Akka was in the kitchen when II entered Munirka
Paati was watching sun TV, LOUDDLY she smiled happily
"Va va va... podisugal edayum kootindu varaliyo?" (did u bring the lil peanuts?)
II smiled when she was reminded of her love
"Ille paati... innum jet lag, thatha appa duty" (they are still jet lagged from Paris trip in summer)
Paati patted the seat and as she sat hugged her
"Apdiye irukke dee nee" (u look exactly like u were before)
"No paatti, naraya kozhuthachu" (I am too fat) II smiled
"vandu upma pannirka, eduthukko" (go get some )
II wondered if patti even knew...
Akka stepped out to grab something from the frig and turned
"Nee epoo vandey?" (when did u arrive?) she asked deflated
"Two mins" II smiled walking over
There was a picnic basket of sorts, that traveled between MM and Munirka, with treats, II filled it up with Mavvy's help
He was very perceptive, when he realized she was going, he would pack it all up including Vandu's containers
R&B had followed her down this morning, as she filled up the basket with macaroons and cookies and jellies and preseves from Corsica
She placed a couple jara she had bought for "MM" she was sad, she wanted to cheer up Munirka she was being extra generous
R&B summoned Mavvy to load it in the car
"Akka woh multi shtori dabba hai" (tiffin carrier) when she sent food two nights ago when II returned from Paris
"woh baad mein le jaoongi" II was disheartened
"Can I drive u?" he asked softly
She shook her head
"Amma, wont u come to shoot hoops?" Nivi asked
The boys were in the theatre watching a movie, they had blown her directive of doing Math on the computer for half hour
Ranjan and Sahana still snoozed on the Louis settee
"I can drive, its so close by" II explained "Munirka" she said preoccupied
"U shud go shoot some hoops and promise to score more than Daddee" II raised her hand for high five
Nivi smiled shyly "He is so tall Amma"
"U are too" II hugged her, crushed her basically
"Dont let Ved eat too much custard" she whispered in Nivi's ear
"He wont listen" "he will shout banging his spoon CUSDERS CUSDERS" Nivi laughed
R&B smiled at Nivi's mimicry
"U are the goodest of them all" she kissed her cheek
Nivi was sad to see a sad amma leave them
The guard paused her to say something she looked confused
R&B walked up
"Hum kahe Amma Tamil qitaab dene aayi nahi" the guard was sheepish
"Is hafte classes zyaada hai" R&B explained
The entire house waited for a Iyer interaction it looked like...
II was too proccupied to think abt Tamil mags
Akka looked at the basket II set on the dining table
"edukku dee" Akka scolded
"I just got junk food" II lied
She also let Akka look at the French silk scarves and silver necklace II had got for her
"Where is Shravu?" II asked
akka didnt respond
"Athim?"
"What is this dee, are u taking a roll call" Akka was frustrated
She saw Shravu in the room he shared with Shubhang
Shubhang was missing
A thought occured to her
If Akka cud send Shubhang to shoot hoops with R&B and Nivi
SHE WONT
NANDU'S FRIENDSHIP HAS LANDED SHRAVU IN JAIL
U THINK SHE WUD BE THRILLED TO LET SHUBHANG HANG WITH NIVI?

she loved macaroons she cheated she didnt care if they contained eggs, she ate because they were soft
Her face lit up when she saw a box of range macaroons
Akka handed the box lifelessly
II walked into Shravu's room
He was on the balcony converted into a study area, on the Mac Book pro II had gifted him this Bday
He turned and said "Chithi"
He was a handsome boy, not very tall, wearing glasses, with a deep voice like Athim
"What are u upto?" she asked
"Choosing electives, changing electives" he said casually
"Which one? " Ii tried to keep it off topic at first
"I had Business Communication at first, now I am choosing Technology in Asia" he said
He was a good student, otherwise why would BITS recruit him
II sat on the bed
The room was ina disarray
Just like boys' rooms
Shubhangs' corner was a mess
The apartment smelled like how it did 15 or 19 years ago
"When do u leave for college?" she asked as if she didnt know
"I have another two weeks" he said
Shravu tried to not look her in the eye.
II was unwilling to budge
She leaned on the headboard
"Shravu" she called
He exhaled and pushed the chair back
And stood up
"Yenn da?" II asked softly
He sat by her his head hung
Vandu darted glances inside, her eyes were moist too
Paati walked in
"Chithi France lendu onakku pidicha cake vangindu vandrika" (she got u ur fave cake)
Paati had lost most of her teeth, her speech was slurred
"I am not hungry paati" he spoke dismissively
"Shravu" II scolded sternly
Shravu was being impudent
Paati had a sad expression
"Vayasu kolaru" (the volatility of teenage) said the wise woman, as she waddled out weakly from the room
II was angry now
"Were u drunk?" she hissed angrily
"NOT DRUNK" Shravu was defiant
"AVANODA car edukku ottine?" (why did u drive his car?) Ii was merciless
"Have u never driven a friend's car?" Shravu was argumentative
"NOPE... NOT while I was drunk, Not returning from a pub. D II Thatha wud not let me stay out past 10 PM" II spat at him angrily
"Its not the same time" Shravu was smug, as he shrugged
"True, you are so "cool" being drunk, driving something that doesnt belong to u AND crashing it" II was unapologetic
"Chithi I didnt purposefully crash it" he screamed
Standing up
Vandu rushed to the door way
