WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

Devasena asked for god knows how many number of times. But each time Amarendra just smiled his answer. She wanted to smack him! How many woman think to do that to their husbands she had no idea. But she had idea about what all she wanted to do to her husband, her stubborn as mule, bull headed, zipped up husband! But she could do nothing. Not because anything to do with respect, but with space. She was tightly arrested by Amarendra's body and his Stallion, Bhasha! Now she was truly irritated.

Devasena: Amarendra! Akhiri ga adugutuna! Tell me where are we going?! Else..

Amarendra looked down at his wife with his lips quirking in a smirk.

Amarendra: Why? scared to travel with me, my catty?

She hit his chest with back of her shoulders making him chuckle.

Devasena: If I am scared, do you think I will be going along with you on your horse? But I am just worried about Bhasha! Can he take both of us.

Amarendra smiled at her concern even for a horse.

Amarendra: Don't worry. He is fine. enti Bhasha?

He removed his arm from her waist and patted his stallion's mane who happily sighed and squealed in answer to its master. Amarendra patted again and rested his arm back in his wife's waist. Other hand was having the reign on his stallion.

Amarendra: Moreover we are not going on like this for long time.

Devasena: Oh!

She sounded disappointed. This closeness with sitting her back resting on her husband's front while he rode his black beauty and the friction the travel produced was so soothing and flaming at the same time. She was not ready to let go this so soon. But how will she voice this to THAT MAN!

Amarendra: If you want we can ride like this all life you know?

He whispered leaned into her ears. His breath was fanning her baby hairs near her ear. Her breathing went shallow at the closeness. They have been travelling nearly all night, and if she was right, it was almost dawn now. But still her bullheaded husband would not say where they were going. But that man knew how to tempt and distract her.

His husky laugh and Bhasha's snicker made her come out of her reverie! She gave Amarendra an elbow jab.

Devasena: Jeevithantam tharuvata! First tell me are we going to rest somewhere?

Before Amarendra could answer that Bhasha squaled catching their attention. But before they could act an arrow went whirring in his ears missing him in millimeters as he inched side knowing the attack. Before he could react, Devasena was down the saddle looking at the direction of the aim. When she found out, she took the dagger that Amarendra bound to their mount and aimed at the direction and there came the wail of the fallen warrior.

Now Amarendra was down the saddle too but the men surrounded them. Devasena and he stood back to each other and yet they were in motion not giving a chance for their captors to attack them. Both had their senses at alert. Both had their swords pulled.

The men around them had black masks covering their half faces. One of them who had had enough of games eyed another man to attack Amarendra and another to attack Devasena. Devasena who saw the signal to attack Amarendra moved in lightening speed cut him from above and reached his attacker and had victory over the warrior. At the same time Amarendra who saw the signal to attack Devasena did the same and had his sword cut the warrior's throat.

The men who saw that had shivers running down their spines. So they surrounded them at once in one single attack. But both Amarendra and Devasena were too fast for them. So, very soon all 15 warriors were down. Amarendra looked at Devasena with so much adoration in his eyes. Yes he had seen her fight before. But this time it was different to watch it so close. He was awed at her handling the sword. Damn the woman was way better than him when it came to fast attack. But he was more thoughtful than fast. He looks for a point to hit where it would really pain. He does not attack on impulse. Devasena was awed at this quality in him. Well every person had their talents. Both nodded to each other as Amarendra bent to one man who had a message leaf on him which stated about rolling the dice.

Amarendra was confused at this attack. He planned so much to confuse everyone when he left the stables. Then how come these men found him and his wife. He came to a conclusion that their attacker on safe side had used divide and conquer on them much to his chagrin. Soon he and Devasena pulled the men aside the path to the trees on side and kept them hidden without any other traveller to come upon them. Soon they were saddled up again.

This time he rode more faster than before. Devasena understood the reason for his pace and Bhasha too did. Slowly she put her hand over his that were around her waist securing her to him. She leaved her back on his front. He sighed.

Devasena: Relax Amarendra! Don't punish the poor animal!

Amarendra: I am not punishing Devasena! But we are not safe anymore. We need to reach our destination as soon as possible.

Devasena: And where is that?

Amarendra: you will know when we reach there!

Devasena: You sure won't tell me?

She growled in anger and exasperation! This was one annoyingly exasperating man she had married! Urhh! She so wanted to strangle him.

Amarendra: Not even if you strangle me Manohari!

Devasena jerked a little making him laugh. Good god! He relaxed at least! Devasena was relived. She cannot see him upset or angry or sad! Mainly not with tears! Man! Can a Man cry?

Amarendra: Do not overthink! Just enjoy the journey.

Saying he pressed her more firmly to his front. He could feel the warm raising in her. So he leaned to her ears.

Amarendra: Enti Manohari? Speechless again?

And this time he saw another heat raising. This had nothing to do with her new found shyness. He enjoyed this. He laughed merrily as his Stallion too squealed in their happy mood as it flew as its master directed!

It was a beautiful sunrise. Not that it was any new to Devasena. But something was new this time. Sunrise was the best part of the day for her that never ceased to capture her. Whenever she is out of Kunthala Rajyam, Sunrise was one thing that made her feel home. Mainly when it was surrounded by the chill air of mountains and freedom of the wildness around it.

This time it was new to her because, this time she was leaning on her very strong, manly, Lord Indra like Handsome husband who rode her on his stallion with his arms secured around her. She looked up at the sky as red hues slowly adorned the sky with green mountains with white caps illuminated it more beautifully.

Amarendra: Em choostunav Devasena? What are you looking at?

Devasena: The day blooming! It is my favorite time of day you know! When the Sun rises.

Amarendra: I can see that! And I can see where your attitude comes from!

Devasena(frowning): Whatever you mean by that?

Amarendra(chuckling): Amma used to say that the person who believes in Sunrise is a person of positive thoughts and aggressive attitude. And you my wife have both of these!

He nudged his nose through her long thick tresses to nuzzle the back of her neck Sending shivers down her spine. But soon she recovered and gave him a jab on his stomach with her elbow.

Devasena: And you my husband have a peculiar way of greeting the morning!

Amarendra: Why the jab for that?

HE asked appalled and pouted like a boy from whom a sweet has been snatched. Devasena smirked. She slowly let her hand caress his that was around her. From the tremble she could see that her plan was working. Suddenly when he least expected, she pinched his arm making him wince.

Devasena: Concentrate on our path so we can reach our destination without breaking our necks. Enti Bhasha?

She gave a friendly tap to the animal which squealed happily and trotted a few fast steps answering her. Amarendra scowled at his wife and his mount.

Amarendra(muttering): Traitor!

Devasena laughed while Bhasha snorted which made Amarendra smile. His wife managed to even befriend his horse. She had that aura around her that had people pulling them to her. She was something! His eyes turned tender looking at his laughing wife. With so much wild around, her laugh boomed and reached his ears like music. Unlike in Palace where she had to behave.

TELL ME THIS IS NOT THE PLACE I AM SEEING!

Devasena turned to him completely appalled!

Amarendra: Whatever you mean?

He asked mocking. Because he knew the reason for her outburst. As they were in Singapuram borders.

Devasena: Oh you know perfectly what I mean.

Amarendra: Then why waste breath asking me Manohari!

Devasena: Oh yes! I should have understood when you started using that endearment too much. Do you realize you have brought your wife to bandit caves?

Amarendra was thoroughly enjoying annoying his wife. He was actually smiling.

Amarendra: Why is my lioness stuttering?

Devasena: Oh why Am I even talking to you! And how are we supposed to get in dressed like this?

She gestured their civilian clothes that still showed them dignified.

Amarendra: Patience Devasena! Do you even know that word?

Devasena: Even if I don't you are teaching me the word letter by letter. So I don't bother.

He shook his head. This woman! He took a stash of clothes which he had tied on his horse before they left the stables.

Amarendra: Here! Now go behind the rock and change. Or should I come and..

Devasena: ah.. Ahan! Stay where you are Amarendra! I am very well capable.

Devasena went behind one of the rocks there and looked at the robe he had given her. It was one nice Suntime orange belle costume that girls in those caves wear. Something she would have chosen to wear if she were to come here. Just like last time she was dressed in nice black ghagra. Her husband did have eyes for best! Smiling and shaking her head she disrobed herself and dressed as soon as possible. When she came out, she was in for a sweet shock!

Last time, she had seen him, he was in green robes! She thought he looked good in them. But this time! Uff.. Those grey tunic created an allure around him. His beige chainse only added to it. And those black breeches with matching grey belt confining his narrow hips! Man she wanted to just pull him to her and never let him go! Her husband would make one Handsome bandit! Was she going to have tough time guarding him from those dames lurking in there?

Similar thoughts were running around Amarendra's mind as he saw Devasena looking like a just blossomed flower in those robes! Was he going to have tough time scaring off robbers, thieves and bandits in there?

He was still looking at her as she slowly walked to him from the rock! Damn she looked so beautiful! If he thought saree was doing her justice till now, this was something that he never expected to suit her! MAn he was going to have tough time keeping his hands of her.

Both stood in front of each other taking their fills through their eyes. But their moment was broken when Bhasha squealed and nudged him making him miss his step and fall on his wife who caught him. She looked down at his confused eyes and then started laughing as she straightened him. His cheeks warmed in embarrassment. As he turned to scowl at his pet. But devasena was already attending to him. He saw her give him sugar pieces. Then only he remembered that he had forgotten Bhasha's treat which was why his angry pet had taken revenge for.

He slowly walked to them and caressed its mane.

Amarendra(softly): Do you have to embarrass me in front of my wife?

Devasena: OH yes! how can you forget his treat for bringing us here! And what is there to be embarrassed with me Amarendra?

She winked. Damn the woman! She was learning his tactics to annoying and she used them very well! And his horse was supporting her. He could see himself turning into a whining little boy!

Amarendra: Ah! you had to rub that on my face! Now come on lets move! We have important works.

Before Devasena could question, they were walking to the entrance of the caves. They very well knew the danger of them entering the caves. But they also knew to mingle among them. So it was not tough. But this time Devasena was not that easy going. Every minute she found herself looking for her husband who was in men's side while she was among the belle's there. Suddenly she saw him coming to her and eyeing her to a confined place closed with screens for privacy. Soon both were heading there. To her surprise she found Naayak and Sulochana there!

Devasena: You both? (turning to Amarendra) I am even tired of asking!

All three chuckled. They settled themselves.

Amarendra: Looks like we were in for surprise Naayaka! You managed well?

Naayaka: Oh yes! But surprise?

Amarendra: We were attacked too!

That had the other man frowning.

Sulochana: But how is that possible? They were supposed to be confused.

Devasena: WHAT?

Amarendra: But they were certainly not.

Naayak: Also possible that we all were followed!

Devasena: But?

Amarendra: Any news about the carriage?

Sulochana: Attacked too! They are safely resting in Kunthalam!

Devasena: THat is enough! You are not talking in riddles with me sitting here! Either tell me or leave me!

All three exchanged looks. Then Amarendra started telling. How Naayak heard about someone planning attack on him as they planned to leave the palace.

Devasena: That was supposed to be secret!

Amarendra: Have you heard that even walls have ears?

Devasena(muttering): Yes. From the time I knew you!

Amarendra: I heard that!

He said trying to sound intimidating. But she smiled sweetly. Trying to look demure! If this was her version of Demure, Amarendra decides that he did like her. WAs it possible to like same woman on different occasions? Well he was finding it!

Naayak: SO obviously someone heard us! So we had another plan handy. TO confuse them. So we left in 3 different means at different times taking different paths to our destination. All 3 couples dressed alike.

Devasena: Still you failed.

Amarendra: Its just a hitch. That Palace proves to be more and more unsafe.

Naayak: Why don't I find that surprising?

Amarendra: Being glib about him if definitely not helping Naayaka!

Amarendra and Devasena scowled at Naayak. Sulochana just smiled knowing her husband. She just nodded at him in admonish! They cannot openly show antagonism against New King Bhallaladeva. Now can they?

Naayaka: Neither you making him King! I still don't understand this decision of yours.

Devasena: Naayaka! You will not talk like that to him! But yes! Neither do I understand!

Amarendra: Devasena! You support and offend me in same breath. Do you know that?

Devasena: And he is amused!

She said to her loyal man! Sulochana and Naayak only smiled looking at the couple! They were beyond their understanding.

Amarendra: It is not our crisis now. We have to destroy whatever he is planning. With me being the king, would have ended things bad you know? Whatever he was planning it was for the throne! If he got that, he will have to stop. Right?

Devasena: You think that?

She knew her husband and his brother well to take those words.

Naayak: I seriously doubt that he is going to stop Maha..

Amarendra: Oh Stop addressing me that you both! And yes, I don't think he will stop. BUt just slow down. And we will have to use this time for our advantage.

Now she was definitely sure that something was up her husband's sleeve and her people were with him! She did not know to be happy or be angry at the fact!

Devasena: And how is that?

Amarendra: Patience! Not everything is to be told Devasena! Somethings are better done than said. So Naayak?

Naayak: Yes! Our men are in places and are well hid. We will be informed.

Devasena: Informed?

Naayak: Just like today the New king is getting married to the Ravi Nagaram Princess Prasanna Devi!

That was news to everyone in the room.

Sulochana: When did you come to know?

Naayaka: When we came to know the safe reach of other two to our kingdom. Since now he is the King and King has to be married, his marriage has been preponed.

Amarendra was in deep thought!

Amarendra: Keep doing what we already planned Naayaka! Reach home safely and have the place just good for your queen. And keep your warriors on toes!

And he dismissed them and moved out from there in deep thought. He asked Devasena to be safe among the belles there and moved out briefly. But Devasena had other plans.

There in Maahishmati, Bhalla was sitting in his chamber all ready for his pre Marriage rituals. Any moment his people would come to perform them. But he had his eyes only for the crown that was in front of him on a table! Everytime he saw that, he remembered his mother's tortured eyes, Ministers' questioning eyes. But the pair of eyes that infuriated him most was that of his brother and his wife's. His brother's held that look when he gave him something that he wanted but instead his brother got! Bhalla hated when he had to take from Baahu! HE liked when he took on his own. But not when he was given. And now the biggest desire of his life, his rightful throne was GIVEN to him. BY HIM! What was he to do about that?

He was going mad with the rage! HE yelled and pushed the crown from where it sat. It rolled down but stood mocking him.

But then he smirked. He never once had accepted those given things before. He remembered how he had destroyed them. But this.. He was not going to destroy. But TAKE! Oh yes! He would take! He would take the throne! And He would make his brother and his wife Pay for it! For the stunt they pulled. OH yes. THey would! He had already started his work on that!

Here in Bandit caves, Devasena was smiling and laughing with the belles there when a man came to the entrance and signalled to her. She careful not to gain attention went to private area. The man bowed.

Devasena: Ajeya!?

Ajeya: Rani Devasena! What a fortune to meet you here!

Devasena: Anything for me?

Ajeya: Most definitely! First my heart felt wishes on your marriage!

Devasena: Dramatic Enough Ajeya! What is the news.

Ajeya: Been given a job Rani!

And he explained the job which had Devasena both Angry and little scared? Anxious?

Devasena: Are you sure about the person? Are you sure they are not from Maahishmati?

Ajeya: Yes RAni! The man was definitely not from Maharaja's place. Since my Loyalty is always with you, I had to come and inform you! But then I heard that..

Devasena: No need of details. Just keep digging more about the person. Did you say he did sound royal?

Ajeya: Oh he did! Though he tried to disguise, he did not hide well enough. Traits you see?

Devasena: I do see! Careful Ajeya! Don't let anyone get a wind about you. Alert your other boys and let them go around the kingdom and keep me informed.

Ajeya was dismissed. This puzzle was getting more and more complicated. First her husband's descending, then the attack, Now this! She had to inform her husband. But where was the man.
