CHAPTER - 15
Mayank and Dhruv were finally able to find a lawyer for their mother Shilpa.On the day of the court's hearing,all the kids were sent to Anjali's maternal home which was there in that city itself.In the court,all were present and Shilpa was brought in front of the court.When she was placed in the witness box,the Prosecution Lawyer (PL) presented the case in front of the court and the Defence Lawyer (DL) defended the case in favour of Shilpa.All the time,Shilpa was standing quiet in front of the judge and inspite of asking so many questions,she didn't answer any of the questions.The DL looked helplessly towards Mayank and Dhruv.Shilpa was looking like as if she was in some kind of trance and her eyes were simply blank as if she didn't care for anything.The PL asked and asked her many questions and even instigated her,made her angry but it had no effect on her.Due to hearing so much of noise,shouts of the lawyer,her head started spinning and she was about to fall when the lady police officers held her and she was brought down of the witness box.Mayank and Dhruv helped her sit on a chair and she was given a glass of water.The judge asked,"Mrs Sharma kya aap thik hai?"After many days,for the first time,she opened her mouth and slowly in a low voice,she replied,"Ji ha main thik hu."She sad to her sons,"Tum log jaao main thik hu."She took some breath and then looked at the PL and slowly asked,"Wakil sahaab...agar aapke goad mein aapke chote chote maasoom bachche jo abhi abhi is duniya mein aaye hai,unki laash ho,tab aap kya karenge?"The lawyer was surprised and asked,"Ye kaisa sawaal hua?"Shilpa asked,"Boliye na wakil sahaab?"The PL replied,"Mujhe bohot zyaada taklif hogi,aisa lagega jaise mere liye meri puri duniya khatam ho chuki ho."She lightly smiled and then said,"Aap baap hokar ye baat keh rahe hai...to sochiye us ma par kya beetti hogi jisne apne bachcho ko 9 mahine apne kokh mein paala aur phir jis goad mein usey khilaaya ho,usi goad mein unki laasho ko uthaana pare."She again asked the PL,"Ek aur sawaal wakil sahaab agar aapko pata chale ke vo mare nehi unhe maar diya gaya tha aur vo kaatil hamesha aapke aakho ke saamne ghumte rahe aur aap chah kar bhi unhe sazaa nehi de paaye,tab aap kya karenge?"The PL looked confused and remained silent thinking that any comment of his on this matter might turn his career.Seeing that,Shilpa said,"Aap wakil hai shaayd aap is baat ka jawaab nehi de sakte hai par ek aam aadmi agar hota na to unhe jaan se maar deta aur usko khoon karna nehi kehte,vadh karna kehte hai."She looked at the judge and said,"Maine bhi vohi kiya hai judge sahaab,maine bhi do paapiyo ka vadh kiya hai,par ha mujhse ek galti ho gayi,ke maine bohot der kardi..."He again had some sip of water and then slowly started again,"Main ek bohot hi zyaada middle class family se thi aur mere 6 bhai behen the.Mere bauji ek maamuli si naukri karte the aur hum itne logo ka pet paalte the.Kabhi kabhi waqt se pehle hi paise betiya thi,vo tak khush nehi the to main kisse kya shikaayat karti."Mayank,Dhruv,Nupur and Anjali were shocked hearing that Mayank and Dhruv had two sisters before they were born and their mother sab yehi chah rahe the."Telling upto that Shilpa started crying very badly.On seeing that Nupur and Anjali too had tears in their eyes.She again started,"Maine apne haatho se apni betiyo ka antim samajhme nehi aa raha tha ke main kya karu,kiske paas jaau,kisse kahu ke mere saath kya hua hai.Maine apni ma se ye baat kahi par kahi meri shaadi na toot jaaye is vajah se meri ma ne mujhe chup rehne bhulaane ki koshish ki,par meri do maasoom betiyo ka chehra mujhe ye bhulna nehi deta tha.Phir bhagwaan ne sabki suni aur maine apne bare bete Dhruv ko janam diya aur uske thik 8 saal baad apne chote bete Mayank ko janam diya.Mere saare gharwaalo ne bohot koshish ki ke mere beto ko vo apni tarah ghatiya soch waale banaaye,par bhagwaan ka lakh lakh shukr hai jo unhone mere dono beto ko ye samajh di ke insaano ke saath insaano jaisa bartaav karna chahiye."After talking for such a long time,Shilpa was very tired and so the court ordered for lunch break of half an hour.
While everyone were out of the court,Mayank,Dhruv,Anjali and Nupur were sitting surrounding Shilpa.They brought some food for her and Mayank asked,"Ma apne hume ye baat kyu nehi bataayi ke hamaari do do behne thi?Aapke saath itna kuch ho gaya uswaqt aur aap itna sab kuch sehti rahi??Akele?"Nupur said,"Aap to hume apni betiya maanti thi na aur aapne hume bhi nehi bataya."Shilpa replied,"Ek aurat ka dil samandar jaisa hota hai jiske andar bohot saare raaz hote hai aur vo raaz bataane ke liye nehi hai.Main ek ma hu Nupur aur har ma ka ye farz hota hai ke vo apne bachcho ko us har ek cheez se dur rakkhe jo uske liye thik na ho.Tab mujhe bhi ye nehi pata tha ke itihaas apne aap ko phir se dohraayega.Khair..."She completed her food as she was forced by Nupur and then again appeared before the court.In the court,the case was resumed and the PL said,"Main samajh sakta hu ke aapke saath bohot galat hua tha,par jab aapne sab kuch bhulaane ka faisla kar hi liya tha to achaanak aapne unhe maara kyu?"Shilpa replied,"Mere bete bare huye aur phir unki shaadi ho gayi.Meri bari bahu Anjali ko judwa bachchiya hui aur is baat ko lekar ghar mein bohot hungama hua tha.Jab vo pregnant hui to main har roz bhagwaan se ye prarthna karti thi ke usey bete ho taaki usey meri jaisi kismat na miley.Par bhagwaan ko shaayad kuch aur hi manzur tha aur tabhi unhe betiya hui aur har roz humiliation sehne ke vajah se mere bete ne apne pure parivaar ke saath ye ghar chor diya aur Canada mein settle ho gaye.Usi beech neri choti bahu do baar ma banne waali thi par dono hi baar uska miscarriage ho gaya.Par teesri baar usne ek beti ko janam diya par janam ke kuch ghanto baad hi us bachche ke maut ki khabar aayi.Meri Nupur puri tarah se toot chuki thi aur phir mere bete aur bahu ne ye tey kiya ke vo log ek bachcha goad lenge aur unhone ek beti ko goad liya.Uske aane se aisa laga jaise unki zindagi waapas aa gayi par khushi to bas kuch hi dino ka mehmaan tha par asli tufaan to tab aaya jab ye pata chala ke vo goad li hui bachchi aur koi nehi unhiki teesri beti thi jo mari hui bataayi gayi thi aur ye sab kiya dhara aur kisika nehi balki un dono aurto ka tha jinhone meri betiyo ko maara.Phir mujhe saari baat samajhme aayi Anjali ki pehli aur Nupur ki aakhri pregnancy ke dauran unhe apne maayke bhej diya gaya tha aur isi vajah se vo bachche bach gaye par pehli dono pregnancy ke dauraan Nupur hamaare saath thi aur isiliye vo dono unhe maar paaye.Chaanbin ke baad police ko ye pata chala ke un dono ne doctor s ko bhi kharid liya tha Nupur ko aisi dawa khilaane ke liye jisse uska miscarriage ho jaaye aur pata bhi na chale aur teesre waqt,ek wardboy aur ek nurse ko kharid liya unke bachche ko marwaane ke liye."Shilpa again had a glass of water and said,"Jab un dono ka ye sach sabke saamne aaya to unko is baat se koi fark hi nehi para au raise bol rahe the jaise unhone bohot achcha kaam kiya ho."Shilpa had tears in her eyes out of anger and said,"Maine Mayank aur Nupur ko apne bare bete ke paas Canada bhej diya par us din ke baad ek bhi din main chain se nehi so saki,har raat ko meri bachchiya mere sapno mein aakar mujhe kehti thi ke ma hamaari aatma bhatak rahi hai,hume insaaf chahiye.Mujhse raha nehi gaya,unki cheekho ne mujhe chain se jeene nehi diya aur phir maine tey kiya ke main unhe unke kiye ki sazaa zarur dungi.Jab unhone meri bachchiyo ko zeher diya tha to meri betiyo ko bhi kitni taklif hui hogi par vo ye baat kabhi bol nehi paayi,maine bhi inko aisa zeher diya jo apna asar bohotdheere dheere dikhaata hai aur bohot taklif deta hai.Jab vo dard se tarap rahi thi to mere dil ko bohot sukoon mil raha tha."In a declarative tone,she said,"Main jaanti hu ke maine jo kiya hai vo kanoon ke nazar mein gunaah hai,par mujhe is baat ka bilkul bhi afsos nehi hai.Aisa karke maine apni betiyo ko shraddhanjali di hai aur main jaanti hu ke mere jagah agar koi bhi aurat hoti to aisa hi karti."She concluded,"Ye kahaka insaaf hai ke aurat,jo ek mard ko is duniya mein laati hai,uske janam par itna maatam manaya jaata hai aur vo bhi aaj bhi.Beti pehle paida ho ya baad mein kya fark parta hai?Larka ho ya larki,har ma ke liye baat ek hi hoti hai na,dono ko hi to vo apne kokh mein 9 mahine paalti hai,unhe janam deti hai.Is tarah se agar larkiyo ko maar diya gaya to ek din aisa aayega ke is duniya mein ek bhi mard nehi bachega kyuki janam dene ki taaqat bhagwaan ne sirf aurto ko hi di hai.Larka aur larki dono hi kudrat ki den hai,agar kudrat ke niyam ko todoge to aaj jaha larkiyo ko ma ke kokh mein hi maar diya jaata hai na,ek din aisa aayega jab santulan banaane ke liye larko ko kudrat ki bali charni hogi.Larkiya podhe ki tarah hoti hai,jitna lagaaoge duniya utni hi khushaal banegi.Aaj ke zamaane mein larkiya larko se kisi maamle mein kam nehi hai.Please unhe jeene dijiye."The judge declared that thought whatever happened with her was wrong still she didn't have the right to take someones life but still considering her age,she was given life imprisonment.While the police were taking her out,Ratna's son and DIL came to meet her.Both of them took her blessings and the son said,"Jab maine suna ke aapne meri ma ko maar diya,tab mujhe wakayi mein bohot gussa aaya tha par ab mujhe sach mein aisa lag raha hai ke aise logo ko jeene ka koi haq nehi hai."Shilpa still apologized to them and then Mayank,Dhruv,Nupur and Anjali too came there and met Shilpa and she said to them,"Mujhse waada karo ke tum log mujhse jail mein kabhi milne nehi aaoge aur ha apne papa ka dhyaan rakhna,vo aaj sach mein bohot akele ho gaye hai."She blessed them all and then left in the police van.
[ 14 YEARS LATER ]
14 years passed by and the time arrived when Shilpa was to be released.In these 10 years,everything changed in the house.Rajendra apologized to everyone after knowing the truth of his mother and sister and accepted his grand daughters whole heartedly and as promised to Shilpa,no one ever went to meet her in jail and they did take care of Rajendra.Dhruv permanently settled in Indira after his mother went to jail and all the three kids grew up there.Rajendra loved his grand daughters over his sons and three of them too admired him.Everyone except the kids,went to the jail to bring Shilpa back.Among the 3 girls,Muskaan was the one who became very naughty and always playing pranks on everyone.She often got scolded but it never mattered to her.After long 14 years,when she saw them standing together to receive her,she had tears in her eyes.At first,Rajendra walked towards her and said,"Mujhe nehi pata hai ke main kis muh se tumse maafi maangu.Main hamesha se beta chahta tha sahi hai par maine kabhi apni betiyo se nafrat nehi kiya,aakhir vo meri bhi to bachchiya thi.Kehne ka haq to nehi hai ha par agar ho sake to mujhe maaf kar dena."He joined his hands in front of her but she held his hands and said,"Maafi to mujhe maangni chahiye,ma chahe jaisi bhi ho par vo hoti to ma hi hai na.Maine aisa karke aapke saath achcha nehi kiya.Mujhe ye haq nehi tha."He said,"Unhone bhi to ye nehi socha ke aulaad to aulaad hoti hai aur job hi tha vo mera bhi to tha,unhe bhi to mera khayaal nehi aaya.Unhe bhi to ye haq nehi tha."Shilpa lowered her head and then he said,"Jo beet gaya usey bhul jaao,chalo zindagi ko phir se shuru karte hai,apne potio ke saath.Tumhe pata hai Ananya ki shaadi ho gayi hai aur Divya ki bhi agle saal ho jaayegi.Tum ghar chalo sab intezaar kar rahe hai aur Muskaan,vo to itni sharaarti ho gayi hai k eagle saal uske board ka exam hai par vo din bhar ghar mein uchal kood karti rehti hai."Shilpa smiled and walked to her kids.Dhruv's hair turned grey and Mayank now had started using spects.Shilpa smiled and said,"Tujhpar buraapa aa hi gaya hai na Dhruv aur Mayank bhi to chashme pehenne laga hai."Four of them hugged Shilpa and they were very emotional.Nupur said,"Ab saari baate yaha nehi ghar par karenge.Vaha sab intezaar kar rahe hai.Ananya bhi aayi hai apne pati ke saath.Chaliye!!"Everyone left for home.Shilpa was given a grand welcome by her grand daughters.Shilpa was so overwhelmed to see the kids grown up and cared their faces and said,"Sab kitne bare ho gaye aur pata bhi nehi chala.Maine kisika bachpan nehi dekha."Ananya introduced her to her husband and both of them took their blessings.All took her inside but Shilpa said to the girls,"Tumhe pata hai na ke main kaha thi aur kyu gayi thi?"Muskaan replied,"Ha daadi hume sab pata hai,mamma ne bataya tha aur ye bhi bola ke main unhiki beti hu ur mujhe unse alag kar diya gaya tha,hume aapse koi shikaayat nehi hai daadi.We all are so proud of you."Shilpa had tears in her eyes and she again hugged three of her grand daughters.
The whole family never had to face any problem after that and seeing the change in Rajendra regarding his grand daughters and towards her,she was very happy.He too gave the full respect to Shilpa.Muskaan became the sole reason to solve all the problems of the family.She brought happiness in her parents' life completing them and their small family and everyone lived happily ever after.
EPILOGUE :-
[ 7 YEARS LATER ]
7 more years passed by and Muskaan grew up to be a beautiful young woman.Ananya and Divya both by that time had sons of their own of 3 and 4 years respectively.Now,the whole family was thinking of Muskaan's marriage but she was not at all ready to marry since she was too small to get married.One day,there was a family get together and as usual Ananya and Divya were running behind their kids to feed them.After they completed,they joined with others in the dining table.Dhruv said to Rajendra,"Dad vo ma keh rahi thi ke ab hume Muskaan ke liye larka dekhna shuru kar dena chahiye.Uski shaadi ki umar ho chuki hai."Muskaan narrowed her eyes and gave a keen look to Dhruv.Mayank said,"Ha dad bhabhi aur Nupur to in fact larka dekhna bhi shuru kar chuki hai."Muskaan exclaimed,"Papa aap mujhe ghar se bhagaana chahte hai??Pehle bol diya hota main hostel mein reh leti."Mayank replied,"Beta tujhe bhagaana koi nehi chahta hai.But teri dono behno ki shaadi bhi to isi age mein ho gayi thi na to teri ma bhi aisa hi chahti hai."Muskaan asked,"Mamma chahti hai to aap bhi unki ha mein ha milaane lage?Aap mere papa ho ke mamma ke?Maine keh diya hai na main abhi shaadi nehi karungi to bas nehi karungi."Just then,Nupur,Anjali and Shilpa joined the table.Nupur said,"Teri shaadi na karne ke chakkar mein main tujhe zindagi bhar kunwari to nehi bitha sakti na.Hai na papaji?"Rajendra agreed and said,"Bilkul sahi baat hai.Shaadi to ek na ek din sab larki ko karni hi parti hai."Muskaan glared at him and pinched on his hand and grinned,"Dadu!!!"Rajendra immediately changed his tuning and said,"Par shaadi mein larki ki marzi honi chahiye,zabardasti nehi karaani chahiye shaadi."Shilpa scolded him and said,"Aap chup rahiye!!Har cheez ka ek sahi waqt hota hai,vaise hi shaadi ka bhi hota hai aur aisa to nehi hai ke vo jo bhi karna chahti thi vo humne karne nehi diya.Isey pilot banna tha,ban gayi na,ab hamaari bhi isey sunni paregi."Muskaan raised up fom her chair and said,"Main nehi karungi shaadi aur agar is baare mein mere saath kisine zabardasti ki to main ghar se bhaag jaaungi."Rajendra said,"Ek kaam karo iske liye ghar jamai lekar aao,ye bhi khush aur tum log bhi khush."Muskaan started shouting that she didn't want to marry and all the ladies of the house too were desperate to get her married and the gents of the house,well they were neutral and just to stay away from the chaos,they opted to remain silent and complete their food.
