2/4 Analysis Unit: Humari Shaadi Mein!

Holy mother of god! 😕

That was the most mentally exhausting hour of my TV watching life! This episode is not for the faint hearted!!! It was also a dramatic one and none of that subtlety of the temple episode that we all so loved. But this is the flip side of the serial-world coin and we have to take it as it comes. I usually hate drama like this and just weather it until the storm passes, but this show is doing it well. Even though they were teasing us to appease the TRP (more like T(EASE)RPs 😡). gods, the sequence of events made perfect sense and so there was a sense of conflict rather than one of frustration and "let's get on with it, then!" But I had a feeling they wouldn't let us off the hook that easy!

I am so glad we thoroughly prepared ourselves with all the possibilities of Yash not finding out, because it made me weary to arm myself with chocolate before I sat down for the episode. And as soon as I saw Aarti asking the Dubeys why they didn't let her speak to Yash, I scarfed it down! I strongly suggest it to anybody who has not yet seen the episode. 😛

Well, I think Dubeyji sort of stole the show today! It was his episode where his true colours came out. Not only is he morally weak, he is also manipulative and will stoop to any low when he sees what he wants being so carelessly dealt with. He is a man who avoids confrontation but when it comes down to what he wants he will pull the dirtiest tricks which is what he did today with Aarti. I honestly didn't blame him until now, only felt pity but now I want to wring his stubby neck! 😡

How dare he speak about karz chukana? I mean that is not how you speak to your children! First they take away Aarti's agency and tell a huge lie on her behalf. They put her in a situation that she could never be satisfied with and then expected her to bow down to it for her own benefit. Perhaps this is what Dubey is used to from Prashant, him making the situation well and dandy at all costs and Prashant accepting the ends without questioning the means. But Aarti is different. She is principled (as we have seen, to a fault) and to her doing the right thing is far more important than Ansh getting a father or her a new start at life.

And coming to Aarti, I fell in love with her all over again and I think this was one of KS' strongest performances on this show to date! That quiet determination, followed by that desperate sadness and frustration when Dubey gave her the ultimatum was brilliant! And I love how the story writers have given me a reason I can believe for Aarti to hide the truth from Yash. It is not like I am allowing it for the sake of drama, but I can actually see the conflict inside her and the way she was slowly backed into a corner with no way of escaping. If she conceals it from Yash now, I cannot blame her at all! 😲 How did that happen??? Hats off to the storytelling there!

I loved how single-minded she was about telling them the truth but how at every stage she got blackmailed into stopping in her tracks, a moment of weakness and the fight resumed! And even though the suspense was there, I was pretty sure Yash was not going to hear her on the phone but the reason for that really did shock me! Maybe it was because Jellyfish Dubey actually DID something for once. 😡 Until now he was on the defensive, with Shobha and Aarti supporting each other but when he sees this possibility of a normal, "respectable" life slipping from his fingers he doesn't shy away from action. This makes me even angrier because I realise what he could have done for Aarti if he chose to put his energy into it. Those head shakes by Shobha were fantastic when he was telling her to leave the room. We got the idea that she was in charge, but now it is clear that she is as oppressed, when it comes down to it, as Gayatri. Perhaps that is why she so wants Aarti to have better!

There wasn't much Yash today but that scene with his daughters was completely adorable and intimate, in the midst of all that white noise. I love how even at this moment, he is so focused on them and making sure that they are happy, cheerful and taken care of. And I think it also shows that when people allow him, and are not carefully watching his every move to find fault, he is a very attentive, intuitive, not at all awkward and openly affectionate parent, the mother stereotype he once resented not being able to experience. When all his female family members are busy with other things, he experiences this moment of unguarded intimacy with his daughters and we caught a glimpse of the real Yash, I would say, the one he only ever showed to Arpita.

Ok that is all for me today on the episode. I will of course discuss things as they come up...

All the performances were also good and incorporated well into the script. I only thought Hiten-Ankita's was a bit too long, but it was all in good fun and I am sure PR fans enjoyed it so all forgiven. 😃

Actually white and red r two contrasting colours being used ..I feel both couples will hv contrasting POVs post marriage and there will b ups and downs in both marriages but both white-red combo in the end always gives a positive result 😳😳..so the ups and downs will b resolved eventually 😃😃 ...

The way Aarti single handedly fought with Mr.Dubey for the truth and tried telling it to Yash till last minute even after so much of emotional atyaachar coming from both Shobha and Mr.Dubey was simply praiseworthy and indicates that in future Aarti will not toelrate a single injustice done to her or Ansh ...she has the fighting spirit and can stand up against her own people for truth 👏👏👏👏

Producer Sumeet Mittal is hopeful that Punar Vivah's numbers will rise in future...

Zee TV's Punar Vivah has got off to a sluggish start and is rating around 2.3 TVR after a month of its launch. The channel definitely has big expectations from this Gurmeet Choudhary and Kratika Sengar starrer show on re-marriage. They even had an aggressive PR campaign around its launch time which included a symposium on the issue of re-marriage. However, show's producer Sumeet Mittal of Shashi-Sumeet Mittal Productions Pvt Ltd does not seem perturbed by these initial lower numbers, "The real strength of Punar Vivah i.e. the interpersonal relationship between the couple, will only start now once the remarriage takes place. The first month was used up to show the build up to the marriage (with all its resultant issues) and establish all the various characters. We are very confident that the numbers will now rise once the wedding is shown. Such a similar late spike had also taken place with our other hit Star Plus show Diya Aur Baati Hum as well", reminds Sumeet.

Sumeet also shares that he is not at all surprised with the initial audience response of not liking Gurmeet's characterization in the show. "This was only expected as his Geet (Star One) lover boy image was very popular, hence it will take some time for the same to be erased from public conscious, which is now slowly beginning to happen."

Furthermore, the writer-turned-producer says that he will not resort to what he calls "gimmicks" to hike ratings, referring to the consummation scene in Balaji's Bade Achhe Lagte Hain (Sony Entertainment Television).

And of course, the production house is on a high as it has launched another show (their fifth for different channels), Kairi on Colors. "We believe in making simple stories for family audiences," he concludes.

Res. Super excited for the marriage and waiting to see how the divorce truth plays out in between.

I'm going to split my take into two halves, otherwise I am sure I will get confused and forgot what I want to write about.

1st half take:

I'm not too happy with the way they cut right from Aarti trying to talk to Yash to Yash with his family and Aarti with the Dubeys. It just looked weird. I know they wanted to keep the suspense for a bit more, but they could have done that by still keeping everything in mute, but showing us that the Dubeys took Aarti away.

Anyway, Aarti asked the Dubeys some very pointed questions. As they knew her so well, how could they ever have thought that she would agree to get married with such a big lie as her divorced status being kept secret? It also seems like she knows her parents well, for she didn't seem to have too much trouble believed that Dubey would go in for something like that, but was absolutely astonished that Shobha went along with him. Shobha's reason of being able to do anything for their child's happiness should continue to play out. We will have to wait and see what all the Dubeys do to keep the happiness of their daughter.

I do wish that Yash had been a little more proactive in finding out what was wrong with Aarti and what it was that she wanted to tell him. Perhaps he thought she wanted to tell him something along the lines of what he already thinks is true, that she loves her "dead" husband as much as he loves Arpita. If that is the case, some self dialogues would have been welcome. Actually some self dialogues would be welcome regardless, because he must be thinking something about the whole situation. Like when Vidhi ask him if Aarti told what was worrying her, we can't tell what he is thinking of, or if he is even thinking of Aarti at all. He just looks like he is going to a funeral instead of a wedding, but no explanation for that look is given.

Vidhi producing the two jewelry gift sets and asking Yash and Prateek to take care of them is very interesting. I think the gifts could be a kind of representation of their newly married lives.

Prateek is very happy to receive the gift, but runs off after his brother without a thought for protecting the set, or that it's not a good idea in general to run with a jewelry box. I think this might show how Prateek really has no conscious thought of the kind of effort he will have to put in to take care of his marriage, he just follows his impulses. That doesn't mean that it will turn out bad in the end, but he might make some mistakes with Paridhi that could be avoided if he was more careful.

Yash on the other hand, doesn't really want the gift but takes it anyway. He holds it gently, and though it is only held at his side, it is held securely. This is an indication that he does not really want the marriage (which we already know) but he accepts it anyway. Though he may also not be giving any conscious thought to caring for the necklace, he does it subconsciously anyway. Yash's natural tendencies will lead him to doing what is needed to support his growing relationship and marriage with Aarti, even if his heart is not inclined to do so at the beginning.

2nd half take:

I like how all the song sequences actually fit in as part of the story. During the baraat I saw Mansi's face pop up next to Pankaj and I wondered what she was doing there. It looked like she was there with Ansh, but I couldn't help but wonder about how Pankaj and Mansi keep showing up together. I wonder if they are trying to give us a clue that there will be something between these two characters later, or if Mansi is just a symbol for the difficulties that Pankaj and Vidhi's marriage will face (or already have faced).

Before writing this I did read a couple of posts and saw that people are pretty upset with Dubey for his handling of the whole matter. Though I don't like his actions either, as an audience member I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. It seemed to me that a lot of his "izzat" dialogues were more his frustration over the divorce debacle coming out. His way of dealing with all these situations may not be the best, but his feelings a legitimate. I am willing to forgive him for his stupid behavior now, if he stands by Aarti later. (If not, then I will jump on the crucifying bandwagon.)

In their worry about what will happen if the marriage stops "now", the Dubeys are forgetting to consider what will happen when the truth comes out later. They are acting as if the truth won't come out as long as Aarti plays along, but that is foolish. It would be impossible to keep this a secret for the next 50 years, as Prashant himself is not going to stay away, and is not even aware that he needs to for Aarti's marriage not to have problems. Whenever Aarti's truth comes out to the Scindia family (I'm not counting Yash, because I doubt he will care as much as his parents), the Dubeys need to prove if they really can do anything for their "beti's happiness". If both of them, not just Shobha, are willing to take the blame for the lie in front of the Scindias and society, then I will be okay with them. They never should have told the lie in the first place, and now that Aarti wants to come clean, they should not be stopping her, but if in the end, they will take their rightful blame, then at that time I will forgive them. (I hope this made sense, because I'm not trying to take their side, I'm just saying that I haven't totally given up on them yet.)

Okay, so they are playing the will she tell/won't she tell game for tomorrow. I'm betting on she wants to tell, but does not get an opportunity. Let's see how the marriage comes off.
