Chapter Five: Shiv 'Sati together

"Main kayi sahasra jeevan issi roop main lena chahungi"

Shiv and Sati the divine couple and right now they were the happiest couple on the earth. They were sat together holding each other hands on a rock in the middle of the 'Saraswati' river. Sati rememebered the previous night's incident. Her eldest sister Vijaya came to hear her wedding news. But she tried to sour her and her Lord's relationship by creating misunderstanding during the 'Vojan Samaroh'. Sati was provoked previous night very much by Vijaya when she started serving the food to all the invitees along with Ganas and Pretas. As Vijaya already excited the Ganas and Pretas by describing the delicious foods they were going to have They misbehaved with Sati and snatched the serving bowl from her hand. She was scared and disturbed running to her husband, her Lord and returned with him. But her Lord made the situation light and happier again when he himself seated in the middle of them and asked her to seat besides him. Then He fed her by his hand and so did she. After that everyone became so happy and cheerful that they all started eating their food from the same vessels where the Ganas and Pretas had their food. She felt so relieved then. After that today morning her father created lots of problem for them . At first he asked Shiv to be his 'Griha-jamata' but Shiv left the decision to Sati by saying she was his wife, his other half and she had the right only to take decision for him. Sati refused his father's proposal . Then after sometime Daksh invited her and her Lord Shiv in his 'Yajna' but rejected them to seat with him in the same row of the'Yajna" by saying Shiv 'Asanskari". So Shiv and Sati sat on a different place together in the middle of 'Yajna sthal' and silently saw everything. After finishing the 'Yajna' Yajnapal gana emerged from the holy fire and offered theirs as well as Shiv's Yajna bhaag to her husband Shiv. Thus made Daksh very much angry and after that Shiv told by not taking part in the Yajna he and Sati would be the part of the Yajna as they mentally connected with the every rituals by the 'Yoga Shakti'.

When Shiv and Sati asked Daksh and Prasuti's permission to leave for Kailash Prasuti Took them here at 'Saraswati' river bank for 'Nadipujan'. After they finished the 'Nadi-pujan' Devi Saraswati herself came out from the river and greeted her and Shiv for their happy marriage life. As the return gift Shiv gave a boon to Devi Saraswati that her river form would become a pious and pure. Whoever would take bathe in her and offer the water to his ancestors would be freed from all his sin. And that place would be called as"Teertharaj". Devi Saraswati disappeared after saying that their love story would be eternal and divine one in the history. Then they both looked their image on the still water and then looked at each other eyes. Seeing this Sati's sisters and Prasuti left her alone with her Lord Shiv and walked away from there with Nandi.

Reminding everything Sati was so happy that a sweet smile automatically came to her face. Her Lord also was happy to see her happy. She asked her why did he behave rudely to her? He replied that he didn't want to lose her so he thought his rejection may keep her safe. Sati replied back that his rejection made her determined to attain him forever.

The sun set at west side. Shiv and Sati were now in the forest at the 'Saraswati' river bank. Sati looked at her shyly, sweetly but passionately and her Lord also looked her back in the same manner. Sati was blushing to have his attention so she shyly tried to walk away from him. But Shiv left his trident and came to her and grabbed her arm and turned her back to him and caressed her face with his fingers. She shyly stared at him.The whole environment became so lovely. The breeze was blowing and the dew drops from the leaves were fallen on Shiv's shoulder.The tree were showering flowers on the first romantic and divine couple of this Universe. Some flowers were struck by Sati's hair(she loosened her long beautiful hair in that night) and a purple flower was stick on her Lord's chest. Sati couldnot tolerate the flower's fortune and out of jealousy she removed it from her Lord's chest(once she said"Shiv keval mere hai, keval mere). Seeing this Shiv came close to her and smilingly asked

Shiv:Aapne aap se irsha kaisi Sati?

Sati:Irsha?? Aapne aap se??

Shiv:Yeh samast prakriti tuumse hi utpanna huyee hai. Tum Adi-Shakti ho yeh sara sansar tum he to ho.Tumne pucha than a ki tumhare viyog main kaise rehta tha? Main tumhe inn prakriti ke beech mein dekhta tha.Iske pratyek roop mein mujhe tum he dikhai deti thi. Yeh samast prakriti sakshi hai mere birah ka ,inhe smaran hai mere ekakipan ka.Issiliye aaj jab humara Milan hone jaa raha hai toh samast shrushti humare sath ek hona chahti hai.

And then they embraced each other strongly. Sati closed her eyes and felt her Lord's presence by her body, heart and soul.Then she opened her eyes and lifted it to look at her Lord Shiv's eyes and became shy. So she loosened her hold and shyly advanced from her Lord to the riverside again. Shiv again came near to her and lifted her face up and removed a hair lock from her face while his other hand was arrested in Sati's both hands' fist. Then they hugged again.This time Sati just leaned on his shoulder and closed her eyes feeling the comfort and safety and warmth. Now Shiv broke the silence

Shiv:Sati ab tumhe Bhavan chalna chahiye. Idhar Pratyushbela ka agaman ho raha hai udhar tumhari Vidaai ka samay ho raha hai.

Sati:Kya hum kuch skhan au raise nahi reh sakte?

Shiv: Mujhese kuchi skhan ki duri tumhe itni pida de rahi hai to apne parivar se vida lete samay kya hoga tumhara?

Sati:Kasht avashya hoga kintu Kailash jane ke anand ke age yeh kuch v nahi.

She confidently said that taking her Lord's hands within her hands.

Everyone from the Daksh Bhavan even Daksh himself bid her good bye with tearful eyes. Then Sati left her father's house and his wealth and started to walk together with her Lord, Shiv. On their way they stopped at Rishi Dadhichi's Ashram. Where Rishi Dadhichi and his family welcomed them overwhelmingly . Here Sati's 4 uncles and Praajapati Daksh's 4 younger brothers(Sanat, Sanatan,Sadanand and Sanat kumar known as 'Sanakadi Rishi') came to do Shashtrarth with him as Rishi Atharvan tried to introduce the 4^th Veda. So in Devi Saraswati's presence they started Shashtrarth with Mahadev and soon they were defeated by Mahadev. Then Mahadev explain in every Kalpa Brahmadev did his creation again by the 4 Vedas. But after ending previous Kalpa when Brahmadev was in his deep sleep(it is called yognidra) asur Hayagreeb eloped those Veda. Then Lord Vishnu took his 'Matsya avatar' and fought with Hayagreeb and returned back 3 Vedas from him. And Hayagreeb in wounded state came in Mahadev's shelter.As he dank the Vedas so by that good will he was given a boon by Shiv that he would be born as Rishi Atharvan and would introduce the 4^th Veda to this world. And after Shiv's explanation Brahmadev himself came in the Ashram and confirmed that the 4^th Veda was completely authentic and ejected by his mouth and asked them to give it the 4^th Veda status. Shiv named the 4^th Veda after Rishi Atharvan "Atharva Veda". The Sanankadi Rishi blessed Sati by saying that choosing Mahadev as her husband she made them and their family proud and left . Devi Saraswati asked a boon to Shiv that whenever Mahadev and Adi-Shakti's son would be born she got the first right to take him in her lap. Mahadev granted her wish and then he left the Ashram taking Sati and Nandi with him. In between the forest Nanadi was sent to fetch water for Sati by his Master as he noticed that Sati felt tired . They took rest by sitting on a log. When suddenly they heard a scream. It seemed to be Nandi's voice . So Sati forcibly sent her Lord Shiv to rescue Nanadi and she agreed till his return she would be stay there. But after sometime of Mahadev's leaving she surprisingly noticed that her Lord Shiv was back. And at the same time another person looked absolutely like her Lord was also came.Now they both claimed that they were her Lord Shiv. But Sati noticed that in one person's eyes had so much lust for her.She was scared because her Lord never stared at her so lustfully.So she went to her real Shiv and said"Aap hi mere Shiv hai , aap ke drishti ka mere hriday mein amet sthan hai". Then the other person turned into a cruel Asur and threatened Sati that he would kill her. Shiv became so furious that he took his 'Rudra' form and chopped that Asur's head with his sharp Sword. Sati was frightened to see her Lord's Rudra roop. Because till then she only knew about her Soumya Shiv roop. Shiv came to her and calmed down himself and said her not to be frightened. He also told her that she was herself Adi-Shakti and when the time of destruction would come she would accompanied Shiv in his Tandav to destroy this creation so that something new could be created again. Then they started their journey towards Kailash. Before entering Kailash they crossed that cremation ground where once Sati was brought by Shiv and she became scared to see its cruelty. But now she didn't scare to see anything. Shiv was happy to see that .After that they crossed the glaciers in cold environment but Sati didn't bother about anything and this also made Shiv extremely happy. And finally they arrived at Kailash where they were welcomed by Brahmadev, Lord Vishnu and Devi Laxmi.

When Sati opened her eyes she found herself in her Lords arm lying on his lap. And also heard Shiv mumbling"Maine kahan tha abhi tum yogya nahi ho parantu kissi ne meri ek na shuni. Aur wahi hua jiska mujhe bhai tha.Tum apne he roop ke tej aur urja ko sahan nahi kar saki"Tear drops were falling from his eyes and dropped on Sati's face. She got up from her Lord's lap and asked about her horrible experience.(She sat on Shiv's 'Dhyanasan' when Shiv showed her the whole Kailash ) Shiv told they were your true forms and you were the Adi-Shakti herself. And he also added that from the next day he would start her Yoga training so that she could attain her true aspect soon. Sati agreed.

The next morning Sati went to take bathe at 'ManSarovar' but was hesitating as there was no cover. But soon the whole place filled up with fog and mist and the 'Sarovar' became invisible. She sensed her Lord and smilingly turned towards him. He too smilingly gifted her new clothes and asked her to take bathe.After her bathe Shiv placed his palm on her head and activate her "Kundalini Shakti" so that she could receive the 'Yogic power within her. They were sitting on Shiv's 'Dhyanasan ' together when Indra along with Kamdev and rati came there and asked his permission to decorate the Kailash for the union. Shiv agreed and they starting their work. After completing their job Rati took away Sati from Shiv for few moments to dressed her for this special occasion. When she returned with Rati Shiv could not take his eyes off from Stai. She looked very beautiful and divine in her simple red-white dress and floral jwellery. To give Shiv and Sati privacy Chandrama, Naagraj and other Ganas along with Indra,Kamdev and Rati took their leave. Then Shiv forwarded his hand to Sati to her hand and pulled her towards him. Sati leaned on her chest and he closed his eyes to feel the moment. But He opened his eyes surprisingly when he found Sati was crying. He uttered

Shiv:Sati…!!

Sati: Abhash hua na jane kitne kalpon se yeh jeevan iss skhan ke liye lalayit tha.Pratiksha ke megh barashne ko the aur aaj jab barshe hai toh beetein huye jeevan ki smritiyan such ki anubhuti de raha hai. Main nahi janti Bhage=wan hone ke nate aap ka iss Milan se sambandhit anubhuti kya hai ?Kintu iss such ki anubhuti ko punah jeenein ke liye main kayi sahasra jeevan issi roop mein lena chahoongi.

And she hugged him tightly and so did he. And then he took her to their flower bed made by Rati and Kamdev. She was lying on his lap staring at him. He also looked at her smilingly and caressed her hairs .She closed her eyes to feel that moment by every bit when he placed his hand on her hand right on her abdomen. But suddenly a tune of trumpet disturbed them and her Lord left her alone and went away.. She became so sad and recalled the previous memories of their Milan. Then she slept besides his 'Dhyanasan' placing her head on the tiger skin.

She woke up after having her Lord Shiv's touch on her head. She opened her eyes and saw him but before he took her hand in his hand she got up and went to take bathe. When she returned she was surprised to see that Shiv was playing the Dambroo .when she reached near him he told everyone that they would play a drama today. The content of drama was to braek a Rishi's penanace by an 'Apsara. Shiv played the Rishi's part and Nandi did the Apsara's role. Seeeing this Sati bursted out in laughter. Then Shiv told her that she would not be sad in Kailash from then. The whole environment became joyful and happy.

Chapter Six: Daksh's Yajna and Sati's self immolation

"Main apne Yog aur swayam Urja se iss deh ko Bhasmibhut karti hoon."

Sati was in her deep thought.After inventing the 'Natya Shashtra" by Mahadev Devarshi Narada came to Kailash to invite her and her Lord Shiv to a special Yajana at Naimishyaranya to celebrate Devas victory over Tarakasur and they also would felicitate her father and her husband together. So she happily agreed to be present at the Yajna. But when she reached there with her husband everyone welcomed them. Brahmadev, Lord Vishnu,Devi Saraswati and Devi Laxmi allwere there. Soon her father arrived there with his family and seeing her he was happy too. But when he went to Trinity Brahmadev and Lord Vishnu blessed him but Shiv too raised and blessed him.Thus made Daksh crossed all his limit. He decided to do a Yajna without Shiv and Sati's presence to take his revenge from Shiv. But as Adi-Shakti how could she let it happen??

Yes she discovered her true self. After returning from that Yajna she was so sad that she fought with her Lord . But later she realized that Shiv is the 'Jagat Pita' and Guru .If he mistakenly touched any lving creature's feet he/she would be trapped in 'Karma chakra". She then went to ask forgiveness again. Shiv forgave her but before he could tell her anything a voice was come from the earth "Om Namah Shivay".It had so much pain that he left her in between their conversation. But so many time he didn't return and the whole world was covered by darkness. She summoned her Lord's name by folded hand when she heard a known voice"Sati" .But opening her eyes she found none. So she sat on Shiv's 'Dhyanasan' and started meditation by remembering Shiv's name. Soon she reached to her Lord by her yogic power and seeing her Lord she hugged him and asked why did he not return to Kailash? Shiv replied from now he was body guard of Vidyunmali, son of Tarakasur. He did it planfully. Because Tarakasur tried to start a battle between Devas and Asuras and to stop him Shiv fastened him with 'Nagpash' sent him into the space. Vidyunmali did his penance and had Shiv as his body guard to arrest him within Patal loka and in the meantime his father who was roaming around in space now covered the sun. Then Vidyunmali arrived and told Sati to go back Kailash without her Lord Shiv. But Sati argued with him by demanding a home to stay with Shiv in Patal Loka .But Vidyunmali refused. Then something happened with her. She discovered a never ending energy within her and she took the giant and fierce form of Goddess Durga and threatened Vidyunmali to destroy everything. He was scared to his death and free Shiv from his words. Then she calmed down after asking by her Lord Shiv. Then Vidyunmali asked her to set free his father. She granted his wish and Shiv happily freed Tarakasur from his 'Nagpash".

Then she returned to Kailash with her Lord and cooked kheer for him and fed him with her own hand. He was also very happy and told her about his God for whom he meditataed, Lord Rama's tell. Listening that Stai couldnot resist herself to go to Rama's time to take his test(because she doubted in human form whether Lord Vishnu whom's incarnation was Rama could remember her or ot?) . She took Devi Sita's form and went to Rama but Rama easily identified her as Devi Sati. But Shiv, her Lord became furious at her for her this activity. He even refused to accept her as his 'Wamangi'.

And then her eldest sister came to meet her and give her father's Yajna's news. She became so upset and reached to Shiv for her permission to go to her father's Yajna. But he refused her by saying her that she didn't became Adi-Shakti completely. But she knew that She was the Adi-Shakti herself . And Shiv told her so because he didn't want to lose his beloved wife Sati. She too did not want to lose him but she couldn't tolerate his insult silently too. So being determined she went to her Lord Shiv and again ask his permission to go to Daksh's Yajna. But again he refused so she started quarelling with him and gave him her swear not to come there till her harm. Shiv became sad and asked her to take her swear back again and again. Now she became so angry to him that again she took her Adi-Shakti's form. Her this form was known as Devi Maha Kali and she came with other 10 fierce Devi who were known as 'Dasha Mahavidyas'. They all blocked Shiv from every way and agreed him for Sati's departure to Daksh Bhavan. Shiv gave the permission and was so devastated because he could visualized what was going to happen in the Yajna. Sati left Kailash with a stern smile.

When she reached to his father's Yajna Daksh did Shiv's "Ninda" in front of Sati. He even told that he could not accept Shiv as an mere animal. Sati became so furious to him and decided to sacrifice her body in the fire of his father's Yajna. But Narayan and other Devas tried to stop her and so did her sisters and her mother Prasuti. But Sati was determined so she again took her most fierce nad giant form as Devi Maha Kali and addressed Daksh

Sati: Prajapati main Adi-Shakti hoon. Samast shrushti ke praniyon ke swas mein jo tapan hai who main hoon, samst brahmand ki jo urja Shakti hai who main hoon, manav sharir mein sthit kunadalini shakti main hoon, Grah-Nakshatra ki gati main hoon, Vishnu ka sudarshan main hoon, Mahadev ka trishul main hoon. Main chahu to tatskhan tumhara vadh kar sakti hoon. Kintu tum iss deh ke Pita ho tumhe hatya kar main karm ke Vandhan mein nahi bandh sakti. Main tumhare tap se prasann hokar tumhari putri ki roop mein janmi thi kintu tum mujhe pehchan nahi sake aur ahamkar mein aa kar Mahadev ka apman kar baithe. Ab tumhare apman ka dand samast shrusti ko bhogna hoga, parlay ayega Mahadev abhi patnivihin rahenge iss sansar ko raksha karne wal veer ab janm nahi lega. Yeh sab tumhare ahamkar ka parinam hai.

Iss deh ko janm denwali DhatriMata Prasuti ko mera pranam, iss sharir se sambandhit sabhi ko mera antim pranam. AUR ANT MEIN APNE MAHADEV KO NAMAN KARTE HUYE MAIN APNI YOG AUR SWAYAM URJA SE ISS DEH KO BHASHMIBHUT KARTI HOON.

Saying this Adi-Shakti destroyed sati's body.

In kailash Shiv saw everything by his inner vision. When her beloved Sati immolated herself he became mad at the whole universe. He started his destructive dance 'Tandav'and created "Veerbhadra" from his power and ordered him to destroy Daksh and his creation. Veerbhadra left angrily to take revenge of the death of Sati. He havocked the whole creation.Even Lord Vishnu was failed to stop him. Then he started fought with Daksh but soon Daksh realized his defeat .So he pleaded to Shiv for his shelter . But Veerbhadra finlly beheaded him and disappeared . Then Narayan with other Devas went to Kailash and try to pacify him . But he didn't listen them. But when Narayan uttered "Sati" his eyes became wet and he agreed to come at Kankhal Skhetra. Reaching the Daksh Bhavan he relived Daksh with a goat head and picked his beloved Sati in his arm and left the palace. She took his Sati's corpse in his arm and stared at it and remembered each and every moment which he spent with her from her father's house to Kailash. He could not hold his tears and started crying badly. Then he was roaming around the universe to take her dead body in his arm. To pacify him finally Lord Vishnu sent his Sudarhan chakra to destroy her corpse. Her corpse turned into 52 pieces and fell on this earth. Shiv too followed them and became human to search them. He bore so much pain both in physically and mentally to recollect his dearest wife's body parts. Whenever he collected any of her body part he remembered his dearest Sati. Shiv's entire pain and plight was observed by Sati, the Adi-Shakti from the space. So she again came in front of her beloved Lord Shiv first in Adi-Shakti's form and then she took her simple beautiful Sati form. Shiv was so surprised and happy that tears were fallen from his eyes. Sati requested him to be in his true form. He answered her that without her he was incomplete. She replied back that even she too was incomplete without him .She assured him that she would be born again as Parvati and this time she would be with him for all eternity. But for that he needed to established Shaktipihtas where her body parts were fallen. Shiv agreed to do so and the both bid each other Good bye with tearful eyes. Sati disappeared from his sight and he went those places where Sati's body parts were fallen and established there a Shaktipithas and himself stay there with his Sati as Bhairav to protect the Pitha and there's pilgrimages from harm. It is said that without visit Shakti-pitha's Bhairav the good will or Punya will remain incomplete .

In the next Kalpa Sati was born again as Parvati to unite with her Lord Shiv and this time for all eternity.

With the exception of Om Namah Shivay, which aired many years ago, Lord Shiva has largely been overlooked by Hindi serial makers. Life OK's new offering Devon Ka Dev Mahadev is like a breath of fresh air and a terrific lesson in the life of the bairagi destroyer, Shiva. It wouldn't be wrong if you can call it a divine love story between Shiva and Sati, the youngest daughter of Prajapati Daksh, the arrogant son of Lord Brahma.

Inspired by the writings of Devdutt Patnaik (who has produced some seminal work on Shiva, retold Mahabharata and dealt with mythology in the last couple of years to bring it within the realm of the common man's understanding) and Bodhisatva, Mahadev is about Daksh's denial about the significance of Shiva and his daughter's love for the Lord. The show begins with Daksh's sthapana of the statue of Lord Vishnu. Everything seems to be in good order till the sages point out a glaring aspect that is lacking. There is no Shivalinga and hence the statue won't budge inside the temple. Not one to accept defeat, the arrogant King asks for parijaat flowers for the Narayani yagya he wants to perform for the installation of the statue. Sati volunteers to go to the forests to collect the flowers and that's when she stumbles upon Shiva's existence. Much as Sati tries to pull herself away from the vagabond God, she finds herself increasingly drawn towards him.

The show is awe-inspiring with respect to its production values. The locales, the settings, the costumes (especially the ones worn by Sati and her jewellery) are stunning. However, the performances are average and the dialogues are cliched like 'Main chupchaap saare dukh sehti rahi' to the 'Main pratiksha karoongi, sheeghra hi apeksha' stuff.

Mohit Raina as the mighty Mahadev is quite striking as far as the physical aspect is concerned. However, we would want him to be a little more expressive. Mouni Roy as the petite, fragile Sati is also stiff. She leaves a lot to be desired in the emotional scenes. She tries hard to convey the pathos and the pain but in vain.

We wish someone better with more depth was cast in her place. It's a pleasure to see Surendra Pal as the arrogant Daksh, despite him scowling most of the time. The rest of the cast pitch in good performances.

Notwithstanding the minor flaws, Mahadev is an engaging watch.

Verdict: An absolute must-watch!
