She hated this -this engagement party of the horrible girl who had once got her claws into Siddharth. What wouldn't she give, to be able to sink her teeth into the simpering idiot.. Or into her sister, the one human she hated more than any other,who had snatched away her love, who'd had the audacity to free him from her curse, and who was currently locking eyes with him as though they were having some weird telepathic connection. Maithili burned in jealousy.
None of the humans or the vampires could have seen her, of course. Though darling Abhayendra, she heard, was apparently hot on the trail of the vampire who'd been attacking humans. She stifled a laugh at the thought. If only he knew how easy it was to hide in plain sight!
Maithili saw a young lady whose expressions probably would resemble hers. Contempt and jealousy...interesting...
She followed the human's eyes where a young man was dancing away with a curly headed girl she recognized as Misha. Oh yes of course...Darling Abhayendra's pet Pia's sister...Wasn't she the one who'd seen through her act last time? Oh yes, Misha would need to be bitten soon.But not now. She looked back at the other girl who was watching her in barely repressed fury. No doubt, she was good looking enough...and healthy too.
Almost as though she'd heard her thoughts, the girl moved down the stairs, vanishing outside, away from the eyes of the others.She sat alone, almost as if inviting Maithili. Maithili didn't waste time. Blindfolding the girl, whisked her off into the forest where it had all started.
It was time...time for Haseena's dinner.
Maithili smiled in satisfaction, thinking of Haseena. She had been almost weaker than she had expected. Haseena had had a weakness for human blood; that aspect had worked very well in her favour. It never took much time to possess her.
She watched from the shadows as Haseena drank The girl's blood, and she screamed in horror and pain. This was it. Swiftly, Maithili summoned her powers and tore away all her memories, just before Haseena dropped the girl on the ground. She then directed Haseena to leave, while she entered the girl's human body.
As Haseena left, Maithili saw a silver box lying on the ground. It was rather small, she thought. Opening it, she saw a blue screen that seemed to have "T" on it. It was asking her where she was. Maithili wondered why- Siddharth had only taught her so much about these devices the humans called cell phones. She wondered what to write. Finally, she decided on a dramatic effect. She typed the name of the graveyard where they were. Pulling last night's dinner of the bushes, Maithili made the corpse of the teenage girl wear the clothes of the girl whose body she had taken. She would need some time to get adjusted to her memories...
Tanushree Ambolkar liked to call herself T, she went to Mount College, she liked wearing short dresses, she had recently ended her relationship with the boy called Kabir , she had two friends called Barbie and Skipper, and- this bit particularly interested Maithili- she hated Misha and Pia with a passion. Apparently the boy Maithili had seen dancing with Misha was Kabir'.
She looked at herself in the mirror in her palace. T's features seemed slightly blurred, she thought, and it would take some time- nearly a day- before she could go out in public. That was a worrying factor, as the next evening had dawned and the humans were searching for her. She somehow entered T's house, following her memories, and after influencing the servant, went straight to her , no T's room, and hunted for something she could use to disguise herself. She found a tube of something that looked like mud. She read it and found out that it was supposed to help in beautifying herself. Steeling herself, she dialled Misha's number from T's cell phone and left her a threatening message that would hopefully bring Misha to the house.
Misha did arrive- but with Kabir. Maithili seethed- did the Dobriyals have nothing other to do than snatch other women's paramours? First Pia, now this chit Misha?
The next day, T - or rather, Maithili- arrived at Mount College with her entourage. She almost felt like a princess again. She'd carefully pulled T's hair over to one side to hide the bite marks, but apparently her attendants seemed to like it. She saw Kabir standing by a desk. She turned to her attendants for information, but they had understood her intentions, and immediately one of them said " He's been writing love letters on cards all morning, do you think he wants you back?" The other girl tittered and Maithili smirked. She called out to him , telling him that she would not take him back . She expected him to grovel, and profess his undying love for her. Instead, Kabir said nearly the same words she had heard a year back.
He didn't love her.No, Kabir said instead that he loved someone else, someone who was better than she was. That she didn't deserve his love.
Maithili felt the world start to shrink, move round, and right itself again. She heard the echoes of another voice, another face, another time, telling her he didn't love her. That he loved someone else. That he had chosen a human over their centuries-old saga. She knew how T must have felt then, and she knew exactly how she felt. Barely seeing Kabir anymore, she slapped Abhayendra- he looked like him then- hard.
