Unique Love Stories on Small Screen is slowly gaining popularity

On one hand Small screen provides a variety of mills and boons romantic stories of young couples like Arnav-Khushi or Maan-Geet which the youth enjoys a lot and on other hand Small Screen recently has also been successfully experienting some unique love stories of mis-matched couples who might not be coming out of mills and boons stories but they have a magic of their own .

The trend recently was started by Ekta Kapoor's show on Sony TV Bade Achhe Lagte hai which is a unique love story of two matured and not so young couples Ram and Piya who discovers love after their marriage .The show went on to lift up the ratings of Sony channel and today is among the top 5 Trp shows in the chart .The show not only brought a new fresh change in television but also proved that a matured love story with substance can still work wonders at the TV box office .

After the success of Bade Achhe Lagte hai ,Sony TV went on to launch yet another unique love story of a much older man falling in love with a much younger girl in the show Kuch Toh Log Kahenge which is a remake of Pakistani hit soap Dhoop Kinare .The chemistry between Dr Ashutosh and Dr Nidhi has managed to grab quite a few eyeballs as viewers are slowly taking keen interest to see how this love story eventually develops between the couple with a huge age gap .

The experiment of unique lovestories is not just limited to matured love story between older couples but shows like Maryada on Star plus has also highlighted a controvertial love story between a Gay Couple and it did manage to get the ratings and attention of the viewers.

Recently even Colors show Phulwa is all set to show the marriage of a police officer and a dacoit for the first time on Indian TV and we are sure that this too is going to grab some eyeballs of our viewers in terms of ratings .

Star one's popular show Pyaar ki Ek kahaani which is inspired from the novel Twilight too is not far behind in unique love story list as it has managed to grab the eyeballs with a love story between a Vampire and a human .Even Imagine channel is not far behind in the race of unique love stories as its prime time show Baba Aiso Varr Dhundo is a love story between a normal young boy and a dwarf girl Bharti .The show has managed to get consistently good ratings for the channel .

With the changing trends in television ,we can surely say that our makers can start experimenting with more such fresh concepts and unique love stories as viewers today are ready to give it a chance .

i'm glad that the makers are now trying to change the trend...since these serials are refreshing from the typical saas bahu saga...guess the viewers are enjoying watching them:))

But I feel Mismatched couples are more out of Mills and Boon

Age gaps / Older / Status gaps

in bade achchhe lagte hain both protagonists are significantly older than the usual romantic leads on TV. it's interesting to watch the needs, desires, problems and perspectives of older people being depicted.
such stories may be quite common in the west but, as far as i know, this is the first hindi show to take up the theme.

oh...the unique love stories list is def long but the prob here is --the concept will be fresh but the scheming of characters, the unreal plans are all still the same ...like BALH has a step-mom, a scheming step-bro, a mama...am not sure if these kind of scheming characters are in real families...anyway, coming to BALH-- I see it for RaYA, what a couple, love them and esp. Ram's expressions sometimes are priceless...
