Back then, Govinda was a bigger star than Aamir. In fact, Aamir was the least of the stars amongst the Khans, Sunny Deol, Ajay Devgan, and Govinda. He was above Akshay and Sunil--who were getting their feet firmly placed after Mohra.

Aamir, up until the multiplex boom in 2006, had only three Super Hit movies in Lagaan, Dil, and QSQT and one BB/ATBB in Raja Hindustani. He didn't even have that many Hits. Ishq is the only one I can remember--being a clean Hit and that was when Ajay was bigger than Aamir.

DCH is another movie that people think was a huge Hit back then but in reality, it was a rage in the urban cities and a disaster elsewhere.
