If makers of Balika Vadhu were really against bal-vivah - they should have deglamorized it completely. I believe they did not do any research on the subject before presenting the serial. So, all they could show as adverse effect of bal-vivah is - the girl doing household works, stopping education of girl child and cruel in-laws. Now if we see the reality of population where bal-vivah is prevalent - we see the girls doing household works and not going to school even if they are not yet married, Cruelty of in-laws can affect any bahu - it is not because of bal-vivah, but because of the position of women in general in society. Other effects - abandoned brides and widows and cheating by husband - these problems are also being faced by women who marry in adulthood.
The makers should not be preachy when they show just opposite of what they preach. All the bal-vivah worked in the serial - one way or the other - Bhairo- Sumi, Basant- Jamuna (even women who marry in adulthood can also die in childbirth), Shyam's parents, Shyam's tau-tai, Anandi's parents, Anandi's neighbours, Pratap's parents, Lal Singh - almost everybody. If the makers were really honest - they would have shown Anandi's story as it happens in reality better still juxtaposing it with one of her friend which remained with her parents and married in adulthood. Or child marriage of Anandi's friend and Anandi remained with her parents - completing her studies and marriage in adulthood.

Who would want to watch deglamourised documentary style way of telling ill effects of child marriage?
After all this is a fiction format and they would have  to dress up a bit to wider section of audiences.

What ever said and done they did achieve the purpose of making the viewers think about people who are trapped in those situattions they have shown.

If the makers are able to make the viewers think about those real people who are trapped in those situations they are succesful in their efforts

Longtime ago there was an issue of India Today entirely dedicated to childmarriages of Rajasthan. The stories of those kids were very much similar to what was shown in the show.

If it had not been for the show child marriages would have been just something we read in the news.for most of us.

The writer himself said Anandi's story is inspired by his mother's friend's life who was married off in childhood an her husband left her.

How many people were aware of that law that child marriages will become legal if they haven'r filed for anullment even after becoming adults?

If people can watch Uttaran with a deglamorised Ichcha and Damini - people could certainly watch a deglamorised balika vadhu. It is personal choice if some people say that the serial did achieve greatness - because these people are happy with Anandi connecting with Singhs (who are connected with Anandi through bal-vivah) only, was wishing to do away with Shakhers (who are connected with Anandi through marriage in adulthood) long before writers made Shakhers disappear. How many in general population think Anandi- Singhs better than Anandi - Shakhers?

Don't know about Uttaran .Never watched it except for a few odd scenes here and there.what little I have seen didn;t appeal to me so I didn;t watch it so will not dissect and analyse why it didn't appeal to me and what writers should have done to make it appealing to the likes of me.
Don't understand if people watch it only to criticiise it.

When the tag line itself  screams about kacchi umar ki pakke rishte and the main relationship is betwen the old lady and the little girl who were brought together through child marriage and the ups and downs in their relationship why blame the writers for highlighting the relationship between the two women?

They are telling the story which they want to and through the story they are raising which they feel are of social importance

As far as I know people watch TV shows only if something in it appeals to them if they don't find anything appealing in the show they won't watch it.

Never understand why people watch it if it doesn't appeal to them then spend so much time criticising it.

Any ways thanks to all this critics who are so relentless and continue to watch it despite not finding anything to appreciate about the show I am finding more reasons to appreciate it.

Someone said ''Anandi should  leave BH because  It won't do good for shivam  if he stays in the company of a selfish, attention seeking, inferior feeling  cousin who can do nothing but cringe about people better than him. Instead of tying shivam's wings Anandi should take him out somewhere to a better place. ...''

I wonder why Shivam, being  so smart,  an obedient, an impeccable  boy did not use those  wings to come  home from school. Abhi will  be punished as usual. And yes, children should be taught to deal with the consequences of their actions. But, is Shivam going to  be criticized for what  he has done coz   it wasn't   good either. For such a smart and capable boy he himself claims  he is, there were plenty of other options to safely go back  home, but since he's so smart and overconfident, he  put himself in danger.   Abhi's   not allowed to play ball inside  the house because  he might break something,  someone can be  hurt. The same rule does not apply to Shivam. His mother doesn't  mind if her son does the same thing which is forbidden for the other kid who happens to live in his own home. Or Shivam is so perfect so these kind of accidents are simply impossible when it comes to  Shivam. Atleast, one day as an adult  Abhi   will  know the difference between right and wrong, Abhi will know how  to apologize because his parents    taught him  so. Shivam will grow up as overly confident because everything he does is ok. And it has nothing to do with the  place    Shivam lives,it has to do with his mother and te way  she educates him. So both kids deserve a lesson on what they did.  I'm pretty  sure its not gonna happen, like always.

Ganga wanted to slap him and anandi stopped her. Ganga clearly implied that she did not want interference from anandi in disciplining abhi. Abhi is getting confusing signals from elders.

Shivam looked distraught.

Let us see. Will the CVs do justice to this interesting track which is way better than Nandini's track?

Don't know whether this comes under prank or not.
Ganga Jagya instead of thrashing him and shouting at him should be asking question a simple question why did Abhi do that
Ganga may not want Anandi interference from Anandi but here Abhi is getting thrashed for what he had done with her son.
They all know that Abhi and Shivam are having problems - If Ganga takes Abhi to task over what he has done to Shivam it only make things worse.
Abhi will resent Shivam even more because of that and things escalate.

In this situation Abhi will only think that hisparents are supporting Shivam and not him and that's why they are beating him up.

Slapping him is no way to control the situation nor it is an answer to the problem.

Had his parents given him enough time and attention he wouldn't be this way.
It's high time Abhi's parents realised that Abhi is actually screaming for help.
They should realise that Abhi is taking out all his frustrations on that boy

Ganga could have disciplined him in private instead of in front of others which would have been humiliating to the boy.  Here a good consellor can help the kids to overcome their anxieties instead of parents because parents cant be effective sometimes. Nowadays the emphasis is for counsellors in educational institutions and hospitals because the pressure of competition is too much.

The serial has many loopholes and thats why there is so much discussion and counterpoints. If the serial is flawless, then there will be very little to discuss about expect agreeing to what is portrayed.

Why Nandini only? Even the others are in full makeup in kitchen, after waking up, in sweltering heat, in all circumstances with not a strand of hair out of place. In tv serials, I have seen women coming to pooja rooms in heels and men sleeping with their shoes on.

True. She should not have done that in front of everybody. Now he will feel even more humiliated. The situation has become worse.
I think they all should realise that it is important to spend some quality time with children.it is not how much time you spent with them but how well you spent with them.
Spend time listening to them instead of making them listen to what you have got to say about them.
They should make it clear to Abhi that Abhi's place belongs to Abhi and no one else can take that place.
And after that they shpuld make him think as to why he feels negative towards Shivam.
-----------
Also Anandi has to realise that not just Nandini but Shivam is also growing up in an environment that is not right for him and move out of BH.

I can see further worsening of situation in BH between kids. and that will affect everyone around.

As dadisa took the initiative to bring anandi and shivam in, she should also make separate living arrangements for them away from BH. Even then there will be problems as they share the same school.
