Also, here, because no one else is around, and I have nothing better to do and since we all love inspiring women (when they're actually inspiring and not fake that is 😆)
Infinite List of Incredible Women: Ada Lovelace {1815-1852}
+ Born in the 19th Century to a poet father and mathematician mother, Ada Lovelace embraced both rational thinking and artful, emotional expression. Her father, English Lord Byron, separated from her mother when Ada was only a month old, and died when she was eight. Her mother thought him insane, and attempted to squash any poetical inclinations by educating her in mathematics and science. By age seventeen it was clear she had a talent for numbers.
Through a mutual friend she met inventor Charles Babbage, and she became very interested in his Difference Engine and Analytical Engine, which were a sort of general purpose computer. These engines however mostly just crunched numbers, and Babbage struggled to get funding for his research as no-one (except for Ada) really saw the point of them. Even Babbage himself couldn't see their full potential - he never thought his mechanical engines would progress from mere calculations to the computers we use today. Ada, however, made that conceptual leap, and wrote extensively on their purpose and mechanics. In her notes is what is widely credited as the world's first computer program.
The Ada Initiative runs an annual event in October called "Ada Lovelace Day". The Initiative's goal to raise awareness and participation of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
