Ok, we had a fantastic series of discussions on Vyasa's original Mahabharata in the previous thread {| Doubts and Discussions about Mahabharata |}, so we continue the discussion in this thread.  The previous thread, as well as this one, are listed in {| Mahabharat Archive Mansion |} for ease of navigation.

Just to recap a few things from before:

  • Discussions on mythological topics outside the Mahabharata should go here - || Mythological Masti :: Doubts & Discussions ||.  As newer mythological shows surface, they may or may not have D&D threads, but the above one is perfectly appropriate about  questions which don't have other active D&D threads.
  • Same rule about sources - discuss them, even compare them for analysis, but no actual weighing in on which is more authentic, since that's a matter of faith & belief, and as per I-F rules, content disparaging any religion, sect or community is against the code of conduct here.  The idea of this thread is to purely to have objective discussions about mythology, sometimes, if not often, outside the scope of the serial, but related to Mahabharata.

Links of the previous threads elsewhere on IF discussing Mahabharata

Also, links to Vyasa's original epic - the KMG translation

Both are identical, although the latter may be clipped in some places.

So let's pick up where we left off

If the serial is gonna skip the vana parva episodes, I suggest that we discuss the real vana parva incidents here - things like Arjun's visit to Devalok, Bhima's encounter w/ Hanuman, how Ghatotkacha served Draupadi, Durvasa's encounter, the battle w/ the Gandharvas, Jayadrath's attempt on Draupadi, and so on.

In KmG, is draupadi mentioned to be an incarnation of any goddess?, or it is just a folk tale?

But Sree is not definitely Druga or Adishakti right?

btw if Draupadi was not born from a mother's womb, how does she have a navel.. Sorry for this silly question ðŸ˜³

Would Draupadi have raised the question of "who staked whom first?", if Yudhishthira had actually staked and lost her BEFORE he lost himself?
In other words, if Yudhishthira still had "rights" over her when he staked her, what would've been Draupadi's "question" under such circumstances?

Other questions still serve loop hole for arguments if not valid.. if he was her only husband, if he asked her other husband's permission, if wife is a husband's property etc..

What was the REAL reason for the Kurukshetra War - bringing "justice" for Draupadi, or was it to enable the Pandavas to get back their kingdom?

If the Kurukshetra War was really for bringing "justice" for Draupadi, then why did Krishna make one last-ditch peace effort by going to HP? As far as Draupadi is concerned, was Krishna really "oh-so-forgiving" towards the chandal chaukdi so as to go all the way to HP to "talk peace"?

as per me he did try to give a chance to avoid war.let us go with notion of him being a god.he gave a chance to humans to make choice and avoid destruction. one last chance. its like he showed two paths and asked which one will u choose.
now coming to just human perspective though there are few loopholes but the war was last choice left to get kingdom back,to earn their lost honor by pandavas.but yep the qu. does arise why wait for 13 years. pandavas too knew a big part of them was guilty and as per me they needed to b punished. but they (here especially yudi) knew consequences of war, it brings destruction, hence did not want to have that blame on their shoulder. it was a practical approach but yep the war happened whether u take it as for anything.

i'm not quoting any book or veda
but lets look at it like this!!!

Krishna as a god incarnation gives chances to all to turn to the right path!!
he asked for five kingdoms, then five villages, five palaces and so on.. but dury was soo furious that he said he wont give any land or property to pandavas not even a space to pin a needle!!!
after that the war began!!

if dury took his advice and gave pandavas wat they deserved there will be war since krishna himself said that a human being will not attain moksha until and unless he pays for his karma!!!

that is all those who have committed adharn will hve to pay for it !!!
he juz tried to avoid a clan wiped off from the face of the earth !!! eventhough he knew well wats in hold of time!!
