laptop not powering up

Hi guys,I am no use at techie stuff so hope someone can help me here. My daughter has given me an HP G61-110SA laptop which will not power up. When I plug in the psu the light at the side of the psu socket comes on but the computer makes no attempt to fire up,The psu has been tried on another laptop and works fine. The specs are windows 7,4GB memory,320 GB hard drive.Any help would be appreciated.
