Lets do some maths based on "Pura din shooting, every single day,no sick off no holiday".
This is a very familar line when we hear OR read articles by Telly actors/actress.More popular lead role players.
Pura din as a std is taken as a round the clock phrase. meaning 12 hrs a day.
we will take 5 days per week (am loosing 2 days to leave room for negotiation...Accounts will agree with me this is way too much of allowance).
we will give 1 hr lunch break, 1 hr dinner break and 2 30 min tea breaks (this allowance is generally a high end break allowance.sometimes even executives are not so privileged). This totals to 3 hrs.
We are looking at 12-3= 9 hrs a day for 5 days of work input by 1 actor.
Lets take a peek on the work.
A serial runs for about 22mins a day for 4 days a week.
Therefore 22*4=88mins will round it to 90mins per week.
Back to the role players.
9hrs*5=45hrs =2700mins per week per actor.
So for 90 mins worth of show 1 actor gives in 2700 mins.
That is 2700/90= 30min. i.e for every min of screen play one actor(ess) puts in 30mins!
Remember all the 22mins of an episode are NOT entirely for 1 actor/ess.
Even if 22 is divided between only two role players (which is ofcourse NOT the case, there are many other actors in minor roles that take a piece of the 22 mins).
Given this then 1 actor does ONLY half of the above calculation.
This means a LEAD actor/ess
for every 1 min on screen an actor/ess puts in 60mins=1hr of work in that.
so do you really think for 1min of screen play they worked on it for 1hr?!?
Once again i will remind you the weekend hours of work input has not been taken into calculation.
WHEN PRODUCTION AND INDUSTRY ARE ASSIMILATED, TIME BECOMES A CRUTICIAL CONSTANT and TIME IS MONEY.Statisticians & Accountants will agree with me on this.
I have'nt forgotten there is a screen change and setup time required. But lets recollect a 22min episode and how often this happens in that 22mins.my weekend slash will come in here to reduce the effect of this factors in the calculation.plus the other role players(NON LEAD) havent been taken into account remember.
Now to my conclusions...
-which Industry can afford 1 hour of manpower time for a 1 min of TV entertainment?TO TOP UP WITH A PAY CHEQUE.
-So In essence does this really happen--PURA DIN shoot pe wala phrase?YES they could be stuck at the site but I want to believe they are NOT literally WORKING all those PURA DINS...
-There are industries where workers literally WORK all those hours they claim they are working because they get paid on an hourly basis.
-Essentially i feel they are blessed,i will NOT deny they work, but surely,FAME,FAN following,
LEISURE & A PAY CHEQUE all in ONE.How many get that in todays time?!
-No wonder this Industry is attracting a herdđ.
