Sneha, wonderful update, glad that Maan caught up with Geet at last, now maybe they can resolve their issues and I can understand why Geet is so hurt and angry, she has all the right to be so, but hope Maan can manao her and make it up to her.
Wish you Belated Diwali Greetings darling sorry for the delayed wishes 😊 Please convey my wishes to Sanjh too 😊
CHAPTER-26 (ABYSSES)
"well, the tears are starting to slow down now.. but the pain, however, remains constant"
(Random quote)

Maybe she heard him, or perhaps his shadow changed her light. Or maybe she simply sensed him. But Geet's head came up, and her eyes whipped to him. Emotions stormed through them, before they turned frosty brown in their depths.
Then as if his presence didn't matter in the least, Geet unwrapped her lunch and bit into the sandwich that she had bought for her lunch.
"Mr. Khurana, you r a long way from home. How are you?"
Maan looked at her, drinking in her sight, the swipe of her downcast lashes, the curve of her chin, the moment of her lips as she chewed----- it was a moment before her words registered________
"What?"
"What are you doing here Mr. Khurana?"
Why was she talking like this? Why was she not angry? Or even smiling---his wishful heart whispered ? Where was the bubbly girl that he knew?
Maan noticed the calm, almost serene way in which Geet continued eating her food, asking him the questions as if he was just a parting acquaintance.
Where was the hurt, anger, on seeing him? Where were the accusations?
Where was Geet?
"Geet--- I need to talk to you."
"Yes Mr. Khurana, tell me how can I help you?"
"Why are you talking like this?"
"Like what Mr. Khurana?"
"As if you don't know me---- as if we hadn't been----- and what is with this Mr. Khurana? You never used to call me Mr. Khurana."
"Iam sorry Mr. Khurana, but I really don't know you well. If you are referring to the time I spent working with you then, it was an enjoyable experience off course, and I got to learn a lot from you and your company, but then, this is my career, I do have to move on, so I can't just pull on to that short acquaintance of ours and be overtly friendly, can I? It won't be professional of me, I hope you understand."
Maan felt his heart curl up in his chest.
"Iam sorry Mr. Khurana, if you have something to talk about, you will have to do fast work about it as I have used up my lunch hour and it won't do for me to be late on my very first day at the office."
And so saying Geet dusted her hands and stood up.
It took a moment for Maan to understand that she was dead serious and that she was just about to walk away from there--------- away from him.
He shifted so that he was standing right in front of her.
Geet was holding herself by a fragile thread and didn't know how much longer she could hold on to this facade. She took a deep breath and looked straight at him.
"You are blocking my path Mr. Khurana."
"Iam sorry Geet."
"That's O.K. all you have to do is to shift and I will be on my way."
"No, Iam sorry Geet, not for this, but for---------."
"I really am not interested in drenching up the past Mr. Khurana. You will be doing yourself and me a big favour by not bringing up anything which will make it impossible for me even to talk to you. We are mature adults and can very well function in a civilized way, can't we? So, Please can you respect this wish of mine as a consideration for old times and not bring up anything that will tint the present? "
A low buzzing was filling up in Maan's ears, shock and pain rendered him immobile and Geet, didn't lift her eyes to see the pain and torture reflected in Maan's eyes. She took that opportunity to walk around him towards the gate and out of it.
Adi found MSK sitting on the very bench on which Geet had been sitting. He seemed to be curved out of stone. Adi didn't say anything but just sat at the far side of the bench and waited.
"What have I done Adi? She will never forgive me."
"No, Maan Sir, everything will be OK, just give her some time."
"You haven't heard what she said, how she said it."
"I have sir, excuse me for eavesdropping but, it seemed to me like she was trying very hard to sound impersonal. If Geet wouldn't have felt anything then she would have been normal, but our Geet just wasn't herself which leads me to believe that she was putting up a mask."
MSK rested his head on his palms.
"What do I do? How do I convince her, if she is not ready to even talk with me?" Maan murmured to himself.
"Give yourself some time Maan Sir, I am sure you will come up with something."
Maan turned his head and looked at Adi who was looking out at something in the distance with a smug smile on his face.
"And what would I do without you Adi? How do I repay you?"
"You already did Sir when you started calling me Adi, you called me Aditya for 9 years and then becoz of Geet you started calling me Adi. That's enough for me."
"Aaa---- But just for now, can we have some lunch Maan sir, I didn't have anything since yesterday's lunch time."
MSK nodded and stood up.
His heart seemed to have been replaced with something akin to lead and he knew nothing and no one could make it pulse again without Geet. He put his hand in his pocket and felt for the ring that he had taken to carrying with him at all times---------------- yes, Adi was right, he won't give up something as precious as her so easily. He will have to make amends for what he had done to the lady in question and she will have to be convinced that she was his and that he will make it up to her even if it took a complete lifetime to do so.
Maan didn't know but unconsciously his head lifted a notch and the battle light was back in his eyes. Adi looked at him out of the corner of his eyes and nodded to himself.

Geet made through the office, going blindly towards her cabin, giving vague responses to whoever spoke to her on her way. She entered her cabin and closed the door and stood resting her forehead against the cool wood. And finally gave in to the trembling that she had kept in check all through her encounter with Maan and even afterwards. For how long she stood thus she didn't know. Gradually she took deep lungfuls of air and realized that her cheeks were wet. She wiped them with the heel of her hand and then with brisk moments she went to sit back behind her desk.
She drank a glass of water and by sheer strength of her willpower she pulled herself together. Her nerves were steadier. Surely, she mused, the first meeting, the first exchange of words were the most difficult. She had seen him. She had spoken to him. She had survived. She had thought about this first encounter so many times after that party----- what he would say, how she would respond, but in none of those thoughts had she come close to imagine the torture it would be to keep her emotions in check.
To see him, breathe in the subtle fragrance of his aftershave, see the curve of his mouth, the winged arch of his brows---------- his deep set eyes----
'Stop it Geet! Just stop it---- !"
She dropped her head on her arms and rested her arms on top of the desk and fought to calm her heart which raced on painfully, heart brokenly---- wishfully.
No, this won't do, I will not be at his mercy ever again. I will not let him hurt me again.

It was 2 weeks later, Geet was grumbling as she came down the steps towards a waiting Ved who was taking her to a business dinner. She had protested loud and long but Ved was so mule headed that nothing got past his ears when he choose to ignore something and as a result here she was going to a business dinner without any wish to participate in any discussion or enjoy the company of the people they were to meet.
Ved's reason for insisting on taking her along with him as part of his team was to make her have an active participation in this new venture that he was putting his fingers into and also because he wanted Geet to get out of the house and mingle with the outside world besides going to the office.
In no time Geet was already leaving an impression of hers on not only the staff, which was second nature to her, but the two presentations of a rough idea of two interiors that she had chalked up for him had impressed one of his very old and favoured client.
But Ved wanted her to lose the lost look in her eyes that Geet seemed to carry with her always. She was all day surrounded with people at the office, she participated in discussions and interacted with everybody, but, nothing or nobody seemed to be able to touch her from the inside, as if her heart or her emotions were encrusted with ice and nothing he did could thaw it. Ved hated the man who had hurt her so deep that Geet now seemed to be a shadow of what she was.
___________________________________________________________
The meeting went very well. Ved had been interested for a very long time now to start a new wing in his company which would give his company a complete boost by not only doing the interior designing and landscaping, which he had made his name in, but would also design the buildings and enact them too. He had put out feelers in the business community but till date he hadn't had any success, then all of a sudden he had met his new partner. His new partner's company would see to the real estate and building part and he would oversee the landscaping and interior design, a very profitable venture. He had already met with the owner a few times now and was much impressed with his outlook. Today they finalized all the finer points of the deal and decided on the number of members from both teams who will be exclusively devoted to this new venture. Both his new partner and he had decided to start their first project with a boom and so they were going for a big Hospital project right in the middle of the city.
Geet was to head the design section from Ved's team and so he had insisted that she come to the dinner meeting. He had explained to Geet the project and the progress that has been made while driving towards 'The Park Hotel' and now after the meeting, Geet too was much impressed with the efficiency of the other company's team who had come completely prepared for all their questions. The owner hadn't come and Ved informed her that the man was a very known figure in his field.
Whenever Ved had told her about the man, her mind had always conjured up an image of Maan and just to dispel that Geet wanted to know the name of Ved's partner, but as Ved was about to tell her the name, they were interrupted and told that their dinner was ready and everybody started gathering up their spreadsheets and files to make space for their dinner to be served.
Inspite of herself Geet had to smile at Ved's attempts of making her laugh and as she had her soup, Ved took a table napkin and removed a drop of soup that had dribbled on her chin----------- this was how MSK saw them when he entered the restaurant of the hotel where he was staying. He stood in the doorway, a wave of pain and jealousy eating at him at the sight of them with their heads together.
He had seen her after 2 weeks and that too with some other man wiping a drop of soup from her lips. Everyday he fought to restrain himself from marching up to her doorstep to tell her, make her understand, to shake her or to just carry her to some far away place so that she would listen to him, and see for herself how sorry he was for not trusting her. His heart was a bottomless abysses of longing and pain for her.
Maan clenched his fist and his eyes for a second and then without another word to Adi, went back the way he had come in. he had never tasted jealousy before and the taste didn't sit well with him.

Ved's office was working on a tight schedule due to the launch party. Geet had been given too many things to supervise and little by little, inspite of herself, Geet was putting her mind to the things Ved had entrusted her with. It amused and touched her to realize that Ved was keeping her on her feet, with so much to do so that she won't keep to herself and because of that she tried to come out of the shell that she had retreated into.
Her heart mocked her whenever she tried to show off to Ved and his family that she was all right. How could she be when every colour, every incident, every thing small or big made her unwillingly remember something of Maan's. Her heart seemed to her to be a chasm, a abysses, having a never ending litany of memories that sprang up everywhere,
It was 2 weeks and 4 days that she had met him at the park.
2 weeks and 4 days of living in a hell of rioting emotions.
"Geet?----- Geet? Where have you gone to?" Ved clicked his fingers in front of her face.
"Huh! What? Now you are a slave driver, a girl can't even daydream without u interrupting?"
"Don't you want to go home now? Everything is ready, if we don't push off now, we will be late for our own party, we r the host Yaar."
"Right, fine lets go."

Geet had made herself shop, trying to prove to herself that she could enjoy herself if she wanted. She had bought for herself an off white saree. The saree in itself was a simple one, and she didn't add too many accessories to it and just went with some dangling earrings and white bangles to offset the assemble. Her hair had grown and it was now reaching almost to her waist and as she brushed it she decided to go and cut it the next time she took some time off for herself.
When Ved came to get her, he gave a wolf whistle.
"Someone is dressed to kill today."
"Don't be so lame, but if that was a straight compliment, then Thank U."
________________________________________________________
The party was in full swing but Geet was yet to meet the co partner of Ved. The reporters were getting impatient and their PR manager was pacifying them. Geet thought it very rude of the person not to come on time, as it was as much his party as it was theirs.
As she took another circuit around the room, she stopped and stared at Adi who was smiling and coming towards her. Even as she frowned, her hand was raised in a greeting, as he walked towards her with a huge smile.
"Adi Sir? How---- you--- how come, here?"
"Hai Geet, first tell me how are you? It's so good to see you after so many days, you know I tried to contact you but you never responded."
A horrible sinking sensation was creeping over Geet and she could just stare at Adi, without saying a single word. When she had told Ved whatever had happened in Delhi, she had been adamant not to tell him the name and no tricks of his had been able to pry it out of her yet.
It was then that she heard Ved say,
"There he is ------," and then, " What took you so long?"
Geet turned towards the entrance and realised that she couldn't breath--------
The doorway was littered with all the party paraphernalia of ribbons, flowers and ballons, complimenting their theme for the new company founded------- and in the muted light, the new comer stood there, like a king surveying his turf.
Many people squinted to see his face as he stood there in the half- light, but Geet didn't have any problem recognizing the man who dominated almost all her conscious and subconscious thoughts.
" Maan--------"
The name slipped past her lips.
