I was just trying to defend Punnis personality and her idea of a life partner. Although, I understand marraige needs to be based on trust and care for each other, but there is nothing wrong in having certain requirements for your partner? Some want to marry orphans, some want to marry really poor people... whats wrong if you want to marry a rich person is probably what PR writers want to show 😉
Punni dreams of a rich lifestyle - costly jewellery etc. And she's sees that dream come true by marrying a rich guy like Mallik. For the same reason she was interested in Arjun too. She is not the "romantic" dreamer...getting married to someone who loves her for what she is etc. Her pre-condition to marraige is that the guy has to be RICH.
There is a strong similiarity between Ovi, Purvi and Punni in their basis for marraige - Ovi is using Arjun as her "sole property" , Purvi is using Onir as "Mr Understanding" , Punni is using Mallik as "you make my rich dream come true". All think of marraige as a "Samjhota"
These women are beig shown very insecure in PR:
- Ovi has low self-esteem and that gap gets filled for her by being Mrs Kirloskar.
- Purvi is insecure about her mom being dumped by her family and sees that gap filling up by stepping out of her love relation with Arjun
- Punni is insecure about leading a life as a middle class woman and sees that gap filing only by marrying a rich person like Mallik
Just my two cents ... trying to understand what PR writers are showing us ... 😉..
Hi Pranati !
I agree with a lot of your post. While i am the most foolish romantic who ever lived, more practical girls marry for other reasons. All throughout history women (and oft times men as well) marry for money, for security, power and prestige. It's been suggested so many times that both Ovi/Arjun and Purvi/Onir should just adjust to loveless marriages (yes Onir is very nice guy and loves Purvi but is not mutual)... why then is it wrong for Punni to marry for reasons other than love?
Provided that Mittal (or Malki - honestly i am confused about his name) is sincere about wanting to marry her, they should live happily ever after. Why not? Punni's desire for money is from Manju and Rasika, her aai and aaji ...she can hardly be blamed. There wasn't a lot of love as we want to see from either woman to the children Punni and Ruchi. So let's let her be happy.
I agree with you Pranati that all 3 girls are insecure though maybe for a little different reasons. I think Purvi has low self esteem...for the reason you mention, plus feeling like a "substitute" for the real thing (the "real" daughter & family of Archana)...and thus couldn't feel worthy of receiving the love she really wanted.
Ovi, i'm not sure i would say has low self esteem...she is insecure about her relationship with Arjun as well she should be. She doesn't seem too bright imo. If someone says they don't love you and love someone else, that should be easy to understand. Yet she stamps, pouts, throws tantrums because the person is doing exactly what they honestly said...they love someone else.
I don't think her "marriage" continuance is due to no self respect, i think it has to do with control. She wants to control Arjun's emotions and force him to love her.
And yes, Purvi, in her way also is trying to control Arjun's emotions.
btw, what is Samjhota ? What does that word mean?
Nice to see you dear !
