Taran Adarsh's 2012 favorites

The curtain has fallen on 2012. Though the year had its share of highs and lows -- I am talking strictly from the business point of view -- what you can't ignore is that the volume of business hit an all-time high this year. Also, there were too many success stories this year. More than the previous years. Besides, the year had the maximum number of films joining the 100 cr Club. The biggest hit was EK THA TIGER, which reached close to the total accumulated by 3 IDIOTS. AGNEEPATH, HOUSEFULL 2, ROWDY RATHORE, BOL BACHCHAN, BARFI!, JAB TAK HAI JAAN, SON OF SARDAAR and now DABANGG 2 also hit the ton in the domestic market.

The year witnessed several hits too, like KAHAANI, VICKY DONOR, JANNAT 2, ISHAQZAADE, COCKTAIL, KYA SUPER KOOL HAI HUM, JISM 2, RAAZ 3, OMG - OH MY GOD, ENGLISH VINGLISH, STUDENT OF THE YEAR and 1920 - EVIL RETURNS. What's credible is that most of them had solid [read innovative] stories to tell, which only goes to prove that the audience is game for hardcore masala as well as innovative concepts told within commercial parameters. Then there were moderate successes as well: EK MAIN AUR EKK TU, TERE NAAL LOVE HO GAYA, PAAN SINGH TOMAR, HATE STORY, GOW 1, HEROINE, TALAASH and KHILADI 786.

All in all, it was a great year!


The award season is about to begin and though 2012 had many actors/actresses eyeing the various awards thanks to their bravura performances, let me share *my favorites* with you:-

Best Music: Pritam - COCKTAIL
Best First-time Director: Gauri Shinde - ENGLISH VINGLISH
Most Innovative Concept: S.S. Rajamouli - MAKKHI
Best Comeback: Sridevi - ENGLISH VINGLISH
Best Song: 'Ishq Wala Love' - STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Best Newcomer/s - Male: Siddharth Malhotra & Varun Dhawan - STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Best Newcomer - Female: Ilena D'Cruz - BARFI!
