Chapter 6: JAADU KI PAPPI
"Oh teri!!", both Cabir and Navya's eyes popped out seeing the scene unfold before them.
Manik had turned back, not knowing that Nandini was before him. Nandini, on the other hand, saw Manik with wide eyes realising what was about to happen.
"Manik!", was all she could say , not able to stop him. She clutched his t-shirt tightly and squeesed her eyes shut, waiting for the impact. But it never came..
Manik, realising what was happening, at the last minute pulled Nandini into his arms, protecting her, and turned himself as much as possible so that she wouldn't get hurt.Both of them fell on the ground, eyes closed , in a tight embrace.
Manik was the first to open his eyes. The sight before him brought a smile to his face. Nandini's face was burrwed in the crook of his neck, her eyes still closed and hands still clutching him.
His t-shirt was probably crumpled badly, but he didn't care. Her hair had come loose and fallen on her face. It almost looked like she was sleeping.
"Wow!" , was all Manik could think. He slowly lifted his hand and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. The action made Nandini to open her eyes.
The first thing she saw were two beautiful eyes looking at her, full of concern. Then her eyes widened as everything came back in a flash.
On noticing their entwined bodies, her eyes became as wide as saucers. She tried to move but couldn't because of Manik. He was still looking at her.
"Umm...", she said hesitatingly.
"Hmm..", was his reply.
"woh..", she was slowly slipping into a trance.
"Nandini..", he whispered .
Her heart started racing. It was the first time he said her name out loud. Both of them were lost in their own world, forgetting the other two around them.
The initial shock on Cabir's face turned into a glee smile.
"Majnu ko apni laila milgayi", he thought.
He wanted to see what would happen but afsos Navya spoilt his idea. "
Nandini ...", she said slowly.
It was enough to bring both of them to reality. Nandini looked away to see Navya, still having a shocked expression and Cabir, now smiling brightly.
Manik too saw them and sat up, carefully letting go of Nandini. He was annoyed, they ruined his moment with Nandini.
Nandini , on the other hand was feeling embarressed , a red blush creeping on her face. She couldn't believe what she was doing. Slowly the two of them got up.
"Nandu tum teek ho na? Kuch hua tho nahi na??" Navya asked, worried.
Before she could answer, Manik turned towards Nandini . "Nandini, your fine na? Did I hurt u? Dard hua kya?... ", he went on asking .
All Nandini could think that "He's concerned about me!", she was super happy. She wanted to hug him but controlled herself.
She looked at Manik, about to reply but was dumbstruck. She saw somthing that astonished her. There was a shining mark at the corner of Manik's lips.
It looked like pink lip gloss. To her horror, she realised it was her lip gloss. Oh shit! She kissed Manik!! Nandini was bewildered.
"Aiyappa!! Yeh kya hogaya!! Maine ... Maine.. Aahhh!!", she wanted to scream.
She couldn't stop looking at the mark. She wanted to wipe it off, but how could she? Then Everyone would come to know .. Manik would come to know..
" I kissed Manik!!".
"Nandini, kuch tho bolo", Navya said.
Nandini looked around, back to reality, everyone looking at her.
"Haan... Haan, me teek hoon.", she managed to say, fully flustered.
"I'm so sorry Nandini. Maine tumhe dekha nahi... I just.. I'm sorry.. ", Manik appologised , genuinely.Nandini managed to calm herself down and smiled.
"Its ok .. Me bilkul teek hoon. Tumhari galthi nahi hai", she said, although still looking at the mark.
Cabir noticed her agitation and wondered what was bothering her. Manik turned slightly and Cabir finally saw the lip gloss mark.
"Oho, toh yeh baath hai. Laila ne Majnu ko pappi di", he thought with a sly smile.
His eyes cought Nandini's and she knew that Cabir found out. She gulped and started to panic , but Cabir calmed her down by giving a look saying, "I'll take care of it."
Navya didn't seemed to notice the mark or Nandini's weird behaviour, just content with her being alright.
A bell rang somewhere in the distance. They had to leave now.
"Chalo Nandu, class ke liye late hojayenge.", Navya said walking towards Nandini. "Bye Cabir", she waved and then started to drag Nandini away.
Nandini looked at Cabir with a "Do somthing please " look and said "Bye Cabir".
She looked at Manik one last time , and gave a small smile."Bye.", she said shyly.
"Bye.", Manik said wondering about her strange behavior yet mesmarised by her cuteness. He couldn't believe that he had held her in his arms . He gave her a big smile, just as she and Navya disappeared.
"Bye Nandini.", Cabir said in a fake romantic voice, beside Manik. Manik gave him an annoyed look, still oblivious about the mark.
"What? Ese ghoor ke kya dekh rahe ho?", Cabir asked. His mind was filled with ideas to tease Manik about what had happened.
Manik was still looking at the place where Nandini and Navya had left .
"O Mr. Creepo. Ab yahi kade rehene ka plan hai kya. Woh chali gayi" , said Cabir.
"Cabir!", Manik said irritated .
"Acha suno. Toh kaisi lagi jaadu ki jappi? Wesebi tumhe mujhe thanks kehena padega ", Cabir said gleefully.
"What?!", Manik asked, " Yeh sab tumhare wajese hua. Tumse dhoor bhagke maine us se takradiya. Tumhe kyun thanks kahun?!".
"Exactly! Mere wajese tumne apni Laila .. I mean Nandini se milla, baat kiya aur tho aur hug bhi kiya. Wah Manik! Kya baat hai na. Mere wajese tum itna kush hogaye. " Cabir said winking at him.
Manik knew what Cabir said was right. But he wasn't going to openly admit it. He simply smacked Cabir's head.
"Chal, sab wait kar rahe honge", and Manik started walking off.
As much as Cabir would love to see Manik teased because of the lip gloss mark, he couldn't do that to his best friend. Only he had the right to tease Manik.
"Waise Manik... Sirf jappi nahi milli tumhe. Toh you owe me big haan", Cabir said.
"Kya matlab?", Manik asked him.
"Matlab...", Cabir took out his phone and opened the front camera and held it to Manik.
"Yeh kya...", Manik started to ask but then he saw what Cabir was talking about. The pink shiny lip mark right next to his lips.
"Ab kab kaise, yeh toh mujhe pata nahi par kisne kiya...", Cabir dragged on seeing Manik's reaction.
Nandini. The name flashed with neon lights in Manik's head.
"Beta, ab muh band karke isse nikalo. I know ki tum isse aise hi rakna chahoge par you know ki kya hoga", Cabir said.
Manik understood and wiped it off. It smelled sweet like cherries.
"Chale?", asked Cabir.
"Haan chalo", said Manik his mind already thinking back to their moment.
"You still owe me haan", Cabir said matter of factly.Manik simply chuckled.
"Jappi ke sath sath pappi bi milgayi , aur woh bhi ekhi meeting me. Wah bhai Cabir. Thu bada Cupid bangaya. Tere nishana sahi nikla. Waise.. Cupid Cabir..
