His debut film as a hero, Maine Pyaar Kiya has become one of the biggest hits of the century. This film presented a romantic style not often seen during that time. Salman played the role of Prem (which later went on to become his favourite on-screen name), a boy who just wanted to be friends with a girl. His dialogue, "Dosti main no thank you, no sorry" and the signature "Friends" were a rage after the movie was released and still are very present today. This film was based on an idea that Salman gave. Playing his first police officer role on screen, Salman played the role of a serious officer who falls in love with the daughter of a criminal. The criminal attempts to reform his ways, but his men kill Salman's father and frame the criminal. How Salman finds his father's killers and what happens after that, forms the rest of the rest. The best part of this film can easily be said to be the song Kabhi Tu Chhalia Lagta Hai. The song's lyrics are written with movie names and it is a one-of-a-kind song. The first film in which Salman and Sanjay appear together, this movie is about two brothers falling in love with the same girl. And no, that isn't the full plot. In the movie, Sanjay plays the role of a lame orphan, who Salman's parents adopt and treat as their own son. He is a great writer who rights under the pen name, Sagar, and the girl is a huge fan and lover of Sagar. Scared that he will be rejected because he is lame, Sanjay tells his younger brother Salman to act as if he is Sagar, thus creating the real story. Madhuri and Salman's second movie together, this movie has all the emotions you need and want. You can cry, you can laugh, you can get angry, you can smile, you can celebrate a wedding, you can sit on the edge of seat in tension, and you can enjoy a true Salman and Sooraj Barjatya movie. Yep that's Hum Aapke Hain Kaun for you. Salman was touted for his role in the movie and the movie soon went on to become the fourth-highest earner of all time and it also won 5 Filmfare and 1 National Award. One of the highlights of the film was its masti-bhara song, Didi Tera Devar Deewana, which is a staple song for all weddings since then. The first Salman and SRK movie, this movie is a mix of a musical, religion, and action. It was a film on reincarnation of 2 brothers who are killed by their Kans mama. They return as strong "warriors" who fall in love and also kill their Kans mama. Rakhee's line "mere Karan Arjun aayenge" may be ridiculed today, but the movie was a huge success and was the second biggest hit of the year. Salman was nominated for the Best Actor Award at Filmfare. His bhangra was most appreciated in the movie as it really showed the calibre of Salman's dancing skills, which he and others may not have noticed before.

A huge success and the movie for which Salman got nominated for Filmfare Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Jeet is about a criminal, Sunny Deol, who falls in love with a girl and then the girl falls in love with Salman. The girl's and Salman's fathers are both criminals and finally hire Sunny to kill Salman. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge

Next up is another Salman-Karishma movie. Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge was funny, emotional, and heart-wrenching all in one. Salman was the loving Raja, who fell in love with Karishma the moment he saw her photo. To win her heart, he traveled with her to Europe where he did everything possible to woo her, including his cousin and friends in the plan. After she falls in love with him, he now has to convince her 3 uncles that they are made for each other with hilarious results.

Salman, Preity, and Rani star in this very lovely film. Salman is a singer trying to make his way in the big city of Mumbai. Rani is the daughter of a wealthy family who falls in the love with the wrong guy, tries to commit suicide, but is saved by Salman even though she goes into a coma. Rani's family mistake him to be the lover and take him and Rani to their house. Salman falls in love with Rani's best friend, Preity. The rest of the story is about this very weird love triangle.

Salman and Akshay's very famous comedy movie, this movie is sure to enthrall you with its very hilarious jokes and the fight between Salman and Akshay as they both try to win Priyanka's heart. 10 Ka Dum Season 1, 2

Salman's premier on television came with Dus Ka Dum, the Indian version of the popular international reality game show, Power of 10. The film was supposed to be directed by Shirish Kunder, but he opted out after Joker and the producer, Sajid Nadiadwala, replaced him as a director. This will be his first directorial venture.
