What stole it for me were the moments after. As the girls are cocooned in the warmth of appreciation from their parents, one of them stands dejected as she feels left out; Shrutakirti. Sita observes this and hugs her sister, insisting that she was the best of all. Compassion being her foremost quality, Sita is the first one to notice the distress and is the first to comfort and praise her. At that age itself, we can see how the feelings of her loved ones matter a lot to her when she goes out of her way to do this. King Janak notices this too and emulates his Janaki and hugs the little one, pride etched in every angle of his face.
When he tells his daughter how felt as if he was seeing the Goddess Herself in her, she tells him 'Main devi hi tho hoon' King Janak is spellbound but Sita amends 'Don't we have the Lord in us ?' 'Haven't you brought us up always believing that the Lord resided in us ?' We can see the wisdom behind her words as the child renders him speechless once again.
Today's episode also gives the first glimpse into the nightmares that have been plaguing King Dashrath over and over again leading to the constant fear and worry for his sons' safety especially Ram's. As we know, the King had inadvertently been the reason for a woodsman's death and his bereaved parents curse the king for their loss by intoning that he would feel the same hurt, the same pain they felt when he would be separated from his sons one day. Dashrath could have dismissed this over the years, thinking it to be words of anger spoken in grief but he doesn't. Why ? Because he holds himself responsible for the folly of his actions, his haste had caused. He goes over the same words feverishly, somehow wanting to escape from their confines but his conscience refuses and fear clutches hold, like a noose around the neck.
When he reaches the Gurukul, the first thing Guru Vashishth tells him is that love isn't selfish. It is selfless, all giving and differentiates between desire and love, the thin line that separates the two. This selfless all giving love is what defines Sita and the clear example for this was when she goes to comfort her sister, putting her feelings before her own. The Guru however realizes the reason for Dashrath's untimely arrival when Dashrath reveals his nightmares to him...
Vachan. A promise. One's word to another. This is what the King gives as he promises never to come here again to see his sons except for this one time. Guru Vashisth, the all knowing admonishes him to not carelessly give his word just like that for one day this very same thing may fall into trouble. These words resonated in me as we know what is to come. This is a lesson for us again, to not give empty promises. To not give your word in a moment of fervor.
Dashrath sees his sons in the sword fight and is filled with pride by seeing the valour, the courage and determination that glows in Ram's face as he goes singlehandedly to fight in the mock duel. Singlehandedly you might say but we can see the support system that he has in the form of Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughan. His right hand, his force, his everything lays in his brothers and their army like formation is an ode to this statement. Ram and his brothers are one.
