Hyderabad: If it is shaandar music it's got to be Shaan. Think of any leading track in the last three years, and it probably has Shaan's voice. This half of the famed brother-sister duo who shot to fame after Main pehnoon denim jeans and Lovelogy became a rage with youngsters. There was more to come in his second album Tanha dil. "When Tanha dil happened, I was very confident of all the tracks. And luckily all my tracks were well appreciated. Soon after this album, I bagged a lot of offers for playback singing," says Shaan.
From an aspiring desktop publisher to a pop singer, Shaan surely has come a long way.
He is currently the host of the popular show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV that has become a breeding ground for young talent. At the moment Shaan has his hands full with his shooting schedule for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and says he is glad to be so busy. "It keeps me occupied most of the time and it's a great pleasure to see budding artistes climb the ladder of success," says Shaan.
The anchor and singer is very impressed with the young Hema Chandra from Hyderabad who has become a hot favourite with the entire crew. "I like the guy. Hema is smart, sings well and is talented. Considering that he is from the South, his pronunciation is quite remarkable too," says Shaan. He adds, "If one is talented, you don't have to struggle that hard to prove your talent these days. It was different for us. We started with jingles and then met industry biggies to get a contract. Now it is simpler. You have a stage and all you need to do is perform well and walk away with fame."
Asked whether he would consider doing tracks for Telugu films, Shaan says, "I will need to practise but I can do it. Songs from Telugu movies are strong on beats. They have a totally different style." Shaan is excited about his current work on the John Lennon compilation album, Love, peace and hope. A Lennon fan, Shaan says it is a dream come true to sing the track Give peace a chance, along with various artistes from Asia, including Pakistani band Junoon. Says Shaan, "We hope this song and its message will inspire people everywhere. It is an honour to be a part of this album."
