Perfect, Virat thought as he watched Dabbu leave the house. He had heard the phrase 'dream come true' several times but never imagined that it could be so easy. Virat was now at Hrishikesh and more importantly at Maanvi's house. Her fainting in his arms had really scared him. He had carried her to her home where they were received by a weary looking Beeji and family members. They had sprinkled some water on her face and she had woken up still furious at him. He didn't care as long as she was on her feet. What caused him to stay there that night was not just the fact that he still hadn't been able to tell her about his feelings but also that he had noticed something strange about her family member's reaction. When Virat brought and unconscious Maanvi to their home they didn't seem surprised by her fainting spell, just confused. It was almost as if they were used to her falling ill and that it was expected from her. It had bothered him enough to make him call his brother and convince him to let him stay there for one night. He was going to keep a close eye on her. He noticed the dark circles under her eyes and the wounds on her hand due to constant and ruthless pricking of needles. She had become paler and thinner and he caught her hands shivering as she tried to get up from the cot on which she was laid. Instant investigation was needed. His heart couldn't rest without it. And that was why he was ridiculously proud of himself for sending Dabbu out by making up a story about some new fair that had started. Beeji and Chachi had taken Badi Beeji to the hospital for her routine check up. Madan chachu had went out for some work regarding his business. He was alone in the house with Maanvi. He grinned.
BINGO
Virat found himself pacing back and forth in the corridor in front of Maanvi's room. He had sweetly asked her to charge his phone in her room in front of the whole family. He knew that she wouldn't be able to refuse thus providing him the perfect opportunity to enter her room. His hand hovered over the handle of the door as he didn't exactly know what he was going to do. After a few seconds of though he decided that he would propose her if she was in the room. If not he would do some investigation in order to find something about the 'mystery of her ill health'. He peeped inside and seeing the coast was clear got inside. He surveyed her room once and understood that he was in for a tough time after their marriage. All her things were scattered around the room. Her bed was still not made and a book lay open on her bed. Clothes were thrown everywhere. The only thing that was properly in place was Jeevika bhabhi's and her photo. He smiled. Jeevika Bhabhi was clearly head of the cleaning department when she was here. Suddenly the open book on the bed caught his attention. He could make out his name written on the pages. He walked forward, his hands just inches from the book when suddenly-
"Zara zara bahekta hai, mahekta hai
She was singing. In the excitement of entering her room he had completely forgotten about her. Her voice was coming from inside the bathroom. It was as if he was in a spell. Unwillingly he moved towards the voice, her voice.
"Main bhooli nahin haseen mulaaqaatein
"Hai meri kasam tujhko sanam, door kahin na jaa
Yeh doori kehti hai paas mere aaja re
Aaja re, aaja re, aaja re"
He almost felt as if it would rain now. The effect of her song was so overpowering that he didn't hear her switch the shower off. He heard the water splash as she stepped over it. It was only then that he realized where he was. She was coming closer towards the bathroom door. He didn't have time to reach the door so he did the stupidest thing that he could ever do. He hid in her cupboard. And that too just in time. If he had been even one second late than he was she would have seen him.
She emerged from the bathroom wearing a pink bathrobe. Her hair was open and she had not dried it well. He could see water droplets dripping to the ground. A lock of hair fell on her forehead and her face was no longer pale. It was a pleasant pink, like the colour that he had often observed in pink roses. It was natural and couldn't be imitated by the makeup that Maya often used to wear. He was wrong in saying that she was beautiful. She was beyond words. He was breathless.
Suddenly he saw her frown and then look around the whole room as if searching for something. Apparently she didn't find what she was looking for. She still looked a bit suspicious. "Virat!" she yelled. He was tempted to answer but clamped his mouth shut. He was surprised that she had felt his presence their. He had heard of this happening when in love but never believed in it. But here was the living example, right in front of him. He knew that she loved him too but didn't realize it. He decided that he would make her realize even if it was the last thing he would do. He could hear his heart beating faster. She would come to the cupboard anytime now.
And he was right. She started to make her way toward the cupboard. Virat closed his eyes, anticipating her scream.
"Tring Tring" his phone rang from its charging place near her bed, causing her to stop. She went towards the phone. He sighed in relief. Saved by the bell, he thought.
She picked up his phone in her hands. Her watched as her mouth formed a little 'o' in surprise.
"Maya" she said simply. He expected her to pick up the phone and tell Maya that she would convince him to go back to her. But he watched in shock as her expression changed from taken aback to a look of determination.
"Click" She cut the call.
Virat would have jumped of joy if he wasn't in fear of hitting his head. That was the silver lining he had been looking for.
