Which has been this year's best performance by an actress so far: Vidya Balan in Kahani, Priyanka Chopra in Barfi, or Sridevi in English Vinglish?

They were very very good. But I think it's been a good year for heroines in general. Priyanka, Kareena, Richa Chadha, Deepika were all good in their films too.
While Priyanka has been taking Challenging Roles in her career, was Barfee a challenging Role? It was a film dominated by Ranbeer. However I would rate SriDevi and Vidya at par for their performances in their respective fields. Asked by:Ashwin Bhargava
I think Priyanka's was a very convincing performance in a very tough role. But Vidya and Sridevi were excellent in their films too. Great year for heroines.
Bhavna Ruparel in Chal Pichchur Banate Hain. She is Sonakhi's cousin and acts better than her. Asked by: Denvir
I saw that film. I don't think it was a particularly outstanding performance, but perhaps because it wasn't a particularly outstanding role. Sonakshi isn't a bad actress. She was terrific in Dabangg.
Priyankas role was the most difficult one.not everyone could do it.it could hv gone terribly wrong.the other two were ver safe roles.PC was the best. Asked by: Deep
Priyanka's was not an easy role, I agree. She pulled it off so well. She was convincing and endearing and she left such a lasting impression.
I really believe barfi's story wasn't revolving around PC as the other two.I believe all 3 r brilliant.But if you leave an impact on audience,even when you are not in focus is a more commendable job i feel. What is your take ? Asked by: Harsh Sarawagi
I don't agree - PC was very much one of the two central characters of the film. But nevertheless, she was very very good in the film.

I wasn't particularly impressed by the trailers of her film, but I'm hoping the film will surprise us pleasantly. Preity has an effortless charm on screen. Looking forward to seeing more of that in her new film.

I dont want to put them in order, but I will add to the list - Richa Chadha in GOW, Deepika in Cocktail, Kareena in Heroine. It's been a good year for the Hindi film heroine.

Kareena was so good in Heroine. Hers was a vulnerable yet solid performance. But she was let down by the terrible film.

I feel Sridevi in English Vinglish. Though VB and PC were also brilliant but you feel they acting on screen. What makes Sri special in EV is you get involved to her character as if you are watchin a lady next to your house. Asked by: Rajat Dani

I agree. Richa Chadha was very very good as the steely wife and mother in GOW.
In Kahani, Script was layered and not performance. On character end , you do not need any extra effort to hide facts. Even if end was different, then also same character played by Vidya had worked. Vidya was good but though not agree with layered character analogy Asked by: Rajan
I'm not sure I agree with you... While it's true the script was layered, so was the character. She's someone trying to win your sympathy and your trust with a lie; however she has actually "been through" what she claims to be, so is it really a lie then? Her motives are real and honest. It is a great performance.

Yes they are. But Sridevi was pretty terrific too in English Vinglish.

Dear Rajeev, if at all I am made to pick n choose the actress of my choice from the younger generation, Vidya Balan stands out, her performance in PAA and now in Kahani has brought her at par with actresses of the calibre of Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. Would you agree to that ? Asked by: Mansoor
I do agree. Vidya in Kahaani had a layered character. It was a tricky part, and she pulled it off so convincingly.
To evaluate the best performance on an actress you need to check other languages also such as Bengali, Malayalam etc. Asked by: Bugs60

I agree. It's hard to play such a seemingly simple, normal character. These are the harder roles in fact. Sridevi won your heart five minutes ino the film.
Priyanka Chopra acted more as a mentally challenged person rather than an autistic person. I think Ileana was better than her in Barfi. Asked by: Mulligan
I dont think Priyanka was bad at all, I think she pulled off that part very convincingly and very endearingly. But I agree with you that Ileana was very good and unfortunately her performance went unnoticed because the other two actors had more "showy" roles in comparison to her "seemingly easier" role.
I think Sridevi is great in English winglish better than Vidya, Kareena and Priyanka in Kahani, Heroine and Barfi. Because simple is difficult and that was Shridevi did and that so after 15 years. What do u think Asked by: Devang

I think Priyanka played the part SO well. She was controlled and restrained even in such a delicate part. I think she's definitely delivered one of the BEST performances this year.

Yami Goutam was indeed very promising. Sridevi was terrific. I think Vidya's character in Kahaani had layers, and her performance was riveting.
heyy rajeev.. there was alot of buzz about barfis entry to the oscars.. looking at the past.. we have sent some really good movies.. and one such movie that truly reflected the indian mentality,past society, culture and history was Paheli.. i tried alot to surf the net for your review about that movie.. but was unable to find it... so can you inshort give your views about that movie..its direction, performances and other aspects.. and also how much did you enjoy that movie??? I enjoyed the idea behind Paheli, the story had meat to it. But I think it's a film that didn't benefit from all those stars in it. My logic is, this was a simple fable that you hear in villages. By putting big stars into it, it loses the mythical feel to it and becomes larger than life. Whereas the fable itself has a very mythical feel to it...the sort of fable you hear from old grandmums...the kind of story that's passed down generations...not sure i've articulated myself clearly but i liked the idea, i didn't care for the execution.
