I don't understand why everyone's so sad after last episode, I'm actually quite happy. But before you start throwing eggs at me I shall explain myself through a bunch of observations I made, just really wanted to share my thoughts and get it off my chest (:
Observation 1:
Before Friday's episode, we were only shown Asad's POV, what he reflected and thought about Zoya when he's alone. For example, after the Akram drama, he was the one sitting in his room and having flashbacks about Zoya. This was shown again after the Mangalpur drama as well, when he kept reflecting on the events. In fact, he even spoke his thoughts out loud, that staying away from her would be better. Which means he knew very well that he'd fallen for Zoya, and was just choosing not to act on it out of denial.
On the other hand, they had never shown us Zoya's thoughts about Asad, we only knew whatever she voiced out to him. In fact, there was always an ongoing debate on the forum about whether or not Zoya even had feelings for Asad, and if she did, did she know it herself or was she just deluded by oblivion. Even during the bhaang-laced confession scene, Asad's confession was so beautiful, and so deep, and Zoya's confession was just that she liked him too, there was hardly any depth to it. It made me wonder if Zoya's love for Asad was even half as strong as Asad's love for her.
But in Friday's episode, we can all FINALLY agree that Zoya has definitely fallen for Asad, and that she knows it. As she stood there staring at Asad hug Tanveer, they finally showed us her thoughts, her flashbacks. We all finally know that Zoya's feelings are just as strong. This is already a step forward! Zoya is finally out of oblivion.
Observation 2:
Granted, Asad was worried for Tanveer, and he was relieved to see her fine. He expressed his relief by hugging her. But when he saw Zoya's Ipad, there was sheer and utter panic on his face, followed by frantic searching on his part and his eyes teared up, in stark contrast to his earlier behaviour with Tanveer. Asad's reaction to danger to Zoya's well-being was a lot stronger in contrast to that of Tanveer's well-being.
Observation 3:
In the car ride home, we had all noticed that Asad's eyes were only seeking Zoya, throughout the journey. When I re-watched the scene, I realized that Zoya had glanced at Asad only at the beginning, after which she kept looking at Tanveer sporadically. At the end of the scene, it is shown that Asad is staring at Zoya through the rear view mirror, Zoya is looking (or rather, glaring) at Tanveer, and Tanveer is giving a passing glance to Asad. There you have it my friends, a love triangle! And it cannot get more triangular than that.
So why is this good news? Well it's obvious that in Asad's world, Zoya still comes first. And Zoya fails to see this, she doesn't catch Asad staring at her even once, because she was too busy getting distracted by her own jealousy (Tanveer). She had taken Asad for granted all along, assuming that she was the only one who could be so close to him, despite not being his family member. Once again, strong emotions shown by Zoya, which were not shown prior to this episode.
Observation 4:
Before this episode, we all already knew that Asad cares deeply for Zoya. It was shown in great depth during the Mangalpur episodes, and they even showed us his thoughts when he yelled at Zoya at his office, just to protect her from getting harmed. He expressed this care for Zoya verbally for the first time, when he was mad at her for disappearing without informing anyone. But it should be noted that he did it in a fit of anger, he didn't mean to reveal his concern to her. Zoya brushed his concern off by changing the subject then, taking it for granted once again. She only brought it up again when he asked for her abbu's photographs, that too just to mock him and his feelings.
But this time, Asad came to Zoya's room on his own accord, despite being so mad at Zoya mere hours ago. And for the first time ever, Asad expressed his concern to Zoya willingly. WILLINGLY being the keyword here. He was not swayed by emotions, neither was he being egged on by Zoya. He just felt like telling her that he was worried for her, and so he did. Once again, a step in the positive direction! Asad is no longer afraid of expressing a portion of his feelings for Zoya directly to her, even if it is just his concern for now.
Observation 5:
I know a lot of people are upset with the way Asad introduced Zoya to Tanveer. But let's weigh his options. Is Zoya his girlfriend? Nope. Did he confess to Zoya that he had feelings for her? As far as he could remember, nope. Did Zoya tell him that she has feelings for him? Once again, as far as he could remember, nope. Are they friends? Nope, never did they shake hands and decide to become friends. Hell, they aren't even on a first name basis. So what else could Asad have possibly introduced her as, except what she truly was, a guest in their house. Who had made a comfortable place in his heart as well, but he wasn't about to reveal that to Tanveer without revealing it to Zoya herself first right? (At least in a non-intoxicated state). I don't get the hate for Asad here, poor guy said nothing wrong.
Conclusion?
Guys, Zoya is finally waking up! She has realized that Asad isn't going to be at her beck and call anymore, contrary to her earlier belief that Asad's life revolves around her. She may have been oblivious to her own feelings prior to this, but she wasn't oblivious about Asad's. She knew that she could easily manipulate Asad into following her to highway 13 if she made a small fuss about it, she hadn't a doubt it her heart. She also kept probing him about whether or not he was jealous when she was talking to Robert, another sign that she knew he had a soft spot for her. But she couldn't be bothered to do anything about it since there was no rush anyway. But she finally sees competition, Zoya is gonna realize that she can't and shouldn't have taken Asad for granted.
As for Asad, he's a mess. His mother and Zoya are supporting the very man he's against, his brother has decided that he hates him and the girl he's fallen for is not someone he had envisioned for in his life, and so he's hurting himself by trying to wash her out of his hair. He's a broken and tired man, and has taken some comfort in his old friend who has turned up. I don't see what's so wrong.
The upcoming episodes, though heartbreaking, will be worth a watch for sure. I'm ready for this emotional roller coaster... are you? (:
