for :

Will your character in 'Woh Rehnewali Mehlon Ki' die because of the 20-year leap?
Yes. I don't want to grow old on-screen.
I want to play my age. How will I look convincing in the role if I'm not convinced about my character. But it's not like I'm quitting the show. I'll be reborn as Rani's daughter.

Do you agree with serials taking leaps like this?
I don't have a problem with them as long as I don't have to grow old in the leap. When I was told about the leap and that I'd be dying and reborn as Rani's daughter, I was okay with it. But I'd never play an old character instead I'd rather walk out of the show.

Wouldn't the audience have felt letdown with your walkout?
There would be no point in me carrying on with the show without my own convictions. I don't believe in fooling the today's intelligent audience. I'd wonder what I'm doing in the show if I'd to still look young and address people my age as 'beta' or 'beti'. I don't believe in doing anything half heartedly.

But even film heroines in their prime have grown old in their films?
It's possible in films as they're not time bound. Playing two characters, is tough and also very time consuming in terms of switching from one getup to another. If there are mother-daughter scenes together then it's impossible and strenuous for a daily soap.

So when are you appearing as Rani's daughter on the show?
We'll begin shooting in a few days from now which could be anytime within a fortnight.

What sort of a look will the daughter have?
It'll be an Indian look, where I'll be wearing a salwar-kameez, with an Indo-western look.

Why not a very western look?
That look has already been given to my sister. Besides, I don't think I'd be comfortable in them. I can carry off jeans, T-shirts, and cargos but not deep and halter necks. I don't dress up like that in real life. I believe in wearing comfortable clothes. I'm a casual western dresser. I can't wear revealing clothes. I don't have a problem with others wearing it but I can't. I'd be pulling my T-shirt up all the time.

Did you expect the show to be popular?
No. I thought it would be one of the regular shows. Besides, the performances, I think what really appealed to people was the middle class setting. This was at a time when everything in serials was lavish. We went the opposite way and showed something very real and gave them something different. Our viewers are mainly middle class people. Today, everybody on TV has brought back the middle class setup.

How about films?
I'm definitely open to films. I'm looking for main leads but with something different to do. I also don't want to do a film just to be a part of it. I had got a suitable offer some time back but things didn't work out. I haven't really had good offers after that. I don't have hang-ups about approaching people for work, but I'd like to meet them as the main lead of a TV show. I wouldn't be able to walk into a producer's office asking for work. It'd be stupid of me to think that they'll call me. One has to go out of their way to get work.

Tell us about your long distance marriage
(Laughs) My husband lives in Delhi and we make it a point to meet at least once a month. He calls this our courtship period. We joke that we're having an affair and the fire of wanting to meet each other is there.

Is he planning to shift base to Mumbai?
Yes, he is, whenever he gets an opportunity. His job requires him to give off too much of his time. Just when he was planning to shift here, his boss offered him a pay hike and a promotion. His job is as important to him as my job is to me. We've decided that none of us are going to sacrifice or compromise on our jobs. My husband and in-laws are very supportive of my career. My marriage has proved lucky for my career. Whenever I visit Delhi, I don't feel like I'm going to meet my in-laws. They are like my parents. They are very proud of my popularity on television but don't behave like they are kicked about having a star daughter-in-law. I'm having the best of both worlds (laughs).
