M usic reality shows on the telly are beginning to cast their net wider. They are stepping away from the age when most contestants were from metropolises and only a handful picked from smaller towns like Meerut and Kolhapur. And now, it is the other way round. Take for instance, Salman Ali of Mewat.
He is one of the contestants in the ongoing Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs , a popular music reality show on Zee TV, now on for many seasons. Salman hails from one of the most impoverished areas of the country; part of his village has no access to drinking water supply or electricity.
His village does not have a music school either. Salman, who comes from a family of singers, got his first music lesson at home.
For this particular show, Salman was alerted by his friend Manoj Sharma, who stays in Delhi. Since he was already taking music lessons from Master Salim in Jalandhar, Salman did not have to think twice before giving his name for the show. And now, he is in the show's top 10 list and is being looked as a hot contender for this season's title. And if he does make it to the final, Salman will exceed his parents' dream of just being seen on television.
He performed Sajda in the Delhi auditions and impressed the judges.
