Kaala Teeka is the story of an astrologer Vishwaveer Jha and his family located in the city of Mithila on the banks of river Ganga. In his quest to keep his only daughter, Gauri, safe and protected, a superstitious Vishwaveer adopts another baby girl,Kaali, who has been abandoned. Kaali is believed to be Gauri's 'kaala teeka' - a protection from evil energies. As a result, although the two girls are brought up in the same house, Kaali unfortunately is always ill- treated and goes through many hardships in order to keep Gauri safe. However, Kaali grows up to become a strong personality and in spite of being a victim to a heightened superstition, shines as a beautiful example of 'Hope'.

Watch Kaali stimulate this ray of hope in such superstitious societies on our new show 'Kaala Teeka', starting 2nd November, Mon-Fri, 7 pm only on Zee TV.

Simran Pareenja as Grown-Up Kaali

Kaali has grown up enduring the torture of Madhuri because Vishwaveer was jailed because of her. She still lives like a shadow of Gauri. Kali has been writing exams for Gauri and winning certificates and trophies for her all these years. She doesn't speak much, except to Gauri. But when she sings, she gets a fresh lease on life. Singing is the only thing that gives her peace. She however is looking for somebody who will recognise her for her true self and not as Gauri's Kaala Teeka. She keeps praying to Lord Ram for the same and is yearning for him to liberate her

Fenil Umrigar As Grown-Up Gauri

Gauri has been brought up like a princess but the extra affection has made her a nasty, mean, spoilt brat who throws her weight around and doesn't listen to anybody except Kalyani. Gauri hasn't studied after 2nd standard because Kaali has been writing exams for her. She tries to be fancy with the way she uses English words but does not have much idea of what she speaks. She takes it for granted that her mother will buy her whatever she needs or that Kaali will get it for her. When Gauri gets angry with her mother, she doesn't hesitate to insult her in front of her friends. If she gets hurt, she gets back at the person in the meanest way possible. She cannot be asked to do something and she will do what she wants to do.

Rohan Gandotra As Yug Mishra

Yug is a classic example of today's youth. He is righteous but not rigid, disciplined but not time-bound, believer but not a fanatic, helper but not overtly benevolent - a perfect mixture of sugar and spice. He has been raised with the right values by Manjari, known in the house as Peeshimaa. He likes to listen to stories from his Dadimaa about his Dadaji and feels that whoever he will fall in love with, he will love her with all his heart. He adores his elder sister Sharmila to bits. Yug loves music and falls in love with Kaali's voice. He believes that love is blind.

Sargam Khurana As Child Kaali

Kaali, the protagonist of the story, is an enthusiastic, enterprising, level headed girl who has a positive outlook and is passionate about her life and future. She is the symbol of hope and finds happiness in the smallest of things around her. Mature, dedicated and kind-hearted, she strives to be honest and obedient. She however, is a victim of extreme superstition where she is believed to be Gauri's 'kaala teeka', her protector from the evil eye. She has been forced into several obligations and has accepted them gracefully. She is Gauri's only friend and confidante. Kaali is resilient and accepts the tasks asked of her. Curious to know what lies beyond the four walls that she has been confined to for most of her life, feels caged up and yearns to be free. Kaali finds solace in Manjiri's warmth and comfort.

Adaa Narang As Child Gauri

Being the only daughter born after 80 years in the family, Gauri is the apple of her father's eye. She has a caring and considerate nature and has a close bond with Kaali. She therefore shares all her possessions with Kaali. Gauri is educated from the best schools and parts all her knowledge to Kaali who is not allowed to go to school. Eventually circumstances and misunderstandings cause a falling out between them. Gauri wishes to ultimately settle down and have a happily married life.

Bhupinder Singh As Vishwaveer Jha

Vishwaveer Jha, from the city of Mithila is a well-known and dignified astrologer. He is a wealthy man known for his insight and accurate predictions of the planetary positions and their impact over the human life. Vishwaveer has put in immense efforts to gain this insight and has an apt knowledge and understanding of astrology. Despite his knowledge, he refuses to predict and understand his own kundli. His daughter Gauri, is the apple of his eye for the safety of whom, he will go to any lengths. He believes that Kaali is Gauri's Kaala Teeka and will safeguard her from the evil forces. He decides to leave his practice in astrology for the safety of his daughter.

Daljeet Kaur As Manjiri

Manjiri, Vishwaveer's wife is a highly moral woman who believes in humanity. Soft-hearted, she has a soft-corner for Kaali and is her only support in the house. Like Kaali she is positive and understands the trials that Kaali goes through. She is a perfect home maker and strongly believes in karma. Manjiri often covers up for Kaali when she is mistreated.

Mita Vashisht As Jethi Maa

Jethi maa is the eldest of the family and the wife of Vishwaveer's elder brother who has given up on all the materialistic desires of life and taken up sainthood. Jethi maa is a woman who tweaks and turns things and easily manages to manipulate people for her own benefit. She often easily finds her way out around things with Vishwaveer. Jethi maa has a sad life where her husband abandoned her and walked away. She mothered her only son who is the sole heir to their dynasty. Jethi maa is insecure about her existence after her husband leaves. She often feels the need to dominate over the house and Vishwaveer's family so that she is not abandoned by the rest of the family. It is her insecurity about the future which compels her to play some manipulative games within the family in order to have a secure grounding.

Rajesh Puri As Raj Purohit

Raj Purohit is Vishwaveer's childhood friend. Vishwaveer and Raj Purohit were educated by the same gurus in the same institution for astrology. Raj purohit unlike Vishwaveer is unable to achieve fame which makes him conscious and he has a low self-esteem. Vishwaveer being humble feels for his friend and in good will keeps him associated to his astrological work, but Raj Purohit at times does not see his good will and instead scorns him. Raj Purohit at times is irksome and is jealous of Vishwaveer, although he is very loyal and true towards Vishwaveer.
