She was Adi Shakti... Para Shakti the supreme power. She had had some responsibility to this creation which was utmost important to her. What was the reason of Adi Shakti's Sati birth?? She had to achieve and attain her Lord her Shiv. Who was not only her love but also her other half...if she is energy then he is the container. If she is the heat he is the fire. If she is the light he is the sight...He and She together they are the reason of this world's act and consciousness. Shiva and Shakti they both are invisible, inaudible, unspeakable ...they are beyond our sense. But when they come to us as their approachable form we fond them like Saumya Shiv and Sati/Parvati...
So to achieve her Lord in approachable form Adi Shakti took birth as Sati, Dakshayani. She was aware of her father's nature his mis behavior towards his Lord Shiv...but as dutiful daughter she didn't tell anything. But during the time of Daksh Yajna...in DKDM they really twisted the tales.
Not only as per Minaxi's post...according to Devi Purana too Devi Sati asked Shiv to give her his consent to go to the Yajna to establish Shiv's supremacy as God like Brahma and Vishnu. Because Shiv was Bholenath and Ashutosh. He had had no problem if this creation forget him as their God...and if Prajapati's Yajna got fulfilled and other demigods along with God Vishnu and Brahma accpeted the Yajnabhaag or habi in the absent of Shiv then it would be proven that Shiv is not God...How could Adi SHakti let this be happened??
She and Mahadev are not only Destructor but also help in the creation and nurture of this creation...how could she accept this?? So she went the Yajna sthal and forbade Prajapati to do the Yajna without Shiv...but as Daksh's ego and pride was biggest from everything he insulted Shiv repeatedly. Sati when he taunted her as his wife didn't react but when he direct insult her hisband she couldn't hold her anger...her extreme energy came out as Maha Kali...remember what she said in DKDM too..."Main chahoon toh tatskhan tumahara badh kar sakti hoon. Kintu tum iss deh ke Pita ho...tumhe hatya kar ke main karm ke bandhan mein nahin bandh sakti..." Even the Supreme Goddess couldn't deny her boundary as human...committed Prityuhatya and Matruhatya is the biggest crime...the sinner can't be forgotten...and in Every father there is Mahadev's part(as he is Jagat Pita) just ike every mother has the part of Adi Shakti(as she is Jagat Mata) so how could she insult her Mahadev by killing her father??And also for the child her parents are her God...so she instead of killing Daksh she sacrificed her mortal body which was created by her egoistic father Daksh...and she is Trikaldarshi...she knew the past, present and future...so she was aware what will happen next...remember she told..."Tumhare ahankar ka phal ab samast shrushti ko bhugatna hoga"...she knew her Lord who will be Rudra will destroy everything which was created by her egoistic father as well as her father...and by this the whole creation will learn the lesson...how bad is ones ego and pride?? And what is the importance of the Mahadev the Destroyer...
