Hello Friends! I am absolutely new to this show as well as this Discussion Forum. I just saw one episode of Reporters yesterday and fell in love with it, and watched all 38 episodes in one go! I loved it, and hence it brought me here - here I stumbled upon some really lovely FFs and OSs, hence it motivated me to write on KaYa. đ
Since I newly started watching the show, this story, though begins from the end of the hostage track, but then dwells into an alternate universe - if I have named wrong characters. please forgive me, I will catch up soon!! đđ
On that note, I hope you enjoy reading my first OS on KaYa as much as I enjoyed penning it down for you. Please drop by and leave me a feedback about my story - I hope to make many new friends here - On that note, Happy Reading! đłđł
Oh, and Midnight Sun - the title is apt, hence I used it, no Twilight connections here! đđ

Kabir was trying hard to not blink as he sat there fighting back the sting in his eyes, as the doctor directed the rays of the torchlight into his eyes.
"There is no sign of concussion it seems, Mr. Sharma, which is great! The nation wants to see you back on your KKN desk at 9PM tonight!" he smiled good-naturedly.
Kabir smiled a little and turned his attention to the overgrown child sitting on the next chair, awaiting her check-up. She was sitting there and fiddling with her locket - that was the first thing she asked Khurana, when they were rescued from the baagies' an hour or so, back. Kabir didn't miss the relief in her eyes, when she finally got her locket in her hand, unscrewed the cap and gently slid in his eight year old report on her father, which he had returned to her earlier, back into the safety of the capsule.
"Other than the sprain in your ankle, which has been taken care of, you seem fine too Ms. Kashyap. Just keep taking the pain killer for two more days, that should do the job" he assured her.
"Doctor, if they are fine, can we take them now?" asked Khurana.
"For sure officer, I am sure their families would be much relieved to see them return".
"Yes doctor, their families are very worried, they all are waiting for them at the KKN office" answered Khurana and motioned Kabir and Ananya to follow him outside.
"Families?" thought Kabir visibly irked. Surely Khurana didn't mean it, he probably only meant Ananya' family - he thought as he followed Khuaran outside the clininc into the police jeep.

As Ananya entered the KKN office, before she could clearly see her surroundings, the shrill choked voice of her weeping mother met her, "Ananya beta, you are here..." and before she could respond, she found herself tied in the tight embrace of her mother's arms. It was only than that the enormity of the past few days started sinking in, it felt like ever since they were captured, her mind was on auto-pilot, fear seemed to have done a bunk, but now in the safe and comforting embrace of her mother's hug, she seemed to find her fears at last, she hugged her tight and cried onto her mothers shoulder, partly in relief and partly in exhaustion. "Ma, I am back, what did you think, I will leave you both like papa?" she whispered in her mother's ear and the older woman cried harder - Her Ananya was never just her daughter, she was her pillar, how would she live if Ananya hadn't returned today - the thought made her shudder. Ananya slowly broke the hug and looked around, slowly Richa and her other peers and colleagues came to her and hugged and greeted her, Ronnie's face was ashened, it marked the number of sleepless night's he had gone with ever since she was kidnapped - even Manav Sir seemed not-so-cocky for a change, and Khalid's smile seemed almost genuine this time. She then turned back to look at Kabir Sir - he was standing at the entrance door with a frozen expression talking curtly to a burly man standing before him. Ananya frowned, could he be Kabir Sir's family she wondered, but before she could ponder, Richa pulled her to the washroom in an attempt to help her freshen up, before she left for home with her Ma and Armaan.

Kabir stood there, with his fist clenched as he looked into the other man's eyes. He had changed a great deal, he had put on considerable amount of weight, and his hairline had started receding slightly. If one looked carefully, the fine lines of ageing were starting to show near the corner of his eyes - but, his eyes, they were still the same - helpless as ever. Kabir sighed, age had indeed touched his bhai' and today stood before him - an older version of his once "partner of all sorts of crime", his beloved bhai - he seemed worried, which was understandable, after all they did share a very strong bond at one point - but was his sole worry strong enough to make him take a stand before his family? For him to put his relationship with his wife at stake, and come for him? Kabir wondered as both brothers silently eyed each other, oblivious of their surroundings.
Finally his brother broke the silence, he reached for Kabir's shoulder and gently held him, "Kabir, are you okay?" he barely whispered. All of Kabir's earlier resolution of not acknowledging him if they ever crossed paths, shattered at that moment hearing his bhai's concern - it felt like those times in childhood, when he would fall off a tree in their garden, how bhai would come and ask him with all his concern - it felt like that - it felt genuine.
"How come you are here...bh...bhai" he managed to mutter, controlling the choking in his voice.
"I was worried Kabir" and after a pause he continued, "We all were." Kabir gave an ugly involuntary laugh hearing that, and his brother shook his head in dismay, he knew Kabir wouldn't believe it, but it was true all the same.
"It's okay bhai, no need to polish the truth, I am amazed that bhabi even allowed you to come here" mumbled Kabir.
"She was worried too Kabir, she really was.." trailed of his bhai's voice.
Kabir stared at him, his bhabi was worried for him of all people? Wasn't his bhabi the one who ensured that Kabir had no family? After losing their parents early in life, bhai was all Kabir had, and bhabi had separated bhai from him too, making him virtually an orphan. It was at bhai and bhabi's wedding that Kabir had met Shreya, bhabi's younger sibling. For Kabir it was love at first sight - her long burgundy traces, her soft supple rose pink lips, those dusky eyes and that irresistible dimple, Kabir couldn't have asked for a prettier woman than her, and what more, he seemed to have a similar impact on Shreya too. Soon they were deeply in love and ready to tie the knot, but bhabi and Shreya's parents were against them - even though they liked Kabir, he was only a budding journalist then, he wasn't financially stable and they felt, he couldn't take care of Shreya - but bhai and bhabi had fought for them then, finally after a lot of debate, he and Shreya were happily married, but the wedding didn't last for long. After their wedding, with the added responsibility of Shreya, Kabir had started working doubly hard, he was desperate for success and recognition, he wanted to see the look of satisfaction in Shreya's parents eyes. He wanted to give Shreya all that she wanted, but his long work hours and continued absence, didn't go down well with his newly wedded wife. Shreya wanted both pampering and his time, Kabir was at a loss. Soon arguments crept into their marriage, and they were followed up by fights. The more Kabir tried to tie the lose knots, the more jumbled they became. Shreya wasn't happy with him, and that ate him - slowly as his marriage started depreciating, his career started flying. He was working for Delhi Kranti then, when he met Tarini, his junior reporter - Tarini was a fresh wave of optimism and happiness, however depressed Kabir was with his failing marriage, spending time with Tarini made him feel good - she was the friend he needed. After spending quality time with Tarini, he had stumbled upon a shocking news, Tarini had a son, Anurag - Upon further coaxing Tarini had owned up to him that she was cheated by her boyfriend who had promised to marry him, and had abandoned her when she was pregnant - upon hearing the news, her parents had disowned her, so here Tarini was working hard under him to support his son - the news made Kabir protective of Tarini, more so of the baby Anurag who was a handicap from birth. He reliefed Tarini of daily reporting duties and had made he his stringer, and he would personally support Anurag's medicinal expenses too.
It all changed when Shreya came to know about Tarini and Anurag by accident - Kabir always knew Shreya wouldn't see it the way he saw Tarini and Anurag, so he kept them away from her - and his was right, Shreya was unhappy in the marriage anyway, and now with the entry of Tarini and Anurag, and Kabir's protective nature towards them, it was the last straw for Shreya - she came out in the open and accused Kabir of infidelity - Kabir had many proofs to support his innocence, and he provided them to Shreya, but she didn't seem interested in accepting any of them, it seemed she had made up her mind and was only looking for a convincing reason - after that realization nothing could save their marriage. Shreya had gone and complained to bhai and bhabi about his infidelity and bhabi had never forgiven him ever since. Bhabi felt personally responsible for destroying Shreya's life b going against their parents and for that she would never forgive Kabir - she hated him - she had even clearly told bhai that if he tried to keep in touch with Kabir, she would sever all ties with him - bhabi was pregnant then, she even threatened to abort her baby - bhai had always been docile anyway, upon hearing all this he didn't have a choice but to abandon Kabir. And he had stayed true to his promise to bhabi, in these five years, he never tried to contact Kabir until now - and that he did, he also claimed bhabi cared for him?
"Kabir?" he heard his brother call out his name again and this broke his train of thoughts.
"Huh..bhabi was worried...err..why?" he managed to question bhai in disbelief.
"Hetal was worried because of Shreya, she was very worried for you. In fact Shreya requested Hetal to allow me to come and see you."
Shreya? After all these years? She had sent bhai to check on him? Why? Why did she care? A hundered thoughts flooded his head as he accidentally blurted out louder than he meant to "Shreya sent you here?" he quickly glanced around to look at Ananya, and to his relief (why though, he thought to himself) he saw she was still tightly hugging her mother and Armaan, she didn't hear him.
"Yes Kabir, Hetal and Shreya are both here, in the hotel, come with me, they want to see for themselves that you are safe" he smiled slightly and guided him gently by the shoulder towards the door, Kabir didn't resist, more than emotions, he was curious, and more than curious, he was tired, too tired to think straight, but as he left, he turned to see Ms. Kashyap once more, she had finally broken her hug with her family and was looking straight at him, for a strange moment he wanted to rush back and hug her the way she had hugged her mother, in that hug he saw her feeling at home, he saw her feeling comfortable, wanted and loved - and he for an insane moment felt, only if he could hug her that way, he would feel those feelings too - feelings he hadn't felt in five years now. "Ananya" he whispered in his head as he followed his brother outside the room.
***
As Ananya stared at his receeding figure with concern and confusion in her eyes, something tugged at her heart, she felt like he was calling her, could it be? She wondered, and just when a small smile was emerging from the corner of her lips, she heard Manav's familiar drawl from behind, "Don't worry about him partner, Kabir is going with his brother to visit his ex-wife, she is worried about him. I heard them talking. Looks like they will patch up soon. More reasons to celebrate for tomorrow eh?" he smiled silkily and left.
Ananya sighed, her time with Kabir Sir was up, as much as being kept as hostage felt horrifying, the continued presence of Kabir Sir soothing her, taking care of her felt heart warming, she had unconsciously thrived in that feeling and now when it was taken off her, she felt exposed and raw - she would cherish those moments with Kabir Sir forever now, after all she only had her rights on those few memories, the rest rightfully belonged to Shreya Ma'am, Kabir Sir belonged to her after all.
As for her, she would make do with just those forty-eight hours for the rest of her life - she thought as she rubbed off a dried tear from her cheek and smiled a little before she turned back to her mother and Armaan - the ones who rightfully belonged to her.
