'I didn't listen to others': Deepti Bhatnagar, creative director of Deepti Bhatnagar Productions reveals, "When I was modelling and acting, people thought it was foolish of me to get into production. But I didn't listen to others. It's been six years now and I think I've come a long way." Deepti started her production company in 2000 and was the first one to begin international travel destinations. "My show 'Musafir Hoon Yaaron' was a complete hit. I think women are passionate and honest about their work and that's how it clicks."
'Either you have it or you don't': That's what Shrishti Arya, director Rose Audio Visuals, believes. Having been associated with the production house for almost 30 years, she has made her mark with shows like 'Lipstick', 'India Calling', 'Remix' and 'Twinkle Beauty Parlour'.
She adds that the new set of programming and producers in the industry have shattered the myth that producers are not creative people. "I personally look into everything. The competition is strong. You have to be good in whatever you do. But I also believe there is room for everyone else."
'No production house can succeed without the backing of a man'
So feels Vinta Nanda of 'Miilee' fame. "You look at all the examples around us — Ektaa has Jeetendra,Deeya has Tony, Shrishti has Goldie, I have Raman Kumar. Men find television a little less exciting compared to films. But they are also aware of the fact that TV involves a huge amount of money. That's when they involve women."
'We need to have a better conviction of storytelling'
Deeya Singh, creative head of DJS productions admits, "Television has changed since the time we started. When we started, things were different. Nowadays, there is no conviction of storytelling. You have to ensure that no two shows are similar. The fun is never to repeat yourself." Deeya who works with husband Tony created a rage with the popular show 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin'. "I handle the creative bit and Tony takes care of the production. I think we've been very lucky because we really didn't have to put in any extra effort. Everything fell into our laps."
