Shah Rukh...naam toh suna hoga
It is really hard to list Shah Rukh Khan's 10 best performances for me. So I'm just going to list out as many as I thought were worth a mention. Now I'm not say all his movies were super hits but however the movie being, I have always admired the man. After all I fell in love with the movies because of him.
I can't pinpoint what exactly it is about him that I like so much. I guess being born in the 80s I was just about old enough to watch and understand movies when he started his career. Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman was my first. Shah Rukh Khan got it just right. Playing a village bumpkin that turns into a successful business man. He made us laugh and cry as the struggling musician in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na. By the time Chamatkar came it was getting hard not like him. Am I the only person who like Chamatkar?
Then came his string of negative roles. First came Bazigar which also the started for me one of the most memorable onscreen jodis of Shah Rukh and Kajol. Then came K.. K.. K.. Kiran or should I say Darr. Even seeing him in Anjam as an obsessed killer was a good change from what I had known of him earlier.
When the country had just started falling in love with SRK, came what I think is the turning point of his career, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. It propelled him to hights unseen in any form of stardom. K.. K.. K.. Kiran became Sanorita asia bade bade deshon main asie choti choti baatain hote rahte hain. The SRK and Kajol chemistry went to another level and their love almost felt real. I must say I was heartbroken when my mother told me SRK was married and Kajol was getting to married to Ajay Devgan.
Then came a line of movie in which SRK was called Rahul. Yes Boss and Dil Toh Pagal I saw and for those few hours took joy in the fact that me and SRK share the same name. Just when we thought the whole Rahul phase was over Kuch Kuch Hota Hai happened and Rahul naam toh suna hoga became an over used phrase. I don't know if I was just the right age then or what but this is the only SRK movie I can relate to. Girls asking me 'Rahul juice, juice' gave me quite a high.
Come the 2000s and just like me, SRK has also grown up. By grown up I mean is doing more mature roles. Trying to push the level of perfection every time. It started off with Mohabbatein where he taught three young couples the meaning of love and went on to do movies like Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham, Devdas, Swades and just when you think he is down he bounces right back with what I think is one of his best performances as an actor, Chak De India. Playing the ex Indian hokey player (who is told to have betrayed the nation) takes the almost dead women's hockey team to win a gold.
Of late his character in My Name is Khan was endearing specially when he proposes to her to Kajol. All the hate in the world for the man can't stop love and the magic he creates on screen. Last but not least for Ra. One one of the biggest films ever made I would just want to quote a friend, "Anyone who cribs about Ra.One. Seriously, what were you expecting? Matrubhoomi? Omkara? The man promised kickass effects. He delivered. You thought Arjun Rampal was suddenly gonna turn into Naseerudin Shah? There are some things even SRK can't do." On a perting note all I want to say is okay you guys hate the player, don't hate his game!!
