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif and directed by Kai Po Che fame Abhishek Kapoor is one of the big releases of the week, others being Sanam Re and the Hollywood flick, Deadpool. Our critic, Tushar Joshi, has caught up an early screening of the film and here's what he has to say about the first half...

"Abhishek Kapoor's desi adaptation of Great Expectations is a work of art. The canvas of the film is the breathtakingly beautiful Kashmir. You are spell-bound and can't take your eyes off from the first frame itself. Easily one of the best looking films of the recent past, Fitoor works it's magic that works beautifully in its own pace. You can't rush through this story of love and loss. The first half starts with a young Noor (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Firdaus (Katrina Kaif), introducing us to their lives and setting the pace of what's to happen. We know it's a love story, if you have read the book you know that Tabu's character who plays the Begum is the most interesting of them. Once the track fast forwards, we get to know that fate has different plans for Firdaus and Noor. Performances are top notch. Katrina Kaif brings Firdaus alive with ease. The red hair and the styling only adds to the drama. I am intrigued as to where her character will go in second half. Aditya is a perfect cast as the brooding and passionate Noor. But it's Tabu who steals every scene with her magnetic appeal. You will forget the drama surrounding Rekha and her casting. Tabu should start rehearsing her acceptance speech at all award shows next year. Noor and Firdaus have a passionate love making scene in the first half that paints the film with dark hues of red. Let's see where the second half takes the plot, if you are patient with the pace then Fitoor is a definite treat for you."

Director Abhishek Kapoor has finally succeeded at something that no filmmaker has managed to so far: cast Aditya Roy Kapoor without alcohol. The only time when he drinks in the movie, he spews some delicious, delirious lines like, "Doodh mangoge, kheer denge...Kashmir mangoge, cheer denge." I understand it's a famous slogan, but this Mother Dairy of a line comes without any political context.

whats alcohol got to do with Fitoor?and mother dairy?😕 why already the condescending tone at the beginning of the review.

Remember the last time when chinar leaves fluttered around a sweater-wearing, violin-playing SRK, we witnessed a grumpy, bearded Amitabh Bachchan, the prettiest Hindi movie ghost in Aishwarya and the debut of Uday Chopra's abs.

why is he wasting so many lines on another film!?

Fitoor is about Noor (Aditya-I-am-not-drinking-in-this-film-Roy-Kapoor) who loves a porcelain vase called Firdaus (Katrina-now-available-in-expensive-red-hair-Kaif). But matriarch of a mamma Begum Hazrat (Tabu) ain't very happy with this relationship. After all, shaadis should happen in the same class and jazz. Mamma sends the vase of a daughter to London because hey, that's the only way to justify Katrina's accent.

Again the condescension and fixation on the colour of Kats hair...!! and reference to Adis nondrinking (wasthe writer of this review drinking?)😆

There is never a simple, straight answer for any question. Since we have Kashmir in the background, there is a lot ofdaraktein, yaadein, jannat, qayamat for a simple 'How are you?' The impending hot scene between the lead couple has a tiresome foreplay about 'Mujhe qaid kar liya, riha toh sirf maut hi kar sakti hain ya phir ishq' and you are like, 'Dude, cut the chase and just do it!' They don't. It's edited out. Ouch!!

and these are the negatives? in kashmir they are supposed to say what...hi hello howdy etc?
the reviewer is disappointed because they didnt show the actual lovemakng😆?

But don't get me wrong. The dialogues are poetic, have a context, alas, delivered so badly that they lose impact.

not for us, they didnt..i remember posters going crazy over Tabus scenes and dialogues, kindly tell me again, that this reviewer is reviewing the same film? Adityas scenes and dialogues too were NOT atrocious as it is being made out to be...exaggeration seems like.. to what end i dont know...we will see

Fitoor means obsession. And the lead pair transforms that obsession so beautifully on the big screen: the obsession with well-toned bodies, coloured hair, fancy clothes and shoes. I mean so what if we can't feel their pain, their agony, their joys, so what if it's a pretentious love story, at least their abs are real.

again the obsession with the lead pairs looks, (like they can help being beautiful😆) already i havent agreed on Tabus scenes or acting with this reviewer so...it makes sense to withhold my judgement on this

Aditya Roy Kapoor has a couple of moments where he shows some interest, if not promise. Katrina Kaif is cast in the movie to play the character of Estella who is curt, indifferent and a tease in Dicken's Great Expectations, but she even fails to swing that curtness that comes naturally to her. The girl who plays the young Firdaus has acted better.

Nah...we hv seen her in the promos,,,she has nailed the aloof cold Estella particularly well, she didnt hv to act anyway..she is not naturally introverted, a little aloof..with those she doesnt know..
as for Aditya, some grudging acknowledgement of his acting..why so stingy, re?

Or wait. Even her painting that Noor makes has better expressions.

and with this line alone, the reviewers bias is laid bare for everyone to see...how can a painting hv more expressions ...

the review means to me ...

a big fat zero.

lets see how they review sanam re...i know its being made by money bags Divya Khoslas music baron hubby and his reach is far and wide...but still...it feels like reviewers are being paid to write bull shit about Fitoor...

i mean all the detailed reviews are garbage...and dont make sense at all!

here he does not make sense

This guy is a wannabe reviewer, not his first time . He usually trashes the movies from actors he does not like & Katrina Kaif is one of them😆.
Sonam said this & was ripped to shreds, but most of the Bwood critics really could use some time in critic school. Iam not surprised at the overtly negative reviews. They judge movies according to their personal tastes, yet they want to be taken seriously😆😆

Hmm. So far the few reviews are exactly what I was thinking...minus Tabu though. Breathtaking frames, great detailing, technical aspects are fabulous...but alas the acting doesn't come together, especially Katrina's.
Late screening for a 'critical' film also...Kai Po Che screened on a Monday for critics before it released on Friday. I have much lower expectations.

Will wait for more reviews.

Sucharita Tyagi @Su4ita

Okay sooo, #Fitoor kinda unravels in the second half. Slightly more draggy, disjointed. Thoda matlab boring. Lekin thoda only.

Sucharita Tyagi @Su4ita

Aditya Roy Kapoor really has brought his A GAME tho. And Tabu, my goodness, how could I love and hate a character simultaneously? #Fitoor
