There are pumpkin shaped vases behind Varad's head and Aditi's head in the below pictures. I also remember Jaya referring to bhopla, meaning pumpkin, in one of the episodes.

Pumpkins are big and heavy. These are placed behind their heads. "big-headed" and "heavy-headed" are the words that come to my mind. May be it means they are both not seeing sense and acting in a stupid, arrogant manner. Though their spherical shape indicates fullness, pumpkins have a hollow inside. So may be Varad and Aditi are not what they appear on the outside. We now know that Aditi is not the miss goody-two-shoes that she appears to be. Varad also may not be calm, sensible, responsible, progressive and wise man that he shows himself to be.
Pumpkins are also used to ward off evil spirits. Like Neha said in an interview, may be she will bring out a lot of things in the open and actually help Ashlok. Probably these two characters may help ward off evil, though they are not entirely good.
Pumpkin is mentioned in the Cinderella story, where it is transformed into a carriage by fairy godmother but after midnight it changes back to pumpkin again. This indicates that something must be achieved in a time frame and the time is running out. Something is weighing on their minds.
