Rehman plays in Godfather

Behindwoods April 20, 2005   After the success of Ji, Ajithkumar is busy shooting for Godfather being directed by K.S.Ravikumar. Vairamuthu has penned the lyrics for the film. After so many years, A.R.Rahman has sung Vairamuthu's lyrics in this film. He is also the music director for the film.

I love music . Most of us may remember the Balancing of equation . If I take the same rule I will say

My Love = Music
My Love = A.R. Rahman

I don't have any musical background that is why I am not capable of analysizing any one's musical abilities let alone A.R. Rahman. However I would like to share why I like Rahman's music.

Commercially Rahman is successful because projects he usually do are almost always difficult and different than usual formula movies and he simply knows how to incorporate music and songs in different difficult situations, whether he composes songs for Lagan , or Bombay or legend of Bhagat sing, kisna or Zubaida.

Even if you don't watch movie you can feel the atmosphere right there in his composition. By his composition he not only explains the time period but even you can guess the social elements of the movie.
For example right now I am listening "Kahna hi kia" from Bombay , in this composition he gave a touch of Qawalli in it, which most of the time represent muslim culture, which is ofcourse part of the main theme of Bombay   and same way if you listen "Dheemay Dheemay" from Zubaida you can just tell by listening to it that it must be picturized on some one from past not some one from present.
Thus I can say that his songs are never feel alieniated in the movie at the same time they are simply a treat for the ears. I will say that his compositions do compliment a movie but movie dosn't need to compliment his compositions. You dont have to watch movie to enjoy his compositions but definitly with his compositions you really enjoy that movie.
I personally never watch "Bombay" But still I love his music from it alot.

The other thing which I feel, is the excellent use of Human voices some times as a chorus or some times as a beat. I like the perfect blend of diffrent kind of music from west and east in his composition as well.

I am very fond of Golden period Music Directors whoes compositions were depended mostly on the melodies and the beauty of singer's voice. AR Rahman has revived that trend, ofcourse with lots of new technology you will find many things besides singers voice in his composition too but still I find that he rely on singer's voice alot.

Another interesting thing I noticed, in his some compositions, is the soothing Blanks or gaps during song , means it is not all the tim ,ding ding ding ding, in back ground instead even between beat you find a gap with no sound at all that is very soothing ( I don't know what it is called technically but I noticed it)

I guess I will never stop.............
Any way AR Rahman fortunately is still young and I am sure we are going to have great music for a long period of time.

I am sure after fifty years this period will be considered as Golden period as well because of him.

Huum ,i just wonder how similar are our tastes.
