Faisal's interview to Rediff on doing Maharana Pratap:

Meet TV's 14-year-old Maharana Pratap:

Mumbai lad Faisal Khan, who shot to fame after winning DID Li'l Masters 2, recently made his acting debut on the small screen as the young Maharana Pratap in the historical show Bharat Ka Veer Putra-Maharana Pratap on Sony Entertainment Television.

The Class IX student of Meera's Academy in Mumbai, son of an auto-rickshaw driver, considers himself lucky to have got this opportunity.

During a break in shooting, an excited Faisal Khan talks to Rajul Hegde about the show and his dreams of becoming an actor.

How did you become an actor?

I am very passionate about dancing but it has always been my dream to become an actor.

Hrithik Roshan has been my idol and I want to dance and act like him. I want to be a star some day.

I auditioned for the role (in Maharana Pratap) and I got selected. I feel very happy to have got the chance to display my acting talent as people have always known me for my dancing.

Which is your favourite Hrithik Roshan movie?

I have watched all his movies. I loved his performance as Rohit in Koi...Mil Gaya. He is a complete package with good acting, dancing, good looks and amazing body.

Since this is your acting debut, did you do any kind of workshop?

I have been taking lessons to handle the sword and sword fighting. I practise horse-riding every day. I like both, but horse riding is something I enjoy the most.

So what kind of preparation did you do to get into the skin of the character and deliver the heavy-duty dialogues?

I have to speak chaste Hindi with some Sanskrit words like avashya, kathin etc, which is difficult. I read the book of Maharana Pratap to understand his character.

Initially I was shy to deliver the dialogues, but the director supported me. He advised me to rehearse at least 10 times and then give the best shot. That's how I slowly got the confidence and got the hang of it.

I had to work on my body language to get the attitude of my character Maharana Pratap. For instance, the way he sits, stands, talks and carries the costumes -- all these are very important.

How will you handle your shooting schedule and school?

My summer vacations are on, so I haven't missed school. After my vacations I am sure I will manage (smiles).

How has life changed after you won the reality show? How do people react when they see you act?

Everyone recognises me and appreciates my dance wherever I go. I feel happy when people want to get pictures clicked with me and ask for my autograph.

The rest is all the same. My father still drives an auto-rickshaw. I gave the auditions and got selected for this show during vacations, so I haven't met any of my friends or relatives to know their reactions.

To be honest, I haven't seen the hoardings of my show, which are put out in Mumbai as I have been shooting in Aamgaon (Talashri, Maharashtra). I will check them out once I go back to Mumbai (smiles). All of us are staying in a guesthouse next to the set.

Do you get to watch your show at least?

Yes, I watch it every day and it's one of my favourite shows apart from dance reality shows.

What did you do with the prize money?

I gave it to my parents and they have invested it. I have bought an ipad for myself.

DNA article on actresses returning after break on TV, excerpt on Rajshri Thakur:

Rajshri Thakur
Rajshri Thakur, best remembered for her role as the dusky Saloni fighting her way through a society biased against dark complexioned girls, returned with Bharat Ka Veer Putra Maharana Pratap. She is playing queen Jaywantabai, King Uday's Singh's wife and mother of Maharana Pratap. After Saat Phere, the actress who got married took a long break save for cameos in two shows Bidaai and Agle Janam Bhi Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo. The historical got her interested as she has a fascination for history. "When the offer for Maharana... came to me, I was excited. Jaywantabai, the character I essay, is the biological mother of Maharana Pratap and a strong character. She is the one who moulded him as a warrior as Uday Singh did not take any interest. Also, her character has different shades," she had said.

Thanks Cherry. I am trying to post those which have not been posted in the forum yet.😊 Here is one from producer before show went on air, from The Pioneer:

Battleground dram

Monday, 27 May 2013 | Pioneer

Abhimanyu Singh, the producer of Bharat Ka Veer Putra-Maharana Pratap, tells D Kaushik that the warrior's life has interesting aspects that need to be told in an engaging story

What most of us know about Maharana Pratap is his horse, Chetak, and battle of Haldighati, says Abhimanyu Singh, adding that the life of "one of the first freedom fighters of India" has more interesting facts to be told. And that was the reason that he chose him as a subject for his next period drama on TV. Bharat Ka Veer Putra-Maharana Pratap will go on air today on Sony. The series, explains Singh, will feature the early days of Maharana, his childhood and family. "Love for freedom was in Rana's blood as he was the grandson of Rana Sangha and the son of Maharana Udai Singh, the ruler after whose name Udaipur was named. Rana faced hardships but he never gave up his love for freedom. We are telling a story of one of the bravest families in the Indian story and the reason why I chose Maharana Paratap was because I feel people really know less about him and his story is an inspiration for every generation," adds Singh.

The producer says that there wasn't much that required to be done to make the series relevant to the modern times. "It is a relatable story and can be of any era. Through the serial we won't be just projecting the historical facts, giving an account of the battles he fought, we will bring out the personality of the warrior who fought for dignity. Most of us have heard about his stories, so he is not an alien character, but what people have heard or read about him is less or repetitive. If you see the previous historical dramas " like Veer Shivaji or Jhansi Ki Rani, you will notice that I have always chosen popular characters as subjects, as people are interested in knowing their stories. I am packaging the story as per contemporary demands," shares Singh.

The serial is already in news for its grand sets, royal costumes and jewellery designs. Designer Neerushaa has designed the costumes and jewellery for the show. Some light-weight dresses have been designed for Faisal Khan, who will be playing young Maharana in the show. "But the sets, jewellery and costumes are only a part of the packaging. I have always maintained that content is the king," says Singh.

While Sony has launched Maharana Pratap, there will be Jodha Akbar on Zee TV and Mahabharat on Star Plus airing soon. "History has always been in demand, but how you present the history matters a lot," adds Singh.
