Its a pity that we dont have a regional thread on IF to discuss the current soaps.
One of them is Bojhena se Bojhena - the Bengali version of Iss Pyaar ko Kya Naam Doon? currently playing on Star Jalsa - the Bengali Star channel. Alongside it are a few more Bengali versions of popular Hindi dramas - Tomay Amay Miley (Diya aur Baati Hum), Mone Niye Kachcha Kachi (Yeh Hai Mohabbatein) and Bodhuboron (Saathiya).
Of these four, Not surprisingly - BSB has become the top rated show. Of course, the hero is ASR (in this case - Aranya Singha Roy) and the heroine is Pakhi Ghosh Dasatidar. The show debuted in November of 2013 - if I am not mistaken. And its still running today. How? you ask?
The show began as an almost frame by frame remake of IPKKND. But come the kidnap track - and things started changing.
What bothered me most is that the remake has changed the character of ASR - someone we all loved so much. In the famous bridge scene - he actually slaps Khushi!! I was horrified. Never would the ASR we know have raised his hand to Khushi - he couldn't bear to hurt her.

And then the changes came fast and quick. Krishnendu (Shyam) was "killed off" - only to return in cahoots with Pamela (Lavanya) to try to kill the two of them. The contract marriage saw a public unveiling and I was left wondering if I was watching the same show or not.
And I finally let go trying to make sense of this new show - for that is what it has become.
Am I glad I did? Yes of course. Because in the last few days - the show has begun taking twists and turns that - hmmm... how should I put it ... would satisfy Ms Gul Khan or the fans - depending on how you look at it.
The mom back story is gone - wonder why ASR is so kadoos then?
Dadiji is a no-show.
Harry (NK) has a girlfriend that he is going to marry - who happens to be a cousin of the Gupta sisters.
Akki (Akash) has a much bigger role to play and he does it well!
Anjali found out all by. herself how bad a person Shyam was and publicly had him arrested (yay!! didn't we all want that?) Now she's getting on with her life. Baby bump be damned - who knows what happened to it.
ASR and Pakhi (Khushi) are getting married - yes, its a second marriage
And Krishnendu (Shyam) comes to grovel at his feet and beg forgiveness.
Then he gets shot.
And so does ASR - and falls into the river. So either they'll get a new ASR (though now that the negotiations are complete, the actor is coming back) - or he gets to come back from the dead.
Pakhi (Khushi) of course is devastated. So now... ladies...
Shall we guess how ASR will make his reappearance?
a) amnesia> - favourite device of all writers - they have people with lost memories running rampant in the other shows - why not this one as well?
b) in a coma - oh how many wanted this outcome?
c) in a double role - as ASR - but another ASR altogether - long lost brother maybe?
I'd love to hear how the other languages are handling it. Are there other versions? Let me know, please.
Meantime - enjoy... the new and "improved" IPKKND
