Are there really girls in real life like character of gunjan..i mean from the character of gunjan we hv seen tht she is dying to go abroad..to.be honest i dont see anything khas in living abroad..i mean i hv been living in england for abt 10 yrs or more and hv only been back home like 2 times..and whenever i go i just dont wana come back to uk..relationships abroad are somewhere lost..no one here values relationships and there back home everyone lives peacefully together..its just so fun..i mean i agree tht living abroad gives u many opportunities but relationships become lost in the middle of those opportunities..and abroad no one has time for anyone.there are just too busy in earning money and statuts..bt back home everyone hs time for everyone..i dont know how many of u will agree with me but i dont see anything special in living abroad

Actually yes. There are many people in rural areas in India (especially in Punjab and Haryana) who are quite obsessed with this "going to abroad" thing. For them it's a very huge thing to work or settle in abroad.

Im from Canada, born and raised, so for me it's home...it's what I know.

What I don't understand is this crazy unrealistic view that people like Gunjan living in India have of what it means to live abroad! If you don't have an education and you can't speak the language...than you're dependent on your family, and sometimes, we've all heard the horror stories...these people get taken advantage of and have nowhere to turn. That's whats so sad about it all...in India they'd have their family at least.

I think it has to do with the craze of the big city dreams and luxuries. A lot of people fall prey to that idea that everything's going to be better if they live abroad. 🤔

And I guess that's the thing looming over Gunjan's head.

There are loads of people like that. I've witnessed this stuff happening first hand.

As someone who was born and raised in a western country I don't understand why so many south asians are so desperate to come to America/ the UK. They have this weird idea that life here is somehow better and easier.

Whilst there are certain benefits to living in MEDC's most people who migrate from South Asia to the west (currently) will have a more difficult life here. Jobs are difficult to come by, the jobs that are available need a minimum Maths and English GCSE's in the UK, and High School Diploma/GED in the US, which a lot of native people don't even have.

The only jobs that are available to migrants are paid at or below minimum wage which isn't enough to survive on.

Highly qualified migrants are either (1) not allowed to work in the country they migrate to because it's now difficult to get a working visa, or (2) exploited by being forced to work at or below minimum wage illegally or (3) find that their qualifications hold no value in the country they have migrated to and are left stuck.

I guess it's a case of 'the grass is always greener', but seriously there's nothing really special about the US or UK, you can build a better life for yourself in South Asia if you put in as much determination, time, and effort as you would to move abroad.

I actually know a person who paid almost 30K just to move to the UK enrolled in a university and couldn't afford the foreign student fees so was forced to drop out. This person had no job, because they legally were not allowed to work as they didn't have a work visa, and no where to live. They spent all their savings on moving to the UK and in the end were left broke and homeless with no options to proress. It would have been better if they used the 30K to set up a business, or go to a good uni in South Asia.

I think wherever we live, one should always be smart and become capable enough to understand the difference between good and bad...
Girls in india who are obsessed with the abroad thing need to understand that obsession blurs one's mind and makes you make wrong and stupid decisions...

I guess the only way to stop the crime of luring girls to go abroad with regards to marriage or stardom, people in India should create awareness and educate girls in rural areas...

It's a good effort by the veera team to spread this message as the medium of television in India is big and CAN bring lots of changes, hopefully!
