In 2006, David Dhawan was asked to direct the remake
of late actor Dev Anand's 1970 hit, Johny Mera Naam.
The film was supposed to be produced by Suniel Shetty
and Shabbir Boxwalla. In fact, there were also talks of
Abhishek Bachchan reprising Anand's role of the
undercover CID officer in the film.
However, plans of the remake fell through at that time.
Now, after almost a decade, producer Gulshan Rai's son,
Rajiv Rai, has decided to remake Johnny Mera Naam with
Shabbir.
