Trinity road

 

Amazing!

My car just broke down, again and I think it's the 3^rd time this month and that to on a deserted road and I am standing in middle of nowhere!

Khatara kahin ki!

Now what? I wonder leaning on my car.

Hey isn't this the same road?

No..No…NOOO!

I rushed towards the car. Got in and closed the door. My heart was in my mouth. I think it just lost it , it was pumping like crazy! I made sure all the doors were locked and windows were closed, turned off the car lights. Looked around….mission accomplished…...you are alive Vinnie. For the time being at least…..

Breathe In. Breathe Out…

Why me? What have I done?

It is indeed a bad day!

I should have listened to Maa and stay back home today, but no I just can't stay away from trouble. Now deal with the repercussions.

I can't even call her my battery died.

Damn it! I hit the steering…Ouch! I cried.

Shut up Vinnie! I mentally scold myself.

 

*Flash back*

Good morning maa! I gave my mom an affectionate hug.

Morning sweety, she caressed my face and kissed my forehead. My mom is my sunshine. Her alluring smile brightens my day.

Vinnie I'm getting late beta, your breakfast is ready finish it fast. I have an important meeting today don't wait for me at dinner. And promise me that you will stay at home till I come back, college khatam ho gaya hain toh ab bhatakna band okay she said in a soft yet assertive tone.

But mom…she interrupted me.

Vinnie! She said.

Okay mom I said half-heartedly and waved her goodbye.

I jumped on to the couch and switched on the television and was flipping channels. I stopped at a local news channel.

 

Reporter: Another brutal murder incident on trinity road. A man in late 30's was found dead in his car. He was stabbed thrice. Here are few pictures from the crime scene.

What are the police officers doing? Why the authorities are mum at the issue?

We are in conversation with our respected commissioner sir.

Reporter: The numbers of such incidents are rising, 5 deaths in last 2 months and the 6^th one yesterday seems like a case of serial murder?

C: Yes, the pattern of killing is same. It is the same person.

Reporter: Any updates on the issue, sir?

                

C:  Yes, we are investigating the issue. We have deduced that the murderer must be a male considering the intensity of attacks and strength required. Vaguely speaking he should be around 5"8 or taller, athletic built.

Since the road leads to the highway and has many diversions it is difficult to seal the road but we have assigned officers for patrolling the area.

We request the civilians to abstain from passing by that area and be alert. And seek help from the police if the find something unusual. Thank you.

Reporter: We will keep you updated for further detail. Thank you for watching our show this is….

Wh-wh-what's that noise?...Noise? What noise? Stop imagining things Vinnie!

No seriously…

I switched on the car lights and peeped through the rear view mirror….

 

9:05 pm

Trinity Road

Sameer's POV

How can I be so careless? I lost my watch while investigating the road. I got out of the car took my flashlight and began searching for my watch. My father gifted me the watch when I graduated. It is the most precious gift .

I almost walked a half kilometer and found my watch lying near a tree on the other side of the road. I picked it up and when I turned back and was about to walk towards my car, I saw a another car.

I could see the car lights on. May be someone needs help, I wondered. I walked towards the car.

 

Vinnie's POV

 

 

 

I'm bored…..I should have brought something to eat at least I mumbled to myself.

 

I heard footsteps coming near my car making me shiver. My face turned pale and I became so terrified that my knees started shivering with fear. Sweat trickled down my back. I switched off the car lights. Footsteps became louder and louder. I shut my eyes tight, trying to block all the negative thoughts.

 

Everything around became quiet I opened my eyes slowly. A sudden knock on the window startled me and my heart rate shot up. I shut my eyes tight again and covered my face with my hand.

 

Excuse me, Lekin aap mujhe abhi bhi dikh rahi hain, he chuckled.

 

Stupid! Aankhen band karne se tu gayab ho jaygi kya, I said out loud.

 

He could help but smile. He was so happy to see her again. He tried to strike a conversation.

 

Hey..Are you okay? He said.

 

I turned to see the person. OMG its Him!

 

The same guy from the caf. Okay, I admit it he is kind of cute. Not cute , actually hot : P

He was tall, had broad shoulders. He has a chiseled jaw and deep and dark brown eyes. He was looking smart and well maintained. And his hair..they were a bit messy.

 

And how can I forget , his charming smile.

My jaws dropped. Why-o-why?

 

Out of all the people isse hi killer bana na tha kya?

 

But he doesn't look like one, I wondered.

Stupid kisiki shakal pe thodi na likha hota hain ki who killer hain, pata nahi kab dimag kharab ho jaye.

 

Point! I acknowledged.

Nahiii I almost screamed.

 

Hello? Are you okay? He asked again worriedly.

 

 

Yh-yeah I am okay I stammered.

 

Car broke down? Need help? He asked giving his charming smile which made my toes curl.

Control Vinnie!

 

NO! I snapped at him.

 

No'I mean my car is perfectly alright. It is just that I am waiting for someone, I tried to sound convincing.

 

He raised an eyebrow at me.

 

Actually, my boyf'..husband. Yes husband! I answered.

 

He stared at me for a minute and started laughing.

 

Husband? Oh come-on-you-can-do-alot-better, he managed to say between his laughter attack.

 

I decided to ignore him are turned my face towards the other side.

 

He knocked again to gain my attention.

 

Let me help you otherwise you won't find any vehicle passing by till the morning. And it is not safe here at night. Didn't you heard that a mad man is on a killing spree, he added.

 

Killer! The word made me shiver.

 

How can I possibly believe that I'll be safe with you? If you came out to be the killer, I retorted.

 

He glared at me. I don't know why but his intense gaze made me tremble.

 

I gathered courage and said, what's with those looks haan? I know aap kya kahenge'main killer nahi hu yahi na!

 

Main sach main killer nahi hu, he said trying to calm me down.

 

Yeah right, Har murderer yahi kehta hain ki who murderer nahi hain, I shouted.

 

Listen to me, he said in a calm voice.

 

No you listen to me!

I don't need your help. Do you get that, I snapped at him.

 

He searched for something in his pocket and slammed it against my window. It was his Identity card.

 

Sameer Dhamsingh Rathore, I repeated it in my mind.

 

A Police officer?

 

I breathe relief.

 

What the?

 

I realized what is just did, accused a police officer.

 

I looked at him, he was watching me fondly.

I saw him turning and walking away.

 

Hey! I shouted.

 

He turned back to see me. His expression changed, he looked annoyed.

 

I got out of the car and saw him leaning against my car. His arms folded across his chest and his eyes staring into mine demanding an explanation.

Oh Damn! This guy is seriously pissed off, I said to myself.

Actually who main'matlab mujhe laga'.matlab aisa nahi ki'.

 

He interrupted me. Aacha toh kaisa hain? He asked firmly.

 

Woh main na'.

 

What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I at a loss of words? I wondered.

 

Go on, he ordered enjoying my nervousness.

 

I closed my eyes and said it all in a single breath, I am so sorry I mistook you with the killer. I just loose it sometime. I should have given a second thought but instead  I jump onto conclusions. My car broke down and my cell phone's battery died and I don't know what to do. Plus, I am feeling damn hungry and sleepy. And when I heard the name killer I just freaked out. I am so sorry again.

 

Okay'Okay that is enough, he said with charming smile and tried to comprehend what I just said.

 

I smiled back to him.

 

Vinnie Ahuja, I forwarded my hand.

Sameer Rathore, he replied gently shaking my hand.

Aap mujhe jail mein toh nahi daalege na, I asked sheepishly still could not believe a accused a police officer to be a murderer.

 He decided playing along and put on a stern face and said, We'll see. His gaze made me lower my eyes.

 

Let me drop you home, he said.

 

Yeah sure, I replied. I took my bag and we walked towards the direction of his car which was around a  half kilometer away.

 

You didn't answer my question? I asked hesitatingly.

 

You didn't answer mine as well, he replied.

 

Which question? I asked feeling confused.

 

The one which I asked in the morning at the caf, remember? He said smilingly.

 

I could feel my cheeks turn red. How can I forget he confessed his feelings in the morning at the cafe?

 

I thought of teasing him, I changed the topic, Umm'about morning yes! How can I forget you have a great voice I must tell you?

 

He gave me an unbelievable look.

And, I continued.

And what about the guy? He asked.

My cheeks turned red again. He was nice too, I managed to squeeze out.

 

Vinnie's POV

 He looked at me adoringly and smiled.

He looked like a lost puppy and I burst out lauging.

 

Sameer's POV

 I saw her laughing heartily. Everything felt different. Everything came to a halt.

 Even the world stopped to look at her.

 

Vinnie's POV

 I could see him coming towards me. I stopped laughing. He pulled me close, due to the sudden pull I collided with his strong chest. He encircled my waist with one hand and placed his other hand on my cheeks caressing them. I could feel the heat radiated from his body.

He leaned in to kiss me. 😳
