The Road Most Taken

the most talked about road in Bangalore...the Hosur Road

A constant in my life since June 1990

The road that seems evolving every day

A serpentine winding tree lined road

Made way for a flurry of activity

Some 490 century old ficus were felled

What a relief when the road is made we felt

The city had by then boomed and swelled

The Electronic city was an idea governments sought to sell

Flower patches of varied hues vanished

Monstrous glass cages emerged

Brick and tile factories became malls and showrooms

Water bodies became institutions and convention halls

Bourgeoning populace clamored for space for themselves and cars

Inching vehicles necessitated an elevated road

A God send I sighed a little too prematurely

An OBU made way for RFID

The steering at times causes insanity I guess

Speed is the super power, flouting rules the norm

Expletives and air horns empower the maniac drivers

The road no longer picturesque or slow

I can time myself and beat the rush

My body senses the route i take

Is programmed to fall asleep and when to awake

I would prefer the bumpy ride that broke my back

If with it i can get back all that has vanished
