CHAPTER 5
As Randhir had a prosthetic leg, he wasn't able to drive smoothly and that made me really nervous.
" So tell me about you", said Randhir.
"Um...I was thirteen when they found it. Pretty much worst case scenario. Thyroid, stage four. Not much they could do, which didn't stop them, of course. Surgery. Radiation. Chemo. More radiation. All of which worked for a while, but then it stopped working. And then one day my lungs started filling up with water. That should have been the end. But then something strange happened. The antibiotics kicked in. They drained the fluid from my lungs. I got some strength back. The next thing I know I found myself in an experimental trial. You know the ones that are famous in the Republic of Cancervania for not working. It's called Phalanxifor. It didn't work in over seventy percent of patients, but for some reason it's been working for me. So they called it "The Miracle." Of course my lungs still suck at being lungs, but theoretically, they could continue to suck like this for, I don't know, a while maybe. "
" So do you go to school?" he again asked.
" No, papa has taken special permission so I am going to college now."
" Ohh, a college girl." And he winks at me.
We reach his house a few minutes later. As he entered a parking lot he dashed into a bin.
I follow Randhir to the front door," Welcome to my abode."
As I was walking through the house, I saw quotes hung there.
" M y parents call them encouragements. Don't ask." He said making a face.
We proceeded to the kitchen. "Hey mom and dad." He chirped.
" Hey Randhir, oh new friend!!" his mom said.
" Yeah, her name is Sanyukta Agarwal."
" Oh, it is just Sanyukta. Namaste Uncle and Aunty." I said
" Namaste just Sanyukta!" said his dad.
I chuckled to his reply.
" Namaste beta." His mom said. His parents were sweet.
" Mom we are going to my bedroom to watch a movie." He had a big and posh house.
When we entered hi room, he exclaimed," Welcome to Randhirworld!!!"
I look around his massive impressive room. He has a big collection of basketball trophies and medals.
"That is an impressive collection!!"
"Yeah I used to play."
" So Sanyukta what are your interests, your hobbies, your passions, your weird fetishes."
" An Imperial Affliction" I said.
" Okay, so what is it?" He asked.
" It is a novel"
" So what is it about?"
" About cancer."
" uh... cancer ?"
"But not like that, trust me. It's...it's amazing. Um...the author, his name is Peter Van Houten. He is the only person I've ever come across in my life who a) understands what it's like to be dying, but b) hasn't actually died."
"Okay, I will read this

stormtroopers. And in exchange...
[he gets up and grabs a book from the shelf]

" Okay." I agreed
It was late so Randhir dropped me back home. Sitting in a car when he is driving is horrible.
" So Sanyukta are we meeting tomorrow."
"Isn't that too early" I cocked my eyebrow.
" No it isn't." he said.
" You can wait to see me again maybe after two to three days."
" No Sanyukta Agarwal, I want to meet you again after few hours but I am waiting till tomorrow and that is really wrong." He said.
"We don't know each other properly. Okay I will call you once I finish reading this book."
"And how do you know my number.?" He asked.
" I guess you have written it on the first page of the book." I raised my brow.
"And you are saying we don't know each other properly." He smiled sheeply.
After agreeing with the deal he drove away.
