Actors and artists from the world's two largest film-producing industries have begun to collaborate more and more.
Irrfan Khan is slated to act with none other than Angelina Jolie in a film on the American journalist Daniel Pearl who was slain by terrorists in Pakistan. One another front, Chunkey Pandey will play a small but important role in the Hollywood movie 'Shantaram', starring Johnny Depp in the lead role. And who doesn't know of Aishwarya Rai co-starring with Hollywood stalwart Ben Kingsley and Colin Firth in Doug Lefler's movie The Last Legion
The writing is on the wall. There is more collaboration than competition between the two film industries on the either side of the Atlantic. And it is not just Indian actors who are lapping roles in Hollywood projects, artists from America and UK too are headed for the east.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell plays a pivotal role in New York based filmmaker Manish Gupta's movie Karma Confessions and Holi . The film is said to be based on the story of cross-cultural values and their clash in the present day US. Sushmita Sen and Randeep Hooda team up with Campbell and Drena De Niro (Robert De Niro's daughter) in the film.
And can you imagine Johnny Depp playing an Australian guy pursuing a criminal career in Mumbai. That's what Depp plays in 'Shantaram'. The film, to be made under the banner of Warner Bros, tells the story of an Australian who escapes from a prison and flees to Mumbai where he starts a criminal career with links to the Mumbai underworld. The movie will have Chunkey Pandey playing a film star.
On a different front, Angelina Jolie is set to come to India to shoot for Micheal Winterbottom's movie 'A Mighty Heart'. The film features two Bollywood actors – Irrfan Khan and Aly Khan. Irrfan shares a lot of footage with Jolie in the movie. Jolie plays Daniel Pearl's wife Mariane and Irrfan plays a Pakistani agent named Captain who helped her in trying to secure the release of her abducted husband from the terrorists.
And if all this is not enough, there is a strong possibility of Sushmita Sen co-starring with Richard Gere in a Hollywood movie.
Well, Naomi Campbell, Johnny Depp and Richard Gere. Could we ask for more?
