Nur - Aah, someone feels like me. I usually really like her articles - in fact I think I remember saying how her write ups among all others inspired by Kunal/NBT have been more precise and content specific. But after reading this one, all I could think of was the woman's hit by a much belated sense of loss for NBT/Kunal - more Kunal, no doubt. Not to say she wouldn't have felt the waves from wherever it started - she might or might not have - but the point is exactly what you're saying. They held on to something that was so obviously a lost cause too long and continued to lament through its down slide ride. I don't particularly understand how the whole "loyalty/hope" tangent works for an audience. So personally I would think that if I REALLY liked someone's work, I would direly want to promote the need of quality prospects for him/her. And not applaud everything in his/her surround sound just because they're a part of it! NBT fangirls have given longevity to a project which quite a while back started failing their rockstar hero Kunal. And they think they were "sticking thick" for him. Damaging support, is all I can say! And honestly I stopped going to the forum entirely because the fangirlism was becoming too precocious for me to even briefly bear, but the other day when you posted something on the GoT thread I wandered by again, and it's an awful unrecognizable place! No surprise though.
I think it's not just the "simplicity" being lost that's the concern, but the fact that the audience doesn't really know or understand what they strive for. How many people in the audience even want their show to ever end? They're okay to have it drag to an eternity's while, if only it's still running. And then the same people will look back and mock the K-shows which ran for years. The majority audience only vies for one thing - what struck a point with them, should live forever. No strings attached. And even if a show has potential and starts off very well, how do you expect it to run on and on without an expiry and without any degradation? I don't know if its the TRP system you can blame for it, singularly, or the audience expectation of never ending results from one source. People keep talking about how Indian TV needs the weekly system, the seasons system, like other networks, I think they just need to draw some contracts and lines about having FIXED PLANS. In terms of story, its running time, its cast, and all those parameters. And not start off with a vague theory - we have this ONE single thought, we're going to start off a show based on it, and then depending on how it goes we will stretch forever, or be terminated. It's the one single handed means of ensuring you can NEVER have a show which is content rich in a consistent manner, when the show has no idea how long to run, along what audience pleasing tangents to pursue, and so on...
